Our goal is to lead millions of people to Jesus. Let me share a “One in a Million” testimony with you. On the second night of the crusade in Luchenza, Malawi, I preached on “The Father of Hugs and Kisses,” a message about the Prodigal Son who came home to his father.
In the parable from Luke 15, the father (representing God the Father) does not condemn his wayward son or lecture him; instead the father greets him with hugs and kisses. I told the crowd, “Even if you are one thousand steps away from God, it is only one step back.”
When I gave the altar call, a fifty-year-old man named Nicksun E**** from the village of Mphwere ran forward to the front of the stage. Just like the son in the story, he fell to his knees and cried out with tears of repentance.
For fifteen minutes, he laid on the ground and wept.
I saw pastors praying for him so I went over and laid my hand on his shoulder. I smelled alcohol on his breath.
Nicksun told me, “I used to be close to God, but for many years I have been living far away from Him. Tonight I have decided to come home.”
He had a smile on his face as he explained his decision to rededicate his life to God.
A counselor from a local church helped him fill out a decision card so the church can help him grow in his newly rediscovered faith.
This story is One in a Million! The goal of King Ministries is to lead one million people to Jesus every year. We can not accomplish this goal without your help. Would you give a monthly gift to help us rescue people from hell? Even a gift of $1 a month would be a huge help.
Over the course of our twenty years of ministry, we have found it takes an average cost of $1 for every person we have lead to Jesus. In order to do large evangelistic outreaches, we need to rent a platform, sound system, and advertise the event. Plus we give away thousands of free books and Bibles to help disciple the new believers.
The Bible says that all of heaven rejoices when one sinner gets saved, so for only $1 a month, you can be responsible for starting a party in heaven every single month. Click here to become a monthly partner with us today.

Evangelism Podcast Host (00:19):
Jesus said, go into all the world and preach the gospel. Everyone who calls on the name of The Lord shall be saved. Welcome to the evangelism podcast with Dr. Daniel King, where Daniel interviews, full-time evangelists, pastors, missionaries, and normal everyday Christians to discover how they share their faith, their powerful testimonies, and amazing stories that will inspire you to reach people with the good news. And now here’s your host, missionary and evangelist. Daniel.
Evangelism Coach Daniel King (00:55):
Welcome to the evangelism podcast on Daniel King. And I’m excited about telling people about Jesus today. We have very special guests who have an innovative way for reaching children, brother Jocko, and Karen Hugo. Thank you for being with me today. Thank you, sir. So tell me about how you’re reaching children for Jesus.
Jako Hugo (01:19):
Wow. Where do I start? So about 14 years ago, we started vesting schools in Africa and we realized how open the schools are. I went to a crusade and I told her to visit some schools up the road. And maybe you can explain that better. And I came back six weeks later and she was at many schools and we were surprised how open the schools are to the gospel of Jesus Christ. And so we found various ways to actually access the schools. Initially we visited three schools a day and then we found that it’s actually very easy. So eventually we ended up visiting seven schools a day in our OB, and we could not believe how easy it is and I’ll open the schools are to the gospel. And so we just went from school to school week in, week out. And yeah, that is it. I don’t know what else you wanted me to say.
Evangelism Coach Daniel King (02:09):
And so now how many schools have you visited over the past the years that you’ve been doing this?
Jako Hugo (02:18):
I believe it’s not just short of 8,000, definitely. Well, over 7,000, we kind of stopped counting about two years ago when we started helping CFN with schools. But while I was 7,000 schools and we literally see millions of children need coming into the kingdom of God. So we’re very accurate that
Evangelism Coach Daniel King (02:30):
Let’s talk about why it’s so important to reach the children. Sometimes people think we’re going to reach the adults and the only the salvation that they really count as the adults, they don’t count all the little children that are running around. But why do you think it’s important to reach children with a gospel
Jako Hugo (02:47):
First? I think that’s really where the market is. Like the, you know, they, we talk about the 10 40 window they’ve lived when it comes to salvation. They talk about the four 14. We know is really between the age of four and 14, 70% of the people in the world gives a life to Jesus. So that’s really where we should be aiming our crusades. And so often I believe it’s important when a child, of course, it’s easier for the child to make a decision for Jesus Christ because they believe just easier child childlike, faith. The Bible talks about it so powerful. And so, but if we can get the child to Jesus at a younger age, we can actually bend that tree and they can follow God and become and live a much better life glorifying to him. Then when maybe when you want to catch them later and try to turn the tree when it’s stronger. So I believe the sooner you get the child to fall in love with Jesus and know Jesus and walk and talk with Jesus, you could change his entire life the way he look at himself, the way he lives.
Evangelism Coach Daniel King (03:40):
And I’ve been watching how you’ve been training these evangelism bootcamp students here at Christ for all nations, taking them into these African nations and taking them from school to school and the same results that you’ve seen. You’ve been seeing these young students have as they go into the schools. Tell me what D why do you think it’s so important for these students to have this experience of, of sharing the gospel with each other?
Jako Hugo (04:11):
You know, a number of years ago, we were starting to pray that people, more people will come to come and share the gospel, the children, because it’s really, it is so, so easy and schools are so, so open. And so God really opened the door through CFM, and I believe the harvest is plentiful. And the more harvest is we can send out to the others the better, because I don’t think we can read them all. It’s just because every five, six years the school is completely new. And, and so the more people we can train up who can train more people who can multiply themselves. I think the chance of reaching the office in Africa and the world becomes better and bigger.
Karin Hugo (04:44):
And this is also something that’s easy to do for anybody that starts out a ministry. If you start in schools, it’s not expensive, it is easy, doable with somebody somebody that you partner up with. And also, if this is maybe a platform where you can start, you streamline your messages, you get confidence and you train yourself on how to do this well to go and take it at a higher level.
Evangelism Coach Daniel King (05:12):
So let’s pretend that we are visiting a school right now, and you’re standing in front of the children. What do you say to lead them down the pathway to salvation kind of pretend like right here, we have a bunch of kids and you are ministering to them. What do you say?
Jako Hugo (05:30):
Okay. So maybe I just give you a bit of an outline. We introduce ourselves it’s always good to show honor to the teacher and the teachers that’s actually giving you the opportunity. Then we open up the prayer and Mitel to spread, to come to open up their hearts and their minds that they fully understand what God wants to say. And then we tell the story. There are many children’s stories. We connect scripture to the story, maybe a number of scriptures that you feel God has placed on your heart, because that’s really opening up them. And I’ll just print this there. And we add an attribute, the story, and then we listed the name of Jesus over and over and over. And as we do that dollar spread com and then we give them opportunity to respond. And it’s amazing other response. And then we pray a basic prayer of salvation, really basic, the message must be basic and simple for them to understand.
Jako Hugo (06:14):
And then we explain salvation and then we give them a chance. And then we also share a short scripture on the holy spirit and give them chance to receive the holy spirit. Now I can, you want me to do a spin, a story?
Evangelism Coach Daniel King (06:25):
Give me a story.
Jako Hugo (06:26):
Okay. One day long, long ago in a country, far, far away, there was a young man that lived with his family. It’s so happened that his country came into war. The father said to the older brothers, they should go and fight in the war. After sometime. Now we say to the younger brother that remained behind you should take some food to your older brothers. They must be hungry. Now, today, back there, big Baca food, lots of rice meat, banana. The boy walked for a long time. When he got to his brothers, they just sitting around like us.
Jako Hugo (07:01):
He said, brothers, why are you sitting? Why are you not liking the enemy? Oh little brother. We have a big problem. The enemies that are be giant, nobody wants to fight the giant. They say, if we defeat the giant, we can take the land. But his day defeat our soldier. They was taking our land. Nobody wants to fight. But this young man that brought the food, he felt like God is with him. He told his brothers, the brothers told the king. The king said, now, if this young man feels like God is with him, he can fight the giant. The boy went, he picked up five rocks. You walked up to the giant, the giant looked down and said, Hey, you’re a little boy. What are you doing here? Now? You’re just no body. The young man said to the giant, Mr. Giant, today, I will defeat you because the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob is with me.
Jako Hugo (07:55):
The giant is the laughing. He took one rock, put it inside Eastern shot. He went sure Erie needs the rock. The rock flew, hit the giant in front of his head. The giant went down and the boy killed that giant. That day love his own squat. Now, what is the name of the giant Goliath and the name of the boy, David [inaudible] the children know the names of the day, you know? And it’s very, they recognized I’ve not been to one school where they didn’t recognize story. The great thing here is now you’ve told an actual Rideau in a story that they solved. Now, they know they got you. And you know, you go then, and from there to get to salvation, it doesn’t take long because how do you take that into salvation? So I would, for instance, say, you know, the same way that God helped David to the fecal life, he wants to help you too.
Jako Hugo (08:43):
But why do you call it up? David, David and God put close friends. You walked and talk of God all the time. So how do you and I become close friends of God. The Bible says for us to start this rich relationship with God, we need to be born again to be saved by God to go to heaven. So how do we get born? Again? The Bible says there are two things we need to do. Number one, you need to believe in Jesus Christ, that Jesus, the son of God, he died on the cross for you and me, that Jesus rose from the gate, from the dead, that Jesus is alive today. And he wants to live in your heart. You ask, if you believe that all hands go up, Sidney, the Bible says you need to repent of your sin. What does that mean?
Jako Hugo (09:19):
You need to ask God to forgive you are the things that you’ve done that was wrong. Like lying to the teacher or cheating in an exam or stealing or minimal, or maybe not forgiving your brother, your sister, and then forgiveness. You can go much deeper if you want to, if you have the time. But you know, the Bible says that Jesus is knocking on the door of your heart, right? You’re right now, he wants to forgive you. She wants to give you a brand new start today and hope for the future. Are you ready to open the door of your heart to Jesus?
Jako Hugo (09:48):
Secondly, the Bible says that everyone say everyone everywhere or calls upon the name of Jesus shall be saved. Are you ready to call upon the name of Jesus? Let’s all close our eyes. And then you get him down to respond. And then you do like a basic, simple prayer. I like to pray a basic, simple Wonka prayer. And you must show you prayed in short phrases. So it’s easy for them to repeat. Yeah. And so we have many different stories that we used, and it’s really amazing how the children respond. But I do like David and Goliath, just because it’s not on your story, also a real, and you really pull them in and
Evangelism Coach Daniel King (10:19):
They, as they figure it out, then they start to think, oh, I know what to do.
Jako Hugo (10:24):
Absolutely. Yeah. And it’s also easy to keep their attention because all the time they’re thinking, is it, or is it not this? What is he talking about? So you’re keeping their attention all the time, because just not a story where they wondering and off all the time, they’re starting to realize why you’re talking about,
Evangelism Coach Daniel King (10:36):
Talk about why you use stories to capture attention. I think sometimes people go in and just immediately jump into the gospel message and it becomes just straight preaching where they’re shaking their finger at people. And then it’s very easy to lose children. But why are stories so effective in capturing?
