Peter Kalagi | Uganda for Jesus

Evangelist Peter Kalagi from Uganda has been involved in extensive evangelism efforts across Uganda and other parts of Africa, including street preaching, feeding programs, and revival meetings. He had a powerful encounter with Jesus at the age of 14 that led him to pursue full-time ministry, though he initially resisted this calling. Peter Kalagi is now focused on a campaign called “I Am a Soul Winner”, seeking to inspire and equip more Ugandan believers to engage in evangelism and reach the lost.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (00:00):
Welcome to the Evangelism Podcast. I’m Daniel King. I’m excited about telling people about Jesus today. I have a very special guest with me, Peter from Uganda. And can you please say your last name?

Evangelist Peter Kalagi (00:13):
Peter Kalagi

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (00:15):
Okay. So tell me, what are you doing for God in Uganda?

Evangelist Peter Kalagi (00:21):
I do the work of evangelism.

(00:24):
I evangelize, we do quite a number of things. We do capacity building, we do street preaching, we do kids feeding, we do revival, prayer summits. And we recently, we started a fellowship in Ginger City where we have over 400 plus people come. We meet once a month, every second years of the month. And this is also a platform where God is redefining Destin of so many believers in the city of Jinja. And we believe that being that Jinja is where the source of the nano starts from Uganda, it goes all the way to Egypt. So I believe that there is a great move of, God is going to hit the entire continent of Africa, and God is changing the trend before, especially in Africa, we’ve been receiving the gospel from the Europe, from guys like you. They’ve been coming to Africa. And you remember that the Ledan bank said that Africa shall be saved. And I believe that God is raising missionaries from Africa to Europe now. So I believe that there is a great move of God that is hitting Uganda and it’s going to go across the continent of Africa. Yes sir.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (01:50):
And so tell me, how did you know that you were called to be an evangelist? What’s your testimony?

Evangelist Peter Kalagi (01:57):
My testimony at the age of 14, Jesus appeared to me. I was staying with my auntie from the side of my mom. I lost both my parents when I was young. I grew up with a strange, strange way. Life wasn’t that easy for me at all. I ended up being a houseboy in a family where I felt that they were going to take care of me. So Jesus appears to me at the age of 14, and I remember that entire night, the full night, like an overnight when I woke up, they told me, Peter, you’ve been praying the entire night. I’m like, I’ve been sleeping. No, we had you pray all night. And guess what? I was seeing a vision of Jesus. I was like, when? Every time I talk about it’s like it happened yesterday, five minutes back. So God called me in two minutes at the age of 14.

(02:54):
And that it’s one of the challenging moment for me because I didn’t want to go and do ministry. I didn’t want to just be in ministry. So after some time I started going to church, a local church. I was staying in a village called Kenya. That’s where I was raised up. So I started joining a local church, but later alone, I wanted to do business. So I quit the ministry staff. I’m like, I don’t want this stuff. Let me maybe make money. I supported Venice till 2016. You know what happened? I went to one of the Arab countries to make money. I almost died from that country. I won’t mention the name. I was poisoned. I repented and I told God, if you ever give me a chance, please, I will serve you the rest of my life.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (03:46):
So

Evangelist Peter Kalagi (03:47):
God saved me from those country countries. And then I went back to Uganda. Surprisingly, when I left Uganda and went to that country, by the time I came back, they had broke into the house where I was staying. I lost almost everything. I went back to zero. So I discovered that I cannot run away from the coal. I said, God, now you have me. What do you want me do? So he came me a ministry, which I’m running right now in G Center and G stands for Gospel Center. So through that ministry, we reaching out to the schools, reaching out to the community, to the slum areas where people are not willing to go. And even during Covid, I was moving from Uganda to Kenya, Tanzania, those countries I was doing evangels, even in Covid. So

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (04:36):
You’ve been evangelizing in many parts of Africa?

Evangelist Peter Kalagi (04:38):
Yeah, many parts of Africa.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (04:40):
Wow.

Evangelist Peter Kalagi (04:40):
Yeah, even Arab countries as well.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (04:44):
Wow. And what do you see God doing

Evangelist Peter Kalagi (04:50):
In these countries where I’ve been going?

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (04:52):
Yeah, share with me some testimonies of what God has done.