Jako Hugo (10:56):
I think you actually pull the children. I, you, this is saying you first started when the children yourself, and then went up to Jesus. You’ll put your, pull them in. But they remember the stories, you know, we’ve seen the children years later when we see them, they don’t remember our names, which retaliate. I like, they will remember sometimes the song that we played them one by Jesus. You’re the only one I can look for. And I remember the story, but it’s important to me also to remember the principle behind the story. Yeah. But it’s amazing how they remember the story. And I remember that story and I wanted to connect that story to the day of salvation. So that’s the day I said yes to Jesus is when I heard that story about Devin Goliath and the same way they got up there with these now helping me.
Karin Hugo (11:31):
I think it’s also to explain in their everyday life, the Bible to make it a life, how Jesus wants to be their friend, how Jesus can help them, how Jesus can save them. But how is it applicable to the daily life? Like he can be your friend. He can help you to, to slay a giant like, like David slayed, Goliath, but you can slave giant of stealing and lying and cheating because God will help you. So it just make the biblical application into a practical everyday application. Yeah.
Jako Hugo (12:09):
And in high schools, of course we have different stories. Again, I like to tell the room, the 10 rooms, for instance, in high schools, and you can lift up many others and like pornography and all these things that they could struggle with. So it just depends different schools will do different things, but it’s amazing how God is moving. You often see the children crying, you see teachers crying, you see teachers responding is really, really
Evangelism Coach Daniel King (12:29):
Amazing. And then you also pray for them to be filled with the Holy Spirit.
Jako Hugo (12:31):
Yes. So we do basic scriptures about the spread, receiving the power in schools. We, it’s not the good thing to maybe use the word baptism because we’ve had this way. They say, you know, don’t come and baptize my children into your faith. But we talk about the power of God. We ensure we can disbelief.
Evangelism Coach Daniel King (12:47):
Otherwise spirit wants to live with you. Exactly. Actually
Jako Hugo (12:50):
Wants to comfort you. And yeah.
Karin Hugo (12:53):
Yeah. I usually explain to them, you know, the choice that you’ve just made is not an choice that might be easy to live out every day, but the choice is however, for the rest of your life and we cannot do it alone. And so therefore Jesus knew this. So he promised to save us the holy spirit to come and to help us to give us the power, to overcome, to give us a power, to be witnessing, to be both. And therefore, when you have the holy spirit, you can do all of this.
Evangelism Coach Daniel King (13:21):
Wow. That’s so beautiful. And I think it’s so amazing that you’ve visited almost 8,000 schools. Praise God, praise ministered to over 4 million children. You know, how many ministers never in their lives minister to that, God’s opened the door for you. And you’ve seen so many children give their lives to Jesus. What does that feel like when you, you pray a prayer of salvation with so many children repeat that?
Jako Hugo (13:51):
That is amazing. And so I make the mistake. Sometimes I open my eyes myself and I look at the two and I look how sincere I serious. They are. That really touched my heart. In fact, I think the same happened with these adventures that we train now. They also opened their eyes in the middle of the prayer. And that’s really, when it catch it, catch your heart that you see are serious. They are how seriously they pray, how would they believe is really amazing, but this is highly addictive. I want to encourage you if you do this once, it will be hard not to do it again and again and again and again. Yeah, it is amazing. The children can crawl into a heart faster than I can explain is really amazing. Very highly addictive.
Evangelism Coach Daniel King (14:31):
Amen. Well, I love what you do. And I’m so excited about the harvest of souls that God has given you. Thank you so much for being on the evangelism podcast. And I pray that your example will inspire many thousands more to go into schools around the world, to lead the children to Jesus. Jesus said, let the little children come up to me and you are fulfilling that scripture and you are going and giving the children an opportunity to come to Jesus. And it’s so beautiful.
Jako Hugo (15:02):
Thank you so much. We are under that. You ask us to be part of this. Thank you. Thank you, sir. Thank you.

Lloyd & Marie Tsuruda have a passion for children’s evangelism. They have traveled to over seventy nations in their quest to reach children for Jesus and to train children’s leaders. They believe that the 4/14 Window (children between the ages of 4 and 14) is the most neglected mission field in the world.
Statistics on the Children’s Mission Field:
Problem: (statistics)
Today, there are more than 2.2 billion children on Earth. Nearly two billion of these live in a developing country. (https://www.humanium.org/en/children-world/)
National Association of Evangelicals discovered from one of their surveys that 63% of Christians accepted Christ as their Lord and Savior between the ages of 4 and 14-years-old. Other surveys say as high as 80%. (https://www.mapglobal.org/blog/2018/4/15/what-is-the-4-14-window)
“The Great Commission applies to children as well as to adults. Children, more than any other people group, are receptive to the gospel. Nearly half of the population of every country within the 10/40 Window is also in the 4/14 Window. Where the churches are growing, most of the new converts are under the age of 18. Children are both objectives of, and resources for, Mission in the non-Western world.” (https://www.lausanne.org/about/blog/children-and-the-gospel)
The 4/14 Window refers to the demographic group ages 4 to 14, which is the most open and receptive group to spiritual and developmental input. God is calling us to a new missional focus: the 4/14 Window, the golden age of opportunity to transform the world. God is also calling us to radically change the way we view children and to respond to their strategic importance and rightful place in His kingdom. This often-ignored and suffering people group can be transformed into a precious window of opportunity. The 4/14 Window Movement is a Global Mission Movement focusing on Reaching, Rescuing, Rooting, and Releasing children and youth (0-18 years old) to reach their full transformational impact in their family, community, and nation. The Devil’s target on children: VULNERABLE:
Sex Trafficking
Child Abusers/Domestic Violence
Child Labor Slavery
Runaways
Orphans
Poverty: Lack of access to food, clean water, clothes, education, and the GOSPEL
Gangs, drugs, criminals
Evil Government Regimes brainwashing
Only 1% of missions money goes to the unreached, yet 86% of the unreached live in the 10/40 window. 87% of missionaries work in the portion of the globe with churched populations. The average Western missionary spends only 3% of his time involved in direct evangelism. The average American Christian gives only 1 penny a day to global missions. Welcome to the evangelism podcast. I’m Daniel King, and I’m excited about telling people about Jesus today. We have very special guests with us, Mr. Lloyd and Marie through to sir Ruda. And they are children’s ministers. Children’s evangelists and love telling children about Jesus. Thank you for being on the evangelism podcast. Thank you. It’s
Lloyd Tsuruda (01:20):
Great to be here With you. So tell me a little bit about yourselves and how you got started doing children’s ministry.
Marie Tsuruda (01:29):
Well, I’d have to go back to when I was a child, because as a child, I knew that God was calling me to missions, but my children’s pastor gave me an opportunity to minister, to kids. And then when I got into the youth ministry, my youth pastor gave me an opportunity to be the children’s intern. And so just getting started with backyard Bible clubs, with teaching children’s church, as a teenager with going on mission trips as a teenager, doing a children’s television program for kids as a, as a teenager myself. So I encourage anybody go ahead and let those kids let those teenagers be a part of the children’s ministry, because God wants to use this generation to reach themselves.
Evangelism Coach Daniel King (02:05):
And you have traveled to many nations around the world. Where are some of the places that you’ve been,
Marie Tsuruda (02:12):
We’ve been in 79 nations, every continent. So haven’t hit a Santa Claus yet on the north pole, but we’re working on that one for later. So a lot of variety, a lot of different people around the world, but our focus is on the children’s ministry orphans the unreached
Evangelism Coach Daniel King (02:28):
And I saw on your website, you’ve now reached over a million children for Jesus, 79 different nations. What a tremendous blessing that is. And you really believe in reaching this four to 14 window. A lot of people have heard of the 10 40 window, which is the area in the world that has the most unreached people groups. But talk to me about this four to 14 window and why it’s so important to reach people in that window. Well,
Lloyd Tsuruda (02:56):
I think it’s so important because you know, there’s a lot places that that are watched by the government and police, but you know, kids in that four 14 window can go everywhere and share the gospel sort of like in stealth mode, they’re not watching them. And you know what for example, in America, I’ll just say this, I can approach children because at the park or anything like that, they’d say, well, there’s an old man here and he’s trying to, who is he? Why is he talking to my kid? But you know, kids, once they’re taught how to share the gospel, they can share with all of them. And, and like Maria said we’ve always said that we can reach a generation and we need to, but it’s time. The Lord is saying that we teach a generation to reach itself.
Evangelism Coach Daniel King (03:42):
And so the four to 14 window is this age group, between the ages of four to the age of 14, I was looking at your website. You’ve got some really interesting statistics. There is it. Let me read one of these to you. And then you guys can comment on it. Today there’s more than 2.2 billion children on earth, nearly 2 billion of these live in a developing nation. So talk to me about that. Why is it important to reach these kids?
Marie Tsuruda (04:09):
These kids are the ones that Jesus said, let the little children come to me, 85% of people who are going to be born again. Usually do so before the age of 15. So if we’re going to reach children are the, that low-hanging fruit and we can influence a whole family will begin to come to church if we can get the children to be interested. So it’s so vital to us that we reach them while they’re their hardest Tinder. And so, especially in those developing countries where there’s so much need, they need food, they need water, they need clothes. But the number one thing they need is the gospel. And so many times we go into churches or orphanages or schools that are supposedly Christian, but they’ve never presented the gospel. They’ve never led those children to Christ, which is also true in churches right here in America. So that’s, our passion is sharing the gospel with kids all over the,
Evangelism Coach Daniel King (04:54):
And you often do children’s crusades. So paint a picture for me. Imagine that you’re in Africa and you’re, you’re doing a children’s crusade. What’s that going to look like?
Marie Tsuruda (05:06):
Well we met doing a children’s ministry for inner city kids in America. And so we take some of those same kind of high energy things with clowns and puppets and drama and
Evangelism Coach Daniel King (05:18):
Who dresses up at because of the clown. Do you dress up like a clown or you you’re the clown?
Marie Tsuruda (05:21):
We have three kids. They have now become the clowns. So we have a built-in drama team. They’re now a growing up. So we might have to start doing clowns again.
Lloyd Tsuruda (05:30):
You know what, having such a large group of kids, and they’re so easy just to preach a simple story or a gospel and watching hundreds and thousands of to receive Christ just in a matter of a few minutes. And not only that, but having the holy ghost fall on them and, and you know, them speaking in tongues and having God’s presence there and the power of God and the miracles and the healings and things like that. That’s what Jesus wants. He wants to, for him to be real to them.
Marie Tsuruda (06:07):
I was just going to add at the end of that, we always are teaching them to lay hands on the sick and teaching them to lead their families, to Christ, to lead their neighbors or school mates to Jesus as well, because it doesn’t just start with them. It’s a full circle that we believe in there.
Evangelism Coach Daniel King (06:20):
Yeah. I actually got started in ministry ministering to children. I would dress up as a clown. My parents were missionaries to Mexico and we found that clowns were a great way to attract kids to come to the church. And to this day, I still love doing children’s ministry. So I’m an evangelist. I preached a big crowds of people, but sometimes if it’s children, I’ll still dress up as a client. In fact, this past Sunday I was in Malawi and I was invited to preach Sunday morning at St. Michael’s and all the angels Presbyterian churches, the first church planted in Malawi. And they’re very formal. Everyone in attendance was in a three-piece suit, wearing a suit and tie. You know, I dressed up with a suit and tie in order to preach to them. And we had some of these elite from society that gave their lives to Jesus.