Evangelist Peter Kalagi (04:56):
I remember one of the scenarios when I was in Tanzania, I happened to preach in one of the churches and God connected me to a family. When you go, Jesus met this lady on the well. And the conversation went far and far. And then the lady discovered that this is a prophet. And then she went and brought other staff, other people to hear Jesus. So for me, when I was in Tanzania, I met a bishop. God connected us in a molecular way. So he went to his church, preached there, God performed miracles, signs, and wonders. And then I used to meet people and someone came for prayers. Well, we are praying. He said, Papa, pastor, can you pray for my mother? My mother lives in the us. I’m like, okay, no worries. So they call the mama in the us or when I was talking on the phone, I said, mama, I see you.

(05:56):
You are in Maryland. Say, how did you know? Yes, I’m in Maryland. I’m like, you even have twins. Instant word of knowledge. God has been giving you word, instant word of knowledge. You meet a person, you tell them they’re in the first name. And that has been opening doors for me. Most of the people that have been discouraged, wounded, abandoned, and God, just you bump into someone they don’t know, you speak to them and you give them word of knowledge and then they open up. So now, every time I go to Tanzania, that family hosts me because of that word of knowledge that

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (06:33):
Wow.

Evangelist Peter Kalagi (06:33):
Yeah.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (06:35):
What a great testimony. Now, just recently, Christ for All Nations came to Uganda and did a De Capitalis event, which is multiple

Evangelist Peter Kalagi (06:47):
Crusades

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (06:48):
In different cities. And so I teach every year at the Evangelism Bootcamp that Daniel Kalinda leads with the Christ world Nations. So many of the graduates from the Evangelism Bootcamp went to Uganda. I just finished doing a crusade in partnership with Christ for all nations in Congo. And while I was there, I was hearing so many stories of what God had done in Uganda, and they were just sharing so many testimonies. So I wanted to hear about the miracles and what you saw God do through the eyes of an evangelist from Uganda.

Evangelist Peter Kalagi (07:27):
Yeah. First and foremost, for the first time in history, Chan, they’ve been celebrating 50 years of adversely

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (07:35):
And

Evangelist Peter Kalagi (07:36):
In ministry and also,

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (07:38):
And their goal is to do 50 crusades all over Africa, from Cape Town to Cairo and Reinhard Bonky many years ago, had a vision of Africa, washed in the blood of Jesus. And so like you mentioned earlier, he said all of Africa should be saved. And so to celebrate 50 years, they’re doing 50 crusades this year. And how many took place in Uganda? There were quite a

Evangelist Peter Kalagi (08:03):
Few. 17.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (08:04):
17. Just in Uganda?

Evangelist Peter Kalagi (08:06):
Yeah, just in Uganda.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (08:06):
Wow.

Evangelist Peter Kalagi (08:07):
And it was first time. It was the first time to have such s happening. And Uganda being not like any other country, most of the areas we had distant were far five hours drive, six hours drive. They were not just closed to each

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (08:26):
Other.

Evangelist Peter Kalagi (08:27):
So the team, the standard coin, had to fly in these whole cities in order to accomplish

(08:36):
The assignment. So I’ll talk about the tremendous move of code that happened. First and foremost, the first engagement I was given because I knew Chan, but I never worked with them. And I have coordinated several events work of God in Uganda for other ministries in Kenya and Uganda. So a friend of mine that I went with on a mission in Kenya is the one who connects me, recommends my name to one of the senior directors of Chan. So they needed to have a father’s meeting, a father’s gathering in Kampala to meet all the fathers. And it, it’s not easy. Most we’ve been having challenges where fathers are crashing with one another. So I came on board, they had a list. I’m also come up with a list. So we started to strategize paying a cut service to each one of them. And surprisingly, by the grace of God for the first time in history, for the first time in history, to have all of them in one room, even those that were busy, they had to send their,

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (09:42):
It was a miracle.