Evangelism Coach Daniel King (07:10):
And then Sunday afternoon, we had a children’s festival and I dressed up like a clown and put on a funny nose and a bow tie. And we did juggling for the kids at the children’s festival. So morning suit and tie afternoon clown suit and funny wig. But Paul says you become all things to all people so that some might be saved. And so we are fishers of men and you use what attracts people, so that if you’re trying to reach children, you have to use bait that will attract them. And if it takes a funny looking hair, funny looking wig, in order to attract kids, then go for it in order to preach the gospel to them.
Marie Tsuruda (07:53):
I so agree with that. And you know, we’ve, we’ve talked about that. There is the component of entertainment, but then there’s the component of education that we’ve done in, in Sunday schools and a great way of teaching the Bible stories to kids. And we’ve had lights and sounds and puppets and drama, but it comes down to this and encounter with the holy spirit. These kids need the gospel translated into their language. And I don’t just mean the language that they speak, but I mean, the language of fun, the language of encounter with the holy spirit, in a way they can understand taking the gospel instead of big words and making it into words they can understand. And then when they walk away, they know they have encountered Jesus. There’s just a presence of God. If I can just tell you one story about that.
Marie Tsuruda (08:33):
We were in an orphanage in a a closed country in Asia and these children were actually children of the martyrs. Their parents had been killed for sharing the gospel. And so there’s a hundred or so of them at this camp that we were doing for the kids that week. And so I love doing, you know, all of the exciting things that we just talked about, but then there was a time where we just had prayer. We just had the kids, they were soaking in the presence. God seeing visions, hearing words from the Lord three or four hours at a time, listening to the voice of God. And then we went out from that place, which I don’t know how many of your kids are in that presence, but that’s what they need. That’s what they need at home. That’s what they need in church anyway.
Marie Tsuruda (09:08):
But these kids went out to witness. And when they went out with us in the streets, again, it’s illegal. They know their parents have died for it, but they are bold and they do not have any fear. So I just, after having trained them, how to minister, to people stood back and listened to my interpreter, save what was going on. This one little boy was about eight years old, nine years old. And he began to have a word of knowledge for this lady that we knocked on her door. And he said, you have a tumor in your stomach. And I looked at my translator, like, I hope he’s accurate. You know, and sure enough, she said, I do. He laid his hands upon her, the tumor instantly disappeared. And when that happened, he began to share the gospel with her. She got born again. She got filled with the holy spirit, began speaking in tongues. The woman is, is telling her testimony that she has had a husband that was a believer for years, but she had never believed in 40 years. He tried to get her to convert to Christianity. But in this moment she said, I see that Jesus is the real one. And so now their whole family is part of that church. That, that orphanage is a part of. And it’s just an amazing testimony. When you start seeing kids that will share the gospel in their cities and seeing the transformation of activating kids into the ministry.
Evangelism Coach Daniel King (10:14):
Amen. Now you were just sharing with me right before the podcast about why Jesus hasn’t come back yet. Can you explain to me why a God revealed to you? W w the timing of Jesus coming back? Okay.
Lloyd Tsuruda (10:33):
So I was a little exasperated three years ago, and I asked the Lord a simple question. I said, why haven’t you returned? And he said, James, five, seven. And I was amazed because he answered me right away. And I thought, okay I’ve heard that scripture. So what does that mean?
Evangelism Coach Daniel King (10:51):
So tell me what the scripture says. It says
Lloyd Tsuruda (10:54):
The husbandman waited for the precious fruit of the earth waiting for the early in the latter rain. So I said, okay, well, what’s special about that. I’ve heard it. And he said, who do you think the precious fruit are? And the Lord said to me, the precious fruit, our children, and then the question came, do you think that the Lord could return and leave the children behind for the rapture? And I said, no Lord. And he said, reach the children.
Evangelism Coach Daniel King (11:23):
What a tremendous reminder to us that it’s so important to, to reach children for Jesus. What encouragement would you give to people who are looking for a ministry? They want to be involved in evangelism, encourage them to, to start looking at ministering to the children and what a fruitful mission field that is. Yeah.
Lloyd Tsuruda (11:45):
I want to take that one. So, you know, I would say I’m a business person and I would present a case to someone I’d okay. There’s a, B and C. If, if we’re a business and we want to get as many people converted as possible. If a, if a, if an a, you get 85% of the people saved. If B you get 10% and a five and a C is 5%, which group are you going to go for? I’d say a, because 85% of people get saved there. And you know what age group that is four to 14. So why, why do we skip that group when we can totally change the complexion of any country by getting the children’s?
Marie Tsuruda (12:29):
Yeah. I’ll tell you two quick stories on that. When even last Friday night right here in Orlando, I think it was actually, maybe a couple of Friday nights ago. We went out with another little girl. She was witnessing with our team and she let 18 people to Jesus on the streets on a Friday night. That’s the little girl, a team of a whole bunch of evangelists probably led that many to Jesus themselves. And so children are effective evangelists. And other story, when we were in another country, our son was a little boy, and he was witnessing over to some kids in a playground with a little visual aid that we use called an Avanza cube. And he had his translator telling the gospel story. Meanwhile, I was over on the street corner and somebody was getting healed from being paralyzed. And of course, when that happens, I do an altar call.
Marie Tsuruda (13:11):
Doesn’t matter if it’s against the law. Well, of course I was getting in trouble. The police came over to me. Why are you gathering a crowd? I was about to go to jail. Meanwhile, our son was leading just as many people over there on the playground to Jesus, totally ignored. And so I’m telling you activating kids into the ministry, getting involved, getting your kids involved in the ministry is vital. And so why serve in children’s ministry? Because that’s where evangelism can be birthed and grown. Because if you don’t get them started young, then they’re going to be pew sitters for the rest of their lives.
Evangelism Coach Daniel King (13:42):
Yeah, I believe it’s better to prepare than it is to repair. It’s better to go fishing for your son today than to go F go fishing with your son today, then go fishing for him tomorrow. It’s way easier to shape a, a sapling that has just been planted. Then a big growing tree. You know, it takes a miracle to, to shape it, a tree that that’s already big and growing. I mean, if you can imagine trying to, to bend a branch and make it straight, but if you take a little sapling and drive a stake into the ground next to it, you can make that sapling grow up straight and tall in the stake that we drive in next to our children, to help them grow up straight is the word of God. And so the more that we can do to reach children, I think the more we can build the kingdom of God.
Lloyd Tsuruda (14:41):
Amen.
Evangelism Coach Daniel King (14:42):
Well, thank you so much for being on the evangelism podcast. It’s really wonderful to get to know you. And I love what you’re doing to reach the children of the world. And we
Lloyd Tsuruda (14:51):

India has 1.2 billion people, many who have never heard about Jesus. How can we reach them with the gospel? Deepak was born in India and God has given him a passion for reaching his Homeland for Jesus.
Evangelism Podcast Host (00:18):
Well, Jesus said go into all the world and preach the gospel. Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord. Welcome to the evangelism podcast with Dr. Daniel King we’re Daniel interviews, full-time evangelists, pastors, missionaries, and normal everyday Christians to discover how they share their faith, their powerful testimonies and amazing stories that will inspire you to reach people with the good news. And now here’s your host, missionary and evangelist Daniel King.
Evangelism Coach Daniel King (00:54):
Welcome to the evangelism podcast. I’m Daniel King. Today. I have a very special guest with me, Deepak Holkar. And you are from the nation of India?
Deepak Holkar (01:04):
Yes. I’m originally from the nation of India. Call a state called Maharastra from a Sangha district. Yeah.
Evangelism Coach Daniel King (01:11):
And so tell me, how did your family become believers? Well,
Deepak Holkar (01:16):
I heard a story like, you know, a hundred years ago, that was a small missionary from United States, from a small church of 30 to 40 people from Pennsylvania. He came to India, he was a medical doctor, a surgeon to duke, a step of faith. And they sent him to reach the unreached people. The people who are suffering from leprosy, from the tuberculosis, those who are not able to reach. So he came and he shared the love of Jesus Christ with them. And my grandfather was impressed. Like the people, our own people are not able to reach these lepers of people. They used to call untouchable, who is this man? And what kind of love he has. And he found out it’s the love of Jesus Christ. So my grandfather was impressed and he gave his life to Jesus Christ. So that’s how our family came to know Jesus Christ. From that one person who shared the love of Jesus Christ.
Evangelism Coach Daniel King (02:08):
Let’s talk about India. 1.2 billion people. Many of them do not know Jesus. There’s many Muslims, many Hindus and people of other faiths in India. What do you think we need to do in order to reach India for Jesus?
Deepak Holkar (02:27):
I really believe if India has a hope. It’s the gospel of Jesus Christ, simple gospel of Jesus Christ with the power of the holy spirit. If India has to be saved, it is the only through Jesus Christ.
Evangelism Coach Daniel King (02:40):
And how can we as a church, reach people in India.
Deepak Holkar (02:44):
That is right now, I believe the doors are closed, but I believe very soon the doors are going to get open and we have no time to worst. As soon as the door gets open, we got to reach because there are so much hunger that is so places in India that they don’t even know. Jesus Christ. Let me show you one story. I heard from my my family, my grandfather used to take bicycle news to go and preach the gospel of Jesus Christ. And in one of the town he was going and they said, I’m here to talk about Jesus Christ. Do you know about Jesus? And the people said, oh, I don’t think so. Anybody by that name lives here in our town. So that back word people are in some of the towns. So it’s time to reach the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Evangelism Coach Daniel King (03:29):
So you are a student here at the evangelism bootcamp with Christ for all nations in Orlando, Florida. What are some of the things that you’ve been learning while you’ve been here?
Deepak Holkar (03:40):
Well, it will be hard to say in one minute, but one thing be at the feet of Jesus Christ every day, preach the gospel message with the power simple message with the power, with demolition of science and wonder, and all this comes out when you are at the feet of Jesus Christ.
Evangelism Coach Daniel King (04:01):
And so how are you staying at the feet of Jesus? And what are some of the things that Jesus has been showing you?
Deepak Holkar (04:10):
He had shown me to be humble myself before him. And it is just amazing. Like, you know how we are spending time with Jesus Christ and I believe the ministers should come out of overflow. And that overflow comes when you spend time with Jesus Christ, it’s in the secret place and not to leave him in the secret place, but to bring him with you wherever you go. And I always say our prayer begins when we leave the closet because it’s not our main and we leave him there, but we bring him into, with us, into the wall to share him with the people,
Evangelism Coach Daniel King (04:45):
Brother. I love your heart so much. When we first met you, you called me a few weeks. There says you need to come to Illinois to come minister in my small city that I was in, that you were in, in, in Illinois. And then you said, you know, I’m from India. I really want you to come to India and, and share with people about Jesus and in India. And, and tell me, what is it that really motivates you to be passionate about evangelism?
Deepak Holkar (05:11):
Well, because I got saved like, you know, five, six years back though, born in a Christian family. I really had no, no personal relationship with Jesus. And when I see people, when I see people in the churches on the road, my just my heart, just bones. And I just want to, I just want them to know that Jesus is real and you can know him personally, and you can be saved because as the Bible says, there is no name given under the heaven by which men can be saved. It is the only name of Jesus Christ. And I believe this is our time to reach those people, to share the love of Jesus Christ with them.