Evangelist Peter Kalagi (09:43):
It was a miracle. Actually. One apostle greater apostle called me and said that, you know what, this is not even a miracle. It is awanda

(09:49):
Because they have never seen it. And that is one of the greatest move of SI that brought in Uganda. First of all, they brought reconciliation, they brought peace, love, and harmony in the board of Christ. And it went all over the news, pastors, bishops meeting in one place. So after that, God opened up the hearts of Ugandans and pastors, including the church of Uganda. And every denomination came on board, not for any other business, but for the souls and for the sake of the gospel. And I even the C can say this, for the first time we had the government, the statehouse being involved in the crusades, they offered, the statehouse offered transportation for Daniel Lander. They offered, they cleared the trucks, the VIP, the treatment, everything and the impact, even rain action. Let me say this. The guys who were serving as some of them were serving in the army. And what they have been promoted, yes, they’re been promoted to those who came to serve. Those who are moving with dk, they are promoted right now.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (11:08):
They saw what God was doing

Evangelist Peter Kalagi (11:11):
After two weeks, three weeks here, a guy in the news being promoted by the president. That’s an anointing that came with Chan. And not only that, the wind, there is a wind that has been growing all over Uganda whereby there is an awakening of evangelism. Every church, the pastors, the bishops, denominations have been a awakened to evangelize. You hear, everyone is talking about evangelism. You go now to Kampala, you go to every east, west, north, south. Everyone is talking about evangelism. There is a move and any hunger that cannot be moved, people they own fire to evangelize.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (11:53):
Wow.

Evangelist Peter Kalagi (11:54):
Yeah.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (11:55):
Wonderful. And so what do you see God doing? Lots of people were saved at the Christ for all nations. Crusades

Evangelist Peter Kalagi (12:02):
Over, I don’t want to give wrong, but over 200 plus.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (12:08):
Wow.

Evangelist Peter Kalagi (12:08):
Over 200 plus

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (12:10):
200.

Evangelist Peter Kalagi (12:11):
Yeah. 200,000,

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (12:12):
200,000. Yes. 200 is not very much, but 200,000. Praise the Lord.

Evangelist Peter Kalagi (12:17):
Yeah. 200,000 plus.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (12:19):
Wow.

Evangelist Peter Kalagi (12:20):
Because people came on, all crusades, people came.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (12:23):
Wow. So what role did you play? How did you get to help out?

Evangelist Peter Kalagi (12:28):
Surprising. I don’t know. Dunno how I can say this, but I was almost everywhere. I was almost everywhere. Everything that was happening in computer, we are stuck. Peter, the visa. My visa has linked, someone is coming at the airport. Peter, the police is not doing this, Peter. So for the first time in my life, I had never worked like that. And I wasn’t doing it for money. I wasn’t doing it for pay. People think that, oh, maybe I was paid money to do this. No, I am committed to the work of the Lord. And I made sure that the work of God moves on smoothly, even when my body was, because I reached a point when I was sick, I fall sick. I was on drips. But even the drip could not stop me to go and do ministry. Even when that’s how serious it was. I had to make sure God, Uganda, I was standing there for my country and for the sake of the gospel and for the sake of Africa because I ended up serving everywhere.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (13:32):
Wow.

Evangelist Peter Kalagi (13:33):
Yes sir.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (13:33):
And so even though you weren’t paid, God will reward you for that and he will give you great fruit in your ministry.

Evangelist Peter Kalagi (13:40):
Yeah.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (13:41):
Because that same anointing will come upon your life.

Evangelist Peter Kalagi (13:44):
Yeah. Yeah. Because why did I bring out that? Because most people, when they see big ministry coming, they think of money. They don’t think of winning souls. You get my point. So for me, I was, I’m fully persuaded and focused on winning the lost owe my energy because God is our great reward. You get my point? Because if I didn’t do that, I wouldn’t have met you because that’s the connection. You don’t know how many people have been calling me like, oh, you’ve been working with si. We saw you take this. And because God looked at my heart, it was pure. It wasn’t about anything.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (14:24):
Talk to me about the future. What visions and dreams has God put in your heart? What would you like to see God do through your ministry?

Evangelist Peter Kalagi (14:34):
First and foremost, in 20, in 21, when we are crossing, I think we are coming to 2022. God spoke to me to print out T-shirts written on. I am a solo winner. So we are running a campaign written called I Am a solo winner campaign. Like the book you’ve written?

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (14:59):
Yeah. I wrote a book called Soul Winner or Soul Winning. And we’ve given thousands of those books away all over the world. But just trying to stir up people to have a passion for soul winning. Yes.

Evangelist Peter Kalagi (15:10):
Now it’s almost the same because God told me, just do that. We’ve printed over 1065 T-shirts, those T-shirts. We go on the streets. We’ve given them out in Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Ethiopia, us and other countries. But God told me to print 20,000 of them.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (15:32):
Wow.

Evangelist Peter Kalagi (15:33):
So we do that. And people that have been shying away from winning the Lost, when they put on that T-shirt, someone just feel like, I want to go win a song. I want to go win a song. So we are running that campaign every day. I have a team of over 100 people, like guys that are ready that we do. We meet in Jinja, even other places. But mainly now I’m putting a base in Jinja because we started, we launched a fellowship there and on every before the fellowship on Monday, we go on the streets of Jinja. We cover over 17 streets with evangelism, solo winning, going to the streets and the churches joining. It’s a platform that brings everyone to go and win. The lost people are not settling, they are not just now focused on, they are small congregation. They want more to come because there is more. When we go out and we win them, they come to our churches. So that is one of the areas that God has called me. And by his grace, we are pushing on that. And then I am building leaders that are kingdom-minded people who are Kingdom-minded people are willing to go to Egypt. People are willing to go to Pakistan for the sake of the gospel. And this is going to happen in Uganda. God is going to use Ugandans to go to these Arab countries and Europe to bring a revival.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (17:10):
Amen. Well, if someone’s listening and has a heart for Uganda, how can they get in touch with you? What’s your website?

Evangelist Peter Kalagi (17:18):
The website is ww dot jeri center

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (17:27):
Com. You might have to spell Jeri. How do you spell

Evangelist Peter Kalagi (17:29):
It? Jeri. It is E-N-J-I-R-I-C. Center.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (17:41):

I just loved when you’ve been sharing with us, I just loved everything because there is an anointing of multiplication. Like we are deprecating ourselves in so many nations. And this is going to happen. You, you’ll be hearing testimonies upon Testimon. Why? Because God is raising an army that is going to go and win the lost.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (18:51):

Evangelism Podcast Host (00:31):
Jesus said, Go into all the world and preach the gospel. Everyone who calls in the name of the Lord shall be safe.

(00:42):
Welcome to the Evangelism Podcast with Dr. Daniel King, where Daniel interviews full-time evangelists, pastors, missionaries, and normal everyday Christians to discover how they share their faith, their powerful testimonies, and amazing stories that will inspire you to reach people with the good news. And now here’s your host, missionary, and evangelist, Daniel King.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (01:06):
Welcome to the Evangelism Podcast. I’m Daniel King, and I’m excited about telling people about Jesus. Today I have a very special guest with me, Jared Buswell, and he is with a great ministry called Favor International. Thank you so much for being on the Evangelism Podcast.

Jared Buswell (01:24):
Thank you, Daniel. It’s an honor to be

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (01:25):
Here. Now, our friendship goes back to when both of us were at Oral Roberts University. I graduated about 20 years ago, and we just recently reconnected at the U Homecoming. Yes. And I was hearing about all the amazing things that you are involved in ministry in Africa, and I’m so delighted to get to hear more about what you’re doing.

Jared Buswell (01:53):
Yes. Well, I’m excited to share. The Real stars and heroes are African missionaries, the indigenous missionaries who are led by God and compelled by the love of Christ to share the gospel with their neighbors and the far off places of the

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (02:07):
Earth. Let’s talk about Favor International. It’s actually a ministry that was founded by Carol Ward. Yes. And you are on the board of that ministry, and you’ve been very involved over the years in raising funding for the ministry and also helping to implement best practices for the ministry in Africa that takes place in Uganda and in South Sudan and other parts of Africa, which we’ll talk about. But kind of give me the quick synopsis of how the ministry got started with Carol Ward.

Jared Buswell (02:44):
Okay, yes. So we have the 32nd version, and we could do the 30 minute version as well. So in 30 seconds, there is a brutal demonic war in Northern Uganda. Started by, not started by, but continued, made famous by Joseph Coney and the Lord’s Resistance Army. The lra, as a lot of people know, up to or around 50,000 child soldiers were abducted, trained, and brutally traumatized to traumatize others. And this is a demonically motivated and inspired war, just a trolley on a choli. There’s no political sense to it whatsoever. There’s no political solution. The Uganda government can’t solve it. God solved that war a prayer, an organic prayer movement ended that war and favor of God ministries as it’s known locally, formed out of a house of prayer and a public prayer movement. During that time, from around 2002 is when they first started gathering at the House of Prayer.