Evangelism Coach Daniel King (05:50):
And so how old were you when you came from India to the United States?
Deepak Holkar (05:54):
Well, I think I was around 28, 29.
Evangelism Coach Daniel King (05:59):
So you, you grew up in India and you, and tell me a little bit about the area that you grew up in, what the people are like there.
Deepak Holkar (06:06):
Well I grew up in a small town. We have a church of a hundred years old history of church. And there are a lot of people who are on fire for God. But at the same time, there are a lot of people who don’t really know Jesus Christ personally. So my heart goes out for there. And there are a lot of people are on fire. They’re waiting for you to come and share this gospel message. I know we plan, but because of COVID, it just didn’t work, but I’m believing and I’m praying for it. That what is soon, the doors will be open and there is a great harvest in, I heard of was to rich.
Evangelism Coach Daniel King (06:47):
Amen. Well, let’s finish by praying for India, which would you lead us in a prayer for the people of India?
Deepak Holkar (06:55):
Yes. Father in the name of Jesus Christ father. I come before you and I cry out to, for the people of India, for the nation of India, father. It is your one father that no one should perish, but everyone should have eternal life. We ask the doors to be open. We ask your grace your wisdom to lead us father, to reach the unreached, to reach each and every soul in India. Father. We declared that India for Jesus Christ and Jesus for India in Jesus’ name. Amen. Now,
Evangelism Coach Daniel King (07:26):
Amen. Well, thank you so much for being on the evangelism podcast. Thank you.
Deepak Holkar (07:29):
Thank you. It’s a pleasure to be with you, sir.
Evangelism Coach Daniel King (07:32):

African Enterprise was founded 60 years ago by Michael Cassidy. They have developed a stratification strategy for reaching every level of society in a city today. Bernard Sachie, the African Enterprise leader in Ghana explains the strategy that African Enterprise uses to reach people for Jesus.
Evangelism Podcast Host (00:23):
Well, Jesus said go into all the world and preach the gospel. Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved. Welcome to the evangelism podcast with Dr. Daniel King where Daniel interviews full-time evangelists, pastors, missionaries, and normal everyday Christians to discover how they share their faith, their powerful testimonies and amazing stories that will inspire you to reach people with the good news. Evangelism Coach Daniel King (00:59):
Welcome to the evangelism podcast. I’m Daniel King and I have a special guest Ben Saatchi. He is from the nation of Ghana and he is the director of African enterprises for the nation of Ghana brother. Ben, thank you for being with me today. Thank
Bernard Sachie (01:15):
You, Daniel. How are you?
Evangelism Coach Daniel King (01:17):
It’s so good to be with you. We are here in Malawi for a great gospel festival, love Malawi festival with Andrew Palau. And next year, Andrew Palau is supposed to go to Ghana. And so you are part of a delegation that is been sent here from Ghana in order to see the festival and then to go home and begin to prepare for what God is going to do there in Ghana. What, what do you hope that God will do in Ghana?
Bernard Sachie (01:45):
So I might say that I’m so excited to be in Malawi. Blantyre is such a beautiful city. And also to have the opportunity of meeting with you, Danielle. Yes, we, we, we are actually expecting love Ghana going in next year and having seen what is happening in Malawi. We believe that God, through the love festival is going to make impact in Ghana and many lives, I believe will be transformed.
Evangelism Coach Daniel King (02:12):
So you are with African enterprise, let’s start at the beginning. How did African enterprise get started? I know you have a 60 year history that you’re about to celebrate. How did African enterprise get started? Where did that
Bernard Sachie (02:25):
Background that I can give about, you know, very soon being 60 year an organization is the fact that the leader market Cassidy had a crap hall from the Lord. He was a contemporary of Billy Graham and then he had a clear call to come to Africa because he is also an African to come to Africa and do this ministry in Africa. And so in 1962, he actually started doing vandalism in Africa and African enterprise has a flagship program. We call stratified evangelism with a structural evangelism approach. Our understanding is that in every city, you try to identify the various struck time and make sure that you pack it, the gospel message in such a way that it will meet the need of every structure within the community.
Evangelism Coach Daniel King (03:16):
And so you’re trying to reach every single level within the society. Can you tell me how that works? What are some of these different strata that you’re looking to to influence with the gospel?
Bernard Sachie (03:29):
Yeah, so we look at it from the leadership app down approach and everything in between that is to say that in every city we know that there are decision makers. And so we look at it from the government level, from the executive level, from the business community level and even from the credit level. And then we also believe that there are lay people who also contributes to development of nation. And so here you are looking at the market women, the market people, district people, and then down to ed sometimes even to the prison, when we knew that people more or less, you know, share that away from society. But we make sure that each one of them has opportunity to hear the gospel because the gospel is meant for all.
Evangelism Coach Daniel King (04:14):
So tell me what nations is African enterprise working in
Bernard Sachie (04:18):
Currently, we are in 12 African nations. We are in Kenya, South Africa, Tanzania, Malawi Ghana. We are in DRC Congo. We need to appear very, very recently. We have been to Zambia and then we are also in South Sudan. I don’t know if I’ve left out any country, but 12 African countries we are operating now.
Evangelism Coach Daniel King (04:42):
And I know that in each country, your goal is to do one major outreach each year, at least one explained to me what that would look like. You go into a new city. How do you reach out to that city?
Bernard Sachie (04:56):
Okay. So it goes through a process. We normally spend two years to decide for a city. And so what happened is that we do what we called the corrupt and Jewish Schwab operation. That is to say that you visit to sort of identify, you know, the city that you want to go to look at the needs, look at the challenges. And then when that is done, you do what we call a vision custom, an individual custom. You said year to the leadership. They get keepers who are the spiritual leaders of a city. And when they’re able to buy into the idea, then you begin to set up, you know, the planning stages and apprentice stages is where you bring on board, various working teams, a ministry, or a mission of this nature would demand that many hands should be involved. One person cannot do it all. And so I normally say that we need to connect with one another, to be able to impact our city.
Evangelism Coach Daniel King (05:54):
So there’s opportunity for other evangelists, ministers from different nations to connect with you and to participate in outreaches.
Bernard Sachie (06:01):
That’s exactly what I’m trying to see because we cannot do it all by ourselves. We need some energy. People must come with other ideas just to compliment what we have and then we’ll be able to impact, of course, we are thinking about a big kingdom, not an individual kingdom.
Evangelism Coach Daniel King (06:16):
And so there’s so many different areas of society that you can impact. You have sports teams, you have the medical profession, you have businessmen the women of the city. What are some other areas that you try to target?
Bernard Sachie (06:31):
I mean, we also, you’re not valid. Typically in Africa, we have a very interesting to know what some countries, they will call border border. In some places, the [inaudible], they are the biannual Moto bike riders, and then there’s for commercial basis. And we also have the taxis. We have the bus, you know, terminals, all of these places. We make sure that the gospel get to them. And of course you can’t leave out the market in new places.
Evangelism Coach Daniel King (06:56):
And what are some of the results that you’ve seen from your ministry in Ghana? What what’s been happening? What has God been doing well in Ghana,
Bernard Sachie (07:05):
We must say that we are grateful to God for what he’s doing. Of course the whole nation Ghana, you know, people will say is a Christian nation in which, you know, it, it, it, it has other implications anyway, but when it comes to the gospel, people are very receptive to the gospel. As a, wherever you take the gospel, people are ready to come and listen to you. And so we have been able to make impact over the years. I mean, we are reaching out to a lot of people and the most interesting part is this commercial sex workers that we able to reach out to, and God is leading a lot of them into the kingdom of God, the
Evangelism Coach Daniel King (07:42):
Sex, the sex workers. Yeah.
Bernard Sachie (07:44):
Yeah, because we are not only into proclamation business. We are also into social media intervention program and Ghana, for instance, we reach out to prostitutes and after they’ve given their life to Jesus Christ, we take them to vocational training. We train them to know how to use their house, to do something for, to fend for themselves, because otherwise they will go back into their old life. And so we have been helping them. We pick some people from the streets and we put them through apprenticeship. They are into Taylor lane, dressmaking dressing, cupping tree as a whole lot of, you know, vocational Esker that we are taking them through.
Evangelism Coach Daniel King (08:24):
Share with me some of your personal testimony. How did you become excited about evangelism personally?
Bernard Sachie (08:32):
This is, this is great. I mean, it’s a very long one, but of course we can always make it very short. I became a Christian when I was in the high school that was in 1982. But before that I have had a dream I think when I was in prime ministry, I remember very well. I had a dream and in the dream Jesus was calling me to say, I am you to the city to call the people. And he dilated me to a mountain where he says, I am going to wait on this mountain, tell them to come for the adaptment. I never understood it. But when I became a Christian, then I started reading the Bible through the scripture. You knew, and not long, I became a leader. And then I walked through the ranks. And then after completing the paint, I felt like the Lord was leading me into evangelizing the rural area.
Bernard Sachie (09:22):
So I started from the ruler area. And then in 1993, I had a clear call to go to the Bible college. And after wheat, I came pastor in a church. And once I was puzzling, I knew that I was actually into evangelism. And so in 2004, I came in contact with African enterprise. I was asked to organize, I’ve got enterprise festival or mission in a city where I was living. And after I have done that a year later the then team leader called me and said, would you come to our CRA and work for us? And I prayed, I consulted my wife and some other friends. And I had a clear conviction that this is the we go now when I joined African enterprise and I looked at the mission statement, vandalizing the cities of Africa through whether indeed it resonated with the vision that I had, God calling me into the city to call people and direct them to himself. And so this is where I see myself as an evangelist, actually living to fulfill the code that God has given to me.
Evangelism Coach Daniel King (10:27):
Well, I so love your passion for Jesus and your passion for evangelism. It’s wonderful to hear what God is doing through you in Ghana. And one day I hope to come preach with you and Ghana.
Bernard Sachie (10:39):
Come. You are welcome. I cannot wait to see you then.

I’m the general secretary for the evangelical association of Malawi.
Evangelism Coach Daniel King (01:11):
And so you have been helping to lead the evangelical association of Malawi for many years, brother. Can you tell me, what is God doing here in the nation of Malawi?
Francis Mkandawire (01:22):
God is doing a lot or necessary. Possibly if we are much more obedient to him, he would have done even far, much better. We’ve let him down many times, but God is doing a lot. We w people are getting saved machetes are reaching out, I think, to, to Accra across the country. We seen churches that are getting together awaking together, which was not the case before. You’re talking of the, the mainline churches, which are there, they’re there, the Presbyterians angry, Cannes Baptists. And then the other side, the Pentecostals charismatics, and I now United, they never, you do. They used to work together. They were waking in isolation, but now we’re working together. And and the reaching out Malawi for Jesus’ love Milan festival is a clear, clear testimony of that unity of mind and peppers for the churches when it comes to evangelization of our nation. Yeah.
Evangelism Coach Daniel King (02:21):
I think that makes Jesus very happy. Jesus prayed that the church would be one as he is he and the father are one. And so when unity comes, that makes God so happy. Tell me, how has the unity come in the church? What has brought more unity among the various denominations and churches?