(03:44):
By 2006, the war was over. A lot of events transpired in between. Then during that time also, a lot of people were moved by the spirit to bring the gospel into the prisons or into let’s start a school, or we need to care for these orphans who have no parents anymore. And so all these little different ministries just started out of a house of prayer. And without funds and without supplies. God divinely provided the ability for this small organic group of leaders to see the book of Acts open up and an organization was started. The Ugandans themselves said, Carol, you need to go back to the states and tell what God has done. And Carol had gone to sow her whole life and to stay permanently in Uganda. She did not want to go back, but God led her to go back and continue telling these stories that people in America wanted to start an organization. She said, Great, You do what you do here. I’ll go do what I do there, and we’re gonna see God’s kingdom come in as we’ll be done. So things got rolling and I came into the mix in about 2011.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (04:54):
Let’s talk a little bit about the importance of prayer, because this whole ministry really started as just a prayer meeting in a house, and now it is impacting that entire region of East Africa. So talk to me about the importance of laying a foundation and prayer and missions. Yes.

Jared Buswell (05:17):
So prayer and missions are absolutely essential together. I personally know this is, I personally know a many American missionaries who are well trained, called by God, equipped, financially supported, committed, who go with their whole families to live full time in a foreign context. And within two to three years, they’re back in the States having been beaten up by spiritual warfare and other things going on. And besides the lack of training in some of the spiritual warfare aspects of things, and this is all denominations, this is not a particular denomination I’m talking about, but prayer is laying our whole lives down before God and his will and seeing what he does through us. And when we’re entering into what God’s already doing, there’s a whole level of success there. Unless the Lord builds the house, we labor in vain and we really have to watch him build it. And so as we pray, we pray for his purposes, we pray for the people around us, we pray for situations, then we see God open those doors and unlock things that he wants to open up. And so it’s absolutely imperative for the Lord to be moving first before we go into the territory he’s already bought and purchased, and then we just go in and claim what he’s already won.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (06:43):
Now favor International has a variety of strategies for vo, both evangelism and for discipleship. You’re working in Uganda, you’re working in South Sudan, you’re sending out teams to other parts of Africa. So talk to me about some of the strategies that you’re using to both evangelize and disciple.

Jared Buswell (07:08):
Yes. So the main bread and butter Ministry of Favor is something called the Portable Bible School. And this comes from the inherent need in Africa for strong theological training for access to the word of God, but also knowledge as to how to use and apply the word of God to everyday situations such as raising your kids, maintaining a healthy marriage in addition to being a pastor, reaching the lost and training the next generation. So we bring in at least a minimum of two indigenous missionaries who live in a village full-time for two months and full-time Monday through Friday, nine to five. The students, the enrolled students are being trained in the Word and the ways of God. They’re all trained to be pastors. They’re all trained to be leaders. There’s no difference between the professionals and everybody else. We train everybody. And these villagers who would’ve had no access to a school, much less a theological education, maybe have never even seen a Bible in person graduate with their own Bible or an oral Bible if that’s required in their language.

(08:21):
And a healthy church is either revitalized or newly planted in that context, oftentimes multiple, if it’s near city, there may be multiple denominations coming together for this training. Our guys are intentionally nondenominational so that we can serve the local population in any language and in any denominational background that they’ve been exposed to in the past. But the kingdom of God comes in and there’s just revival in the city and the whole city life, the village life now centers around that healthy congregational planting. Now for the next several years, we follow up with longer term unique development. So our portable Bible schools are underneath a larger department ministry that we call Reap, R E E P, which stands for the Rural Evangelism and Empowerment Project. And so that REAP program encompasses the portable Bible schools, which are linked to other ministries such as women’s empowerment or church building, construction or adult literacy centered on the word of God.

(09:30):
So there’s many, many different ministries that have been moved by the spirit of God that are linked in strategic way in a long term transformation of a village. So we’re looking at changing a nation through transformed hearts, not just doing social aid. Everything is gospel centered. First and foremost, there has to be heart transformation, but heart transformation occurs best when the whole village transforms at the same time, when whole families enter the kingdom at the same time and pass on that heritage to their children and their children grow up knowing the kingdom of God from a young age.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (10:05):
And last year, how many of these portable Bible schools did you send out?

Jared Buswell (10:11):
Last year? We completed close to 150 portable Bible schools,

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (10:18):
And each one would have two people going and living in a village for at least two months.