Francis Mkandawire (02:42):
I think there are a lot of factors. First and foremost, I think it’s a, we’ve done a lot, especially through the evangelical association of Malawi. Most of them are members. Most of these are members of India question Malawi and the, through the, the it providing platforms, join platforms for them to, into, to network share experiences. I think many, many of them are discovering that DVT. We w we are, we have one ma one, one goal and so on. So I think there they’re setting aside the boundaries between them are breaking as it were, and now they’re getting closer to each other, but also the challenges that we’ve had as a country we Malawi is we are facing a lot of challenges for, especially from the, from the the Islamic faith and many other fits men at that groups in Malawi. And because of that, you’ll find that the church is really being squeezed to a corner and they there’s, you know, each one of us realizes that on our own as individuals, we cannot survive. So we need each other. So I think challenges tend to help you budget together and, and so on. And that’s exactly what’s happening. The, we have the, the Islam is growing now in Africa especially in Southern Africa and Malawi has not been spared to that from that. So I think all those challenges are forcing us to,
Evangelism Coach Daniel King (04:10):
Yeah, there’s last week I was up in Bellanca and we saw so many mosques that have been built, and I even saw an Islamic reading center where they’re asking people to come in and ask questions for, and even schools where I was told that the, the Islamic faith is, is paying for people to go to school. So it seems like there is a real, real strategy among Islam to actively turn people towards Islam. And I think it is important for the church of Jesus Christ to, to also think strategically because we don’t wrestle against flesh and blood. We’re not against people, but we do know that there is a spiritual battle, which is being fought in the heavenlies. What are some of the strategies and the thinking of the churches here in Malawi for evangelization and reaching people for Jesus?
Francis Mkandawire (05:07):
Yes. We talk about reaching out to possibly Muslims in this country. What has happened is that many churches in my Laue do not know how to handle people have to handle Islam. I mean, people from Islamic faith, and they don’t even know how, what they believe in, in terms of or that, so what we’ve done is we’ve gotten it, we, as, as a, as an association is we’ve come up with trainings to make sure that we, we orient them on what it is easy so that they can understand what Islam is. And I know how best they can reach them out. That’s why, so we’re working closely with a number of, or edgy says that are specialized, especially in, in, in, in the ministry to Muslims. And then we, we, we are also encouraging churches that look at the tendency sometimes to stop them that the Muslims that have this strategy and they preventing their strategy building Buddha, building mosques, they are building schools and so on.
Francis Mkandawire (06:17):
And because we are Malawi’s predominantly Christian country want to say, no, no, no, no, this should stop it, but I would tell them, no, that’s their strategy. I mean, it’s this freedom of worship in this country. And people can have a free to, to, to propagate their faith Jude, to come up with the strategy, let’s come up with a strategy or now based. We can reach out to those people and so on with our own strategy. So, honestly, right now, as I’m speaking to you, we have churches that are working on, on, on coming up with a very, very clear strategy that will disseminate that across the country, in terms of reaching out, especially to our colleagues, Muslims, we are not as you say, we’re not fighting against flesh and blood. Okay. We are, we are
Evangelism Coach Daniel King (07:04):
We love everyone. I love Muslims and Muslims love me. And I love having relationships with,
Francis Mkandawire (07:11):
By the way, we talk about relationships in Malawi here, we’ve got wonderful relationships with Muslims. I mean, we have the Christian Christian religious bodies, we have the Malawi [inaudible] evangelical association, Alma, which, which we belong to and then work very closely with the Muslim, the Muslim association of Malawi at the top work very well. Actually, we, we, we have, we have we jointly make representation before government or many other issues. And we speak with one voice there, of course would have loved what is happening up here at the top at the national level should also be reflected on the grassroots because that’s where the rubber meets the ground. Unfortunately, I think our people on the grassroots at sometimes they they tend to collide. So we have always to go back and help them. And with recent, we have, we have had a number of crashes here and there, but to praise God, because at the top here, we are able to talk. We’re able to read it to, to bring peace down here. I think that’s very important. So we have a solvent that yes, whilst we’re trying to, to reach out to them with gospel our Lord Jesus Christ, the key issue should be relationships because we lit where with them, it’s easier for us to do that. I think very important. Yeah.
Evangelism Coach Daniel King (08:34):
Let’s talk about the love Malawi festival. You’ve been helping to, to organize this. And of course, Andrew Pulau came to long way several years ago in 2016. And now here in bland tire, a second big gospel festival. Tell me what impact these festivals, these loved Balawi festivals are having on this nation. Well, puff.
Francis Mkandawire (09:01):
Oh, awful. I think the first impact is the unity of the churches, churches, you know, they, they they, they work together. I love my old festival has managed like you’re talking about, but five years ago, 2016, when we were in a very long way churches we saw the, you need that, that that that CA came about because of love Malawi changes that it worked together well, they had one goal and so on and seminary in Atlanta, we sing a weekend together that we’ve never seen before churches opening up there. They are, they are, they are congregations and and participating and helping each other and so on. And wherever you go at, at, at, at the city level, as well as at various zones zones, churches are really working together. That to me is possible.
Francis Mkandawire (09:56):
I know the best best thing, but secondly is the training. We’ve received very, very good training when it comes to evangelism, very good training when it comes to canceling and all that that these teachers have had. They have people trained and that training will go beyond even love Malawi. So we, we are saying love malware has lived a powerful deposit, and we, we will look in, we’re looking on to, to to, to ask continuing beyond the love Malawi. And as a [inaudible] one thing we’ve done is to do, to get to these churches and tell them to say, look here, love Malawi’s here. It will go. But we want to, you have been trained, you’ve been trained, you’ve been trained to reach out and we want you to continue and we’ll be following you up. And that’s basically, so we were expecting a lot of things to come out of this love Malawi trend, besides the so many sores that are, that are likely to be, to be saved, who we hope there’ll be trained and developed in the churches.
Evangelism Coach Daniel King (11:05):
Yeah. That’s awesome. Well, pastor, thank you so much for being on the evangelism podcast. You are a great blessing.
Francis Mkandawire (11:11):
Oh, thank you. It’s it’s a pleasure. Thank you. God bless you.
Evangelism Coach Daniel King (11:15):

Action sports outreach uses extreme sports and bike tricks to reach people for Jesus today, John Andrus, Dustin Oram and Logan Hyman. Explain how they use their unique talent as bait to go fishing for a lost generation.
Evangelism Podcast Host (00:19):
Well, Jesus said go into all the world and preach the gospel. Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved. Welcome to the evangelism podcast with Dr. Daniel King, where Daniel interviews, full-time evangelists, pastors, missionaries, and normal everyday Christians to discover how they share their faith, their powerful testimonies and amazing stories that will inspire you to reach people with the good news. And now here’s your host missionary and evangelist Daniel King.
Evangelism Coach Daniel King (00:55):
Welcome to the Evangelism Podcast. I’m Daniel King, and I’m excited about telling people about Jesus today. I have three special guests, John Dustin, and Logan, and they are all part of action sports outreach. And we are here in the nation of Malawi. Each of you have brought a bicycle with you. Tell me, how have you been using your bicycles to reach people for Jesus?
John Andrus (01:21):
We’re bicycle riders, we love doing tricks. We love to use it to entertain. We just have that in us. We’d love to do crazy things and to take our sport to the next level, but being able to use it as a tool to bring smiles, to bring joy to people and just to open people’s ears up just for a moment so that we can, we can drop Jesus into them.
Evangelism Coach Daniel King (01:40):
That’s awesome. And so, as we’ve gone out into different schools out in the streets even during the festivals, you guys have brought your bicycles with you. And I remember Dustin, we were in one of the cities last week and we were out on the street and you started doing bike tricks. And just instantly, there were several hundred kids that just gathered around and it just instantly pulled people in. And then we got to preach the gospel to them. Now,
Dustin Orem (02:12):
The Lord’s so good and it’s such a blessing how he uses something as simple as the, the BMX bike as a resource to gather people that his, his good news would be heard, and that he’d be able to take people from death to life. And we’re just thankful to use the bicycles as a, as a tool to come alongside the churches, the local communities, pastors ministers and work with evangelists at large to proclaim proclaim Christ.
Evangelism Coach Daniel King (02:43):
Now, several times, I’ve heard you do an illustration with your bike. You put your bike down to the ground and you say bicycle do tricks. How do you use that to share the gospel?
Dustin Orem (02:54):
Just looking at John 15, where the branch and the vine and the, just like the branch can do nothing apart from the vine. Neither can we do anything apart from Jesus, but bicycle CRE with value and purpose is built for relationship and without the rider, it just sits there and using that to illustrate as they just saw stunts or are about to see stunts and are excited for that, but want that visual to be made known as we do that. But this is all for Jesus says just like the bicycle. We can do nothing apart from Jesus Christ and using that as an illustration to start that, and then be able to go into what we need to restore that relationship is in that moment. I’m not on the bicycle, the bicycles laying on the ground. So there’s a separation for it to go and what it’s supposed to, to do the stunts that it was created to do. And so they’re able to see that and we can go into our need for Jesus and the separation we have due to sin and, and what he has done to restore that relationship to walk in the power. He, he gives,
Evangelism Coach Daniel King (03:54):
So each of you love bike riding, and you’ve kind of grown up, I guess, since you were young kids just loving to ride bikes, but how did you transition from being just a bike rider to becoming evangelists? Because now you guys are actually using your skill in order to preach the gospel. How did that happen?
John Andrus (04:13):
But yeah, for me, about 20 years ago I was deep in, in the BMX and skateboard culture. I loved it and I was a Christian at the time, a new Christian and you know, I spent a lot of time at church being discipled and just excited to be a part of the worship team and all that. And at, at the time 20 years ago, nobody was really using action sports in like a ministry way. And the Luis Palau association, they came out with a DVD that they put together called live in it. I was skateboarders pro skateboarders, pro BMX riders put together this video of them just doing what they love and then mix the gospel message in there. And I was like, wow, there’s Christians that do this. And they do it for ministry. And so the Lewis Paul association was actually a cool hub that a lot of Christian ministries that did action sports started to come together to. And we ultimately, that’s where Dustin and I met and we met Vic Murphy and all these other ministries, even you Daniel King, we met through this hub the global evangelist or the global network of evangelists. Yeah. So it, so that was actually a cool connection point for us to see how we can use sports for the kingdom. Yeah. I really liked
Evangelism Coach Daniel King (05:17):
The global network of evangelists. They have an expression, they say there’s many expressions, but one message. And so you guys are evangelists using your bikes and then other people may have gifts in different areas, but you are using the talent, the gifting that God has given you to bring glory to him, which, which is amazing. Logan, what is this trip to Africa been like for you? What have you learned from this? What have you, what’s your experience? And
Logan Heiman (05:47):
So it’s been amazing. I mean, Dustin and I been here three weeks now, John just got here, you’ve been here. We’ve been with you the whole time Daniel brought up. Yeah. So I’ve done trips similar to this. But I haven’t done anything with either the Global Network of Evangelists or the Palau’s. And I mean, just for me seeing how much like God is doing globally and how honestly small the world is like with all these festivals. And I mean, the whole team is from so many different countries. So yeah, it’s really opened my eyes. We did India, Dustin and I, and it wasn’t as evangelistic. But yeah, this trip has been eyeopening and just so motivating and revived my joy in the Lord riding and just life in travel and in my heart for people. So, yeah, it’s been amazing
Evangelism Coach Daniel King (06:43):
Action. Sports outreach does not only do stuff here in Africa. You’re very active in America doing outreaches. Tell me some about what an outreach in the context of the United States would look, look like.
John Andrus (06:59):
Yeah. So our, the stage name for our, for our show team, the stage name is the stunt dudes. And we use that and we just put on events with ramps, we set up ramps, we set up sound high energy music, and we just do an entertainment. It’s kinda like the modern day circus with without the outfits and everything. And and, and
Evangelism Coach Daniel King (07:18):
No elephants, can I confirm there’s no elephants we’ve been
John Andrus (07:21):
Working on that. We’d really love to get some live animals.
Evangelism Coach Daniel King (07:23):
They get an elephant that rides a bike. That would be the best.
John Andrus (07:27):
I mean, the future hopefully holds some pyrotechnics and explosions and fires and animals. I mean, that’s, that’s the vibe we’re going for with the stunt it’s so yeah, we just put on high energy entertaining shows and we try to have everything lead to the cross. So we just want people to know Jesus and do it in a very fun, exciting way. So we’ll set up in parking lots on church stages. Pretty much anywhere you can think of. We go into the schools, we go into the prisons anywhere that you can put two wheels of a bike or a skateboard we’ll, we’ll set it up and we’ll start doing some crazy tricks and having some fun for the Lord.
Evangelism Coach Daniel King (07:59):
And so what type of venues do you go into, do you go to churches, schools you do just outreaches in city squares.
John Andrus (08:08):
Yeah, we do. We really do a variety of pretty much anywhere you can put a bicycle. So one of the, one of the models we really like in the states is when we can do school assemblies, we’ll do a week of school assemblies, and then we can’t do the gospel message in public schools, but we can invite them to to an outreach. So, so we’ll have like a weekend event and we’ll saturate a small city with the gospel through the school, not the gospel, what, with an invitation through the school assemblies and then have a big event on the weekend and invite them to come out. And that way we get a huge turnout usually. And we see a lot of people respond to Christ
Evangelism Coach Daniel King (08:41):
Yesterday. I heard you preach a message, give an altar call. It was thousands of kids were surrounding the ramps and you just started to preach to them. What does that feel like when you have an opportunity to take someone from darkness and bring them into the light?
John Andrus (09:00):
Oh man, there’s, there’s nothing greater than just making eye contact with people. When you can tell that they’re thinking about the God of the universe and thinking about where they’re standing with him and seeing that they can have a free gift of eternal life and be right with God that day. So just seeing people’s faces as they’re hearing the gospel, it’s what I live for. And so, you know, a lot of times we only have a short amount of time to share the gospel. And so, like we have heavy convictions of like bringing the truth as, as much as possible in a short amount of time. And to be able to let people know that they don’t have to earn their way to heaven, like Christ already came, he earned the way he paid the way for them. And they have to believe in receive, turn and follow him and they can have eternal life. And I mean, we wouldn’t be doing this if it wasn’t for that.
Evangelism Coach Daniel King (09:44):
Well, I so admire your gift, your skill. When you do a flip on the bike or jump high, everyone is oohing and aahing, but you always make sure Dustin, you ride back up on the platform and you point to heaven and give the glory to God. And, and so I just love that. It love what you guys do, and I’m so honored to partner with you in order to bring people to Jesus. Awesome
John Andrus (10:09):
Glory,
Evangelism Coach Daniel King (10:09):
Lord. So thank you for being on the evangelism podcast. I appreciate it.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (00:56):
Welcome to the evangelism podcast. I’m Daniel King. Did they have a special guest? Wesley Paul, thank you for joining me today.
Wesley Paul (01:04):
It’s great to be here with you, Daniel. I’m learning so much from you, man.
Evangelism Coach Daniel King (01:08):
Well, you were born in the nation of India. Now you live in Kentucky. Tell me about how God has brought you to where you are now.
Wesley Paul (01:18):
Well, I moved to Kentucky in 1984. I came by fate. I left India with $20, trusting God for all my needs, and I’ve seen God just take care of me and provide for me. We so I came to Canada first and then from there, I went to Cumberland College, which is called the University of The Cumberland’s now. So that’s what I finished up and went to new Orleans seminary and then do Iowa.
Evangelism Coach Daniel King (01:47):
And so you’ve been doing evangelism in many different places around the world. How did you become an evangelist?
Wesley Paul (01:54):
Well, I was when I was in India, I’d watch these guys come and do these large crusades. And I tell myself, you know, I’m going to be an evangelist someday. That must’ve been what, eight, nine years old little kid. So even now when I’m preaching, I’m looking for those eight, nine year olds because I figured maybe one of them is going to be an evangelist like me. So I grew up with that in my head, you know, that I would be one day an evangelist. And so everything I did schooling college, I thought I’m going to get ready for that. But along the way, I lost my way a 16 to 18, 19 years old. I was just, just a lost kid, but God found me and restored me and kept that passion going to be an evangelist. So when I went to college, I was a youth minister and then seminary pastor chaplains. So it took me until nine. It took me about 1998 to surrender and to become, you know, in that field of being an evangelist.
Evangelism Coach Daniel King (02:54):
And it sounds like one of the things that, that really helps you in your path to becoming an evangelist was your association with the next generational Alliance, your relationship with Luis Palau and his example as an evangelist, what are some of the things you learned from being with Luis Palau?
Wesley Paul (03:13):
Well, in 1999, I became one of the next generation Alliance evangelists. I mean, I’ve learned so much Lewis would roll up our sleeves and say, I see Vangelis, man. We’ve got to stick together. And so I like what we, you and I are doing right now. Exactly what we’re living in Louis’ dream. And then he said, go to the small towns and do these festivals. You might not get the invitation to go to big towns. So don’t be this big headed guy that thinks you’re some, some movie star that’s got to have a platform and a stage, just go wherever the Lord opens the door.
Evangelism Coach Daniel King (03:47):
And so you’ve been doing that in your ministry. Tell me some of the places that God has opened up doors for you.
Wesley Paul (03:53):
Well, I have to give credit to Louis for this, I got a call one day said, Hey, would you like to come to Puerto Rico? And I’m like, wow, Puerto Rico is like going to Hawaii or something. So I said, of course, and they said, I’ll pay, we’ll want you to come there for a week. We’ll pay you our way down there. We’ll give you an honorarium, puts you up in a nice apartment. And I was like, wow. And I asked him, how did you even get my name and where, how you calling? And he said, well, we went down to the Luis Palau website and we saw your name as one of the evangelists. So we thought that Lewis doesn’t hang out with shady people. So we thought we’ll invite you over. So, man, I went to Puerto Rico in 2003 as a result of that.
Wesley Paul (04:35):
And, and I’ve been going there ever since every year and I’ve done several meetings and so many churches there love our ministry and support us. And they’ve sent me to the ends of the earth. So I got to thank Louis for opening that door, but there’s so many things I learned like that, you know, we got to work together. Doors have open because I tell people that, you know, we were with Luis Palau ministry. So people trust that. And I’ve also gained boldness and confidence because you know, you go to a big city and you meet with pastors and leaders. You can, you watch Louis do this, you know, bring churches and cities together. So I feel like I’m one of his offsprings. I’ll just go in and say, yeah, we’ve done these meetings. And, and, and my has done them and we’d love to talk to your churches. And so it just gives us an edge, a boldness that if Louis can do it, I can do it.
Evangelism Coach Daniel King (05:27):
Let’s talk about India. 1.2 billion people live in the nation of India. For some evangelist, evangelism in India has become very difficult. Some have even been kicked out because of visa issues, but it’s a huge harvest field. And I know that God loves India and God wants India to come to Jesus. Well, what do you think God wants to do in the nation of India?
Wesley Paul (05:54):
Well, I think India is such an opportune. Even I sometimes being born there, I feel like, what am I doing here? This is such a vast ocean. What difference am I making? You might feel that way too, but I’m telling you, when you go there and God uses you with one person or one family or one village, you see the impact. And, and I believe that you know, I used to do a lot of meetings in the south and there’s a lot of people in the south were believers. So if anybody is going, I want to encourage you not just to go to the south, but think of the north, think of the west, the Bengali, the Eastern parts of India and other parts, because south has the gospel or mean when somebody has heard the gospel once, why should they hurt here at two times and three times and four times go to places in India where you are very few people have heard the gospel.
Wesley Paul (06:48):
And so now I go to the Northern parts and there’s so much harvest. Then I mean, I see miracles and signs and wonders and, and God does that. One of the guys that I’m mentoring his name is Andrew. Every village, he goes to, there’s a miracle. There’s one story I can quickly say somebody called him and said, come cast out this demon and this woman. And he got us on his phone and cast out this evil spirit, right? So the village said they wanted to honor him. So when they, when he came, they were like waiting for him. Like he was a movie star like garlands and flowers, 50, 60 people, families. This is not just with, they want him to start a church in their village. So just even over a phone, somebody could, you know, show and manifest the power of God.
Wesley Paul (07:35):
So I’m saying, I don’t know whether it’s on zoom or whether it’s on whatever way you can do ministry in India, do it because the people in India need the gospel and India can be reached. And one of the goals I have is to train evangelists in India. And I think Daniel, you and I talked about that. We need to find those evangelists and encourage them and help them just like Luis Palau did for us, the boldness and the encouragement I got, I’ve been able to do big things. And I want those Indian evangelists feel that confidence as well.
Evangelism Coach Daniel King (08:06):
Tell me some testimonies of what you have seen God do in various nations that you’ve gone to.
Wesley Paul (08:16):
One of the vivid pictures I have is of being in Roger, Stan, and part of India, where there were so many people are packed in this small auditorium, seven, 800 people. And I asked the pastor, I saw no homes around here, only rocks and you know, mountains of rocks and how, where did these people come? And he said, they come here because they’re oppressed by demonic spirits. They are sick and they need deliverance. They need healing. And when they come here to the church, I pray for them. And mind you, Daniel, this guy is uneducated, illiterate, but stands there with a Bible in his hand with his few scriptures in his, the authority of God and the power of God is on him. And when I was in his church, God was doing amazing miracles and signs and wonders. People were getting saved.
Wesley Paul (09:05):
And so I asked him of course the same question, how are people coming? And when he told me that, when they see God do these powerful things, they tell their neighbor and the neighbor tells them. And so what I want to encourage people is to lean into that power of God, lean into that authority that God has given you to cast out demons in the heal, the sick, because if we don’t do that nations, like India will never see God. You know, it’s not just a belief, but they need to experience God, they’ll say, oh, we believe in Jesus. He’s like another God, no, no, no. I want them to experience that he is the living God. Another experience I had was I was in this big, large event in India. In these front of the podium, there was so many demons.
Wesley Paul (09:49):
There was like snakes, dancing. I mean, women were, you know, just putting, pulling their hair and they were riding. They were just shaking. I mean, it was just weird. And you, if you’ve seen a demon possessed thing, my heart really felt so broken in our wept that night, when I came back to the room and I said, God, my people are so tormented. You need to deliver them, raise up pastors of believe in that power of the holy ghost so that they can be set free. I mean, I’ve seen so many miracles, man. I don’t know, we could, we could talk about it all day long, but these are things that I really shake me and other need for people to be delivered the need for the gospel to be not just preach, but experience
Evangelism Coach Daniel King (10:31):
As an evangelist. Not only do you preach the gospel, but you also work to empower believers to share their faith. Tell me how do you do that? What encouragement do you give?
Wesley Paul (10:43):
Well, I, I tell people as an evangelist, whereas we’re called to equip others to share their faith. So I love using the three circles, which I don’t know if you use it. If you come across, that’s really a powerful tool.
Evangelism Coach Daniel King (10:55):
Yeah. As a matter of fact, I have some articles about three circles on my website and even a place where people can download load some graphics and print stickers. If they want to, at what I do, I encourage people to put a sticker on the back of their phone with the three circles. And so everywhere they go, they’re ready to share the gospel, whether they’re standing in line at Starbucks or
Wesley Paul (11:17):
I was in Lilongwe airport at the security guy who would help me with my phone. I shared with them through three circles and I, and there was another guy looking in on what we were doing. And I said to him, Tippo, you share with him now. So he was excited about that. So I teach people how to share through tools like that. But I also, I found then it’s just easy if you’re really in touch with God, if you’re really in communion with God intimacy with God, it all flows. Like for example, my wife and I were a couple of weeks before we came here at a restaurant and this lady, a young lady by the name of Aubrey was waiting on us. So I just said, Hey, Aubrey, we’re going to pray for our food. How can we, you know, pray and, and what can we pray for you?
Wesley Paul (12:04):
And she said, well, I’ve got, I’m married. And I have two kids and pray for my kids, for my husband and my work. And I said, so when you go to church, where do you go to church Aubrey? And she’s like, oh, it was 13 years ago, or so I used to go to church and I used to be real, real, real, regular. And I said, how about your husband? Oh yeah, he was really religious. And he hasn’t gotten back in church. And I said, my friend’s church is right down the street. If I gave you his information, would you go? She said, absolutely. So it was a point of connection. Some people, you know, just need to be encouraged to go to church or get back in relationship with God. But you can have those conversations when you are, whether eating somewhere, whether you’re dining, my wife, who I was at a phone shop one time and was looking at all the specs on a phone, you know, asking what gigabyte does it have and what surf my wife like, oh, so when you go to church, what are you going to church?
Wesley Paul (13:00):
And so she was tuned into that guy. And so, you know, I think there’s so many ways. It just, if we’re really sensitive to people around us and wonder, you know, Hey, how’s their soul. I think that sensitivities, you know, if we keep asking, God, God show me my assignment today. God, I love you so much. I want to talk about you. You know, the other day I was reading John 17 and Jesus in towards the last part of it. I think verse 23 or something, Jesus said, father, I have made you known to them. That’s what Jesus says, that he was witnessing that that’s the model I want to practice father. I have made you known to them and I am praying for them that they will make you known to others and that your love would be in them. I mean, Jesus wants that, that, that his love father’s love would be in them and the word of God would be in them.
Wesley Paul (13:49):
So if that’s what Jesus was praying, I should be praying the same thing. So I think if, if, if it really comes down to the nitty gritty of it, I’m just saying, practice it as a lifestyle. Don’t do it because somebody told you, or because it’s the great commission or the great command doors, all right there in our face staring everyday. But if you feel obligated and if you feel like it’s, I gotta do this, it becomes legalistic. Get that out of your mind. It’s not legalism it’s I love Jesus. I want to talk about him just like Jesus loved the father. And he wanted the father’s love to be in other people. That’s just natural stuff. Right. And it just, if we love God, we want that love to be in other people. So anyway, that’s, that’s my take on evangelism.
Evangelism Coach Daniel King (14:33):
Oh, that’s awesome. Let’s talk about what God is doing here in Malawi. You came in for the last night of our festival and we had just tremendous results. It was probably the largest night, over 10,000 people there on the field. And, and it was around 1600 decision cards that were filled out. You preached about Zack Kius
Wesley Paul (14:59):
Well, they knew that, that I was coming. So they all wanted to come see me. No, I’m just kidding. No, I, I just love preaching about this. The key is man. I love his character because he really is the epitome of a crooked man. And if God can change a crooked man like that, he can change anybody. So I love talking about that and how God converts people in my real goal was that to see people not just say, yeah, I believe in Christ, but I wanted to see them convert because we have too many Christians in Africa. We have too many Christians in America. They’re not converted. So my message in that is let’s be converted. Let’s, let’s really be authentic about our faith and not, you know, just kind of say we’re seekers. And we believe in God, but really not transformation. And so Jackie’s story really tells that transformation and it was really powerful to see, you know, all those people, 1,686 decisions that night,
Evangelism Coach Daniel King (15:58):
It was powerful and your preaching was really powerful. And at the end, you prayed for the sick and God did some tremendous miracles in the lives of so many people there. If someone wants to know more about your ministry, what is your website?
Wesley Paul (16:13):
My website is just like my name, Wesley Paul, just like the John Wesley. That’s the Wesley. And then the Paul is like the apostle Paul: http://wesleypaul.org.

And now here’s your host, missionary and evangelist Daniel King.
Evangelist Coach Daniel King (00:58):
Welcome to the evangelism podcast today. I have a very special guest, Andrew Palau, the son of the great evangelists from Argentina, Luis Palau. And so we are sitting in the nation of Malawi tonight. The festival begins here in Blantyre brother. Andrew, thank you for being with me today. Good to be together,
Andrew Palau (01:20):
Daniel. Thank you. Thanks for coming. And we get to serve together again. It’s amazing, right?
Evangelist Coach Daniel King (01:25):
Yeah. So let’s start at the beginning. How did you come to Jesus? I know it’s a really great story and it involves coming to a festival.
Andrew Palau (01:34):
I love festivals. I am the jokes on me. I always say I came to the Lord out of Luis Palau festival in Kingston, Jamaica at the age of 27. And I was born and raised in that great Christian home. You said the great evangelist. I’m like, he was great. He is great. He’s greater than ever. Now six months ago, he went to be with the Lord and you know, the doctor said three to six months at first and the Lord give us three great years, so much accomplish so many great family dynamics advance. It’s just a tremendous blessing. But yeah, dad and mom you know, had their third son. That was me, twins, Kevin and Keith, then me and then my little brother, Steve, but you know, the Bible says all of us like sheep have gone astray.
Andrew Palau (02:21):
Each one has turned to their own way. So mom always says you, everybody wants to hear your testimony, but I had just as much trouble with Kevin, Keith and Steve, you know but my, my, you know, if we each go our own way, my way was longer away from the Lord, more burdensome, I suppose Kevin and Keith and Steve taming in their time. But I took so much longer, just ran off into the world and all the garbage of the world, alcohol and drugs and all those relationships of that lifestyle. And you know, had a great relationship, mom and dad, because I wasn’t an angry, you know belligerent rebel. I was much more difficult than that. I was just, you know, you just couldn’t pin me down. I was happy, nice out this facade on the outside, happy and peaceful. And, but inside there’s turmoil and a real selfish self-interest and they were trying to figure that out.
Andrew Palau (03:16):
What do we do? 27 years? I wandered away and they never gave up. And that’s how I came to faith. Really. I would, you know, God has chosen to use people who deliver the gospel, who lived the life. And that example, their love for one another. He says they will know about me and that, that they’re following me by their love to one another. I saw that in the world around me, eventually it impacted me, but mom and dad prayed for me and that’s really foundational, right? The power of prayer is so critical in the salvation story of anybody. And I see that so powerfully in my life, they lived the life. That’s the second thing they did. They were just faithful, you know, and they weren’t perfect, but they were changed and you could see it. And when everything crumbled around me in that sense, you know, and it became evident.
Andrew Palau (04:04):
I looked around and like, where can I go from here? And it’s like, there’s that island of strength of people with peace and in this troubling world and you, you gravitate to it, right? It’s like the aroma of life to you then. And I moved towards it. So then they shared with me the gospel and in so many ways, one-on-one sending people after me, you know, sending me books, writing me letters. But ultimately I was living in Boston five years out of the university working my way up, the corporate ladder. That sounds better than it really was. But I was out there in Boston working and they, they just said, son, we’re having this festival. It’s in Jamaica. Do you want to come? And I was like, I don’t really want to go to the festival, but I do want to go to Jamaica.
Andrew Palau (04:49):
And when I went out there, the Lord had been orchestrating things in such a way, unbeknownst to me or them really. I think they just moved in obedience to the spirit. Like they had a lot of festivals. They didn’t invite me to, but when the spirit prompted them, they were faithful and they invited me. And I went out there and long story short, you know when I heard that gospel message for the thousands of time, I would suppose. It’s just like, like we hear you hear people say this all the time and maybe, you know, some of you have experienced it where you’re in a crowd and it feels like it’s just you and God. And I sense that it’s like, I know dad’s preaching. I suspected he was needling me and, you know, going for me. But it wasn’t really evident by the message.
Andrew Palau (05:32):
I think he was preaching about the rich, rich young ruler that night. I’m like, I’m not rich. I don’t rule anything. This isn’t for me, but it was for me. And the spirit was pushing me and, and, and the hound of heaven, you know, getting me and I, I finally relented and just said, God, please, will you forgive me? And of course he is faithful. Cleansed me in that moment, lifted me up, took the shame and the guilt field, me of the many addictions that were harassing me, that I brought into my life and, you know, getting a new desires of my heart. And really my calling for the ministry came in that very moment. I’m kind of consolidating a couple moments really. But in that season of repentance, the Lord brought me this calling, which was very simple, which was that he just said, you’ll tell everyone what I’ve done. I had no idea what that meant, but I was like, of course, what else would I do look at what’s happening. I didn’t realize what he was saying. It came in sort of phases of revealing itself, you know what a good God we have. Huh. And that’s how it happened. And my wife was very involved. Her testimony as a Jamaican woman, her family involved in the festival. I saw her testimony and the testimony of her brother having recently come to faith, all these things come together. Don’t they?
Evangelist Coach Daniel King (06:49):
And then how did you start to grow in your understanding that you had the calling of an evangelist upon your life? Because of course your, your, your father was an evangelist, had that strong calling on his life. How did that desire to preach the gospel, start to grow in you?
Andrew Palau (07:05):
I wanted people to experience what I’d experienced. You know, you, you experienced that radical transformation for me. Some people are really in longer slower seasons and then they come, but for me, it was just that incredible radical transformation and lifting. So it was startling to me and stark, you know, from death to life, from dark to light. And I wanted everyone to experience it. I just thought I’ll do whatever it takes. So I see my dad is Luis Palau, his work as effective as I’ve experienced. I want to empower it with any small thing I could do. So I started carrying his bags and learning and growing. I had no intention or idea in my mind at all of being a preaching evangelist being up on in front of people was like, it was so far outside the realm of my interest or capacity. It was horrifying to think of, of it.
Andrew Palau (07:59):
So I was just thinking of, maybe I can serve dad and become part of the team. I would spend my life for this and the, whatever, whatever it is. But as I began to do that, opportunities would come in. The cities, people would think, oh, there’s lease plus son. He will maybe he’ll come to our school or maybe we’ll come to this. And I resisted it so much. I was like, dad don’t do that to me. I don’t want to go up front. And he was like sympathetic, but not really. He would put me in front and say, just tell them what God did. And I would, I remember the first time ever, I was so angry at him. I just couldn’t believe he would do it to me. And he, we were at a school. I think it was in Guatemala, my first international trip with him.
Andrew Palau (08:38):
And there was a school and I, I, I thought of trying to share my testimony. It was confusing to me even to think, what did God do? I don’t know how to describe it, but I did my best in many tears, bawling. The interpreter couldn’t even interpret practically. He probably made his own message up because I was so myself. And but I think it was, you know, 80 boys came to faith that day. And I, and I think dad noted it. I just thought, wow, that’s crazy. It just goes to show there’s power in the gospel, because that was weird. But that, that was like a moment. I always think back to my friend Dan Owens, who is a great evangelist. Do you remember Dan? You might not have met him. He went to be with the Lord. He was on our staff at that time as a really a right-hand man to dad an encourager and evangelist.
Andrew Palau (09:26):
And he, he took me under his wing and right after I got back, he said, Andrew, come with me. He was doing a crusade in a little town called Brookings, Oregon, tiny little coastal town in Southern Oregon. And I was so excited. Oh, I get to go with Dan and carry his bags and learn and grow from him. And on the on the, on the ride in the van, down to the coast, he said to me, just like an hour out of town, it’s like a six hour drive. He said, on, on Saturday night, you’re going to share your testimony, Andrew. And I was like, no, you’re insane. I’m not going to do it. I just did it in Guatemala. It was a disaster. I hate it. It’s agony, I’m terrible. And he’s like, you’re doing it. And I was like, okay. I said, I would do what, you know, he’s my boss.
Andrew Palau (10:10):
I got to do it. So I did it. Same thing, tears, almost indecipherable, you know, but I tried, he reminded me of the simple facts. Don’t miss the cross. Don’t, you know, deliver the gospel, share your story. Trust the Lord. Many people came to faith and, you know, I just had a little moments of opportunity along the way. And it, it became evident. It was many years later. I think it was probably 12 years of serving dad and in directing crusades and directing festivals, eventually that at a point in time the pressure came. I was like, Moses, you know, I suppose I’m pretty sympathetic to Moses because he, when he said to God, like you got the wrong guy, I don’t talk so good. You know, he probably, it probably was true, right? It’s not like you have some massive eloquent driven. Like from the day he was born, just give me a crowd.
Andrew Palau (11:05):
He felt what was true in the flesh and the human side. He probably was terrible, but God didn’t care about that. He said, I told you to do it. Are you going to do it? Yes or no. And I remember in this season where I was being moved into the preaching evangelism part, I’m kind of fast forwarding to that. It was agony for about a year. Things were getting tense and you know, my disobedience to that call began to reveal itself, even in relationships and with me and Wendy. And she’s like, what is wrong with you? Don’t you see, you know, like you guys are trying to push, I thought they were operating in the flesh. Like you guys all just think that just because I’m an Elisa son that I’m going to be evangelists, that doesn’t even make sense. But it w it was, it was what God had for me.
Andrew Palau (11:48):
Finally, I was reading about Moses and in, just in this disturbed season resisting and I read that story. And then I got to the part where zipper, Torah, Moses, his wife realized that it said the Lord was coming to take Moses’s life. Like, you look at the texts, you think, oh, it looks like God. And Moses worked it out. Right. But Moses was going to get it, you know? And I, I, it’s just this revelation in my mind of like, that’s you. And I really felt this genuine sense that like, I’m dead. You know, that the Lord has given me this opportunity and he’s coming to take me. I don’t know if he would have taken my life or just taking the opportunity for me, whatever it would have been. It was serious. And it was like an immediate, like in the same way, my conversion was immediate.
Andrew Palau (12:39):
I just immediately repented. I’m like, I it’s like you. I came to my senses. Right. And I was like, oh God, please. I’m so sorry. If it’s not too late, forgive me. I will do it. I’ll do anything you say. I said, I’d do anything. And now it comes to this and I’m resisting. Please forgive me. And he was so merciful opened up the opportunities that came from them to, to be in cities and serve. I love the cities. I love the unity. I love since I see how it, it got me to that place. I see how it can get others to that place. And so I really believe in the model, how it brings unity, furthers, unity, really how it provides opportunities for for people to you know, it says as an evangelist, you’re going to be inefficient for preparing God’s people for works of service. So I see how the environment of the festival provides a lot of that. So you’re fulfilling that you’re proclaiming the gospel is pure joy to me. So long answers, Daniel, sorry,
Evangelist Coach Daniel King (13:36):
Your father was very well known throughout Latin America. And then later doing lots of festivals in the United States, but it seems like the door that God has really opened for you over the years has been right here in Africa. And so right now, we’re in Malawi. This is actually the second time that we have been in Malawi. In 2016, the Palau team came to Lilongwe, which is the capital Malawi. And at that time I came and collaborated on one of the satellite festivals. It was, it was Mizzou, which is like three hours north of long way. And it was me and Keith Cook, collaborating. And, and it’s, you know, it’s such a privilege to be a part of the global network of evangelists, which is your entire network of evangelists all over the world that you’re encouraging and helping, and, and this idea of collaboration that working together, that we can accomplish something much greater than if we all work apart. And so now we are in Blantyre. The city is named after the birthplace of David Livingstone, the first missionary Explorer who came through this part of Africa. And tell
Andrew Palau (14:51):
Me kind of what you have seen in this journey here in Malawi and kind of what the strategy is and what you’re hoping that God does in this nation. Yeah. Well, God gave me my once I’ve relented, I went to another mentor of mine, Tim Rob net, who has really been super involved in all of our evangelists, networking and relationships. He’s been such a great mentor to us all and discipler. He, he said to me at that time, I said, look I I’m I’m, I’m in, you know, forgive me. I had to ask everyone to forgive me for causing such a, you know, upheaval at the team. And he said, that’s fine. Ask the Lord for where you should be. And I said, what do you mean? He meant, he said, just geographically. And I began to think quickly, the Lord gave me this geographic understanding.
Andrew Palau (15:40):
Like, if you are involved in these areas each year, taking any open door that comes, that will be the fulfillment of what I’m asking to do. So it was a number of places in the U S Latin America, very obvious. The UK, there was a strange burden to say persist and a few other places, but Africa wasn’t there yet a year later. So that’s how I think, by the way, that’s why, if we have one festival in each of those places every year, six to eight, then I know like we’re on track. But Africa came when we adopted our daughter, Sadie from Ethiopia, the Lord added it, because at that time, dad had never been in Africa. We didn’t know anything about Africa, so it didn’t, it didn’t the Lord didn’t put it on my mind. It wasn’t a natural kind of supernatural thing.
Andrew Palau (16:27):
It was, it came later uniquely supernaturally to Wendy and I, when we were there in Addis Ababa, getting Saidy, the Lord just said, add it. And I said, happily, yes, but where do I start? I went back home to Tim Robinett and I said, Tim, you’re not going to believe this. God just, you know, God doesn’t speak to me like that much, maybe three or four times that clearly, and to me and Wendy together was like, whoa, what are we going to do? And I said, Tim, what do you think we should do? And it was amazing. He just put his hand on his desk and had a piece of paper on it. And he said, that’s very interesting because here’s a, an invitation for you, not Louise because everybody invited Lewis. And then if, if I, if he couldn’t do it, then they’d invite me and say, oh, okay.
Andrew Palau (17:10):
You know? But and it was for me, will Andrew plow come and do a festival in Kigali, Rwanda? And I was like, I was just floored. You know, I was like, what do you mean? Where does this come from? I don’t know anyone there, but somehow the Lord had orchestrated it just to confirm this thing. And Tim reminded me, I had been doing some things in Poland, Romania, India, with Tim’s guidance. Like we all have gone with Tim, right. He just a set us all up so beautifully and giving us chances. But, but he said, don’t forget. Also last year you were in Cairo, Egypt. And I had done my first African festival already and long story, I’m sorry, I get excited, but I’ll bore you to tears. But so he was like, God said 10 capital cities in 10 years, which was again, very weird, like very precise.
Andrew Palau (17:57):
I’m like, that sounds like a marketing campaign. Lord. I can’t tell anybody. And he’s like, well, then don’t tell anybody, but that’s your calling? So we had been in Cairo kind of a confirming, like, again, like Tim was right, just so you don’t think it’s your bright idea he had already begun to do at Kira was one Kigali. Now we went through the 10 capital cities. And from there he’s given us freedom to then expand to non-capital cities as well. So now I feel like we will push to when my, when I’m dying, I will have an African festival on the books, I suppose that would be my dream. And that’s why Africa became such a, such a passion for us. But in the beginning also, I thought I don’t ever want to go to the cities alone. I want to go with a team.
Andrew Palau (18:39):
Dad set the example. He gave us all these opportunities. And so in this festival here, like this week, there’s a ton of us, you know, spread out across the city. I have my part, but man, we’ve seen far more people come to faith in the schools that I haven’t had. I haven’t even had the privilege of going to the schools yet. It’s been all Malawi and evangelists in there. 12,000 people have come to faith already before the festival starts. Most of them, I think in those schools, you went to the schools, you and Wesley went.
Evangelist Coach Daniel King (19:08):
Yeah. And I came actually 10 days early and we did events in Balaka and Luchenza and Mulanje, and just saw tremendous results. I think Desmond Henry has added up all the numbers. We had total attendance over 60,000 people. So before even the big festival comes here to Blantyre, there’s always already been a tremendous harvest of what God is doing here. And
Andrew Palau (19:35):
Your festivals that you guys did have collaboration. My festivals have a massive collaboration. Yours has a massive collaboration and the whole thing is a massive collaboration. So that’s kind of, my vision is like to whatever degree we can just empower people in their gifts and introduce networks to each other. Then, you know, you really are building a strong momentum for the future that we can. We’ve been invited back. I know you guys have been invited back to Malawi because of the alliances over a thousand churches participating in Blantyre over a thousand churches, participating in your cities that you went to. It’s really beautiful. And we’re excited that there’s great days ahead for the, for us together and all of you you’re in it.
Evangelist Coach Daniel King (20:18):
Yeah. So if you’re an evangelist, I’d encourage you to go to evangelism.global. And that’s the website for the global network of evangelists. And you can find out more about how you can be a part, how you can join the GNE and how you can participate in helping to reach the world. Yeah.
Andrew Palau (20:38):
Thanks for bringing us together, Daniel. This Is great. Thank you for being on the evangelism podcast. I appreciate it. Keep going, tune in.
Evangelist Coach Daniel King (20:46):
Thanks so much. Listening to the evangelism podcast today, our ministry is supported by people like you, who help us go to the nations to preach the gospel? Our goal is every soul. It only costs us an average of about $1 for every person. We’re able to tell about Jesus. And so could you do me a favor, go to my website, king ministries.com and become a partner with us for as little as $1 a month, you can start to partner with king ministries and help us lead at least one person to Jesus every single month. Imagine for $1, you can start a party in heaven every single month. So right now, go to king ministries.com and partner with us and help us to preach the gospel to those who need to hear the gospel. The most, the least reached people in the world. Also, I’d like to ask you to go to apple podcasts and give the evangelism podcast a five star review. Your positive review will help other people find this podcast who are excited about evangelism. Thank you so much. And God bless you