Jared Buswell (10:23):
Two full-time missionary staff,

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (10:24):
Full two. But these are missionaries from Sudan or from Uganda? Yes, yes. And so you’re sending them out indigenous missionaries, they’re going into a village, two months living there and teaching every day?

Jared Buswell (10:36):
Yes, they are. In addition to additional teachers with specialty skills, whether in health or in marital counseling or other skills. So we have traveling teachers, and we do this all in strategic waves. So we have, it’s very complicated getting missionaries out to areas where there’s very little roads. We have to fly missionaries, different places. They’ve got to foot it walking, but the term they use is footing it over through the bush into a village, and we drop them off. So we might have a truck go, Okay, we’re made relationships with these four villages, we’re gonna drop you off, boom, boom, boom, boom. All your schools are gonna start at the same time and end at the same time. And we transport food, Bibles, diplomas, everything in a strategic and efficient way.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (11:21):
And talk to me about the evangelism component of what you’re doing. How are you evangelizing people who maybe from an animus background or up in Sudan, Muslims? Of course, yes. You have Sudan, <affirmative>, which is mm-hmm. <affirmative>, mostly Muslim, and then South Sudan, which has a higher percentage of Christians. How are you actually evangelizing?

Jared Buswell (11:45):
Yes. So the Africans themselves are bringing the gospel, and it happens in a multitude of ways. So a lot of times, sometimes our men go again based on prayer, based on the direction of the spirit. We need to go now to this specific village or tribe. So there’s that call from the Holy Spirit. Oftentimes we’re invited by the government, so we’re going into areas where there’s tribal warfare or there’s been Civil War or other kinds of strife. And the government has heard the reputation of this organization. And so they say, Hey, we’ve got this problem between this tribe and this tribe. Can your team come in and do something about it? Or it happens with the schools. The schools have to shut down because of a demonic manifestation of some disease or something. But it’s really demonic oppression, just really shutting down. The teachers can’t teach, so the government or businesses or schools call us to come in.

(12:45):
And so our missionary teams will bring in, just like Jesus, bring in healing the sick, restoring people to their right mind, and then proclaiming the gospel and teaching everywhere he went. And so our men and women, mostly men, are going around doing what Jesus did evangelizing first. And this just creates opportunities in open doors. Then we tell them that we have portable Bible schools that are free of cost. There’s no charge that can be followed up on, but that always follows up after an evangelistic event. We do crusades. There’s very successful and popular. We’ve got equipment to do that. We do smaller events, and so there’s different sizes of evangelistic events, but there is always some kind of evangelistic outreach. Or we’ll work with another ministry. If another ministry or another evangelist is coming through, we will partner up and provide the logistical support. And our men will provide a lot of that hands on and prayer support for God to have a successful event. The Gospels proclaimed people come to Christ, and it has to be immediately followed up with discipleship and training.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (14:04):
I’m Act actually very amazed at everything that favor International is doing. On the website, it talks about how you’re doing community development. You’ve got portable bible schools, trauma counseling, which because this area has gone through wars and a lot of attacks over the years, I I’m sure that’s very important. Yes, you’ve got the woman empowerment, church planning, church construction, and then in prayer of evangelism, you’ve got houses of prayer. You’re doing outreaches and crusades and then prayer mobilization. And then in education and discipleship, you have a primary school, you have a God’s Institute for Transformation Leadership Training Institute, then you’ve got radio ministries and Bible distributions, and then also economic empowerment where you’re doing agricultural business projects and retail and service business projects. So this is a multi-pronged ministry that’s doing and accomplishing a lot, and it takes a lot of resources to do something like that. So talk to me about the importance of sharing the vision with people and getting people involved financially in what is happening in Africa.

Jared Buswell (15:19):
Yes. So none of this happens without the power of God and without prayer and without practical fuel. Money is the fuel that went combined with the spirit and when combined with lives that are already laid down in love and in prayer to serve their fellow man, once you bring that whole combination together, then it’s explosive and great things happen and money is multiplied. So we see God take a hundred dollars, a thousand dollars, $10,000 and multiply it so many times over into so many lives changed and doors open, reputation protection. We have never lost a missionary due to violence in any of these spheres where we’re working. And so it’s just incredible to see that financial support. When I first started with favor, at one point I made a mind map, but I just was listening to all the things the team was doing. I hadn’t been to Africa yet, and I was talking with some of the African team virtually, and I was talking with Carol and I said to Carol one day, I said, Carol, there are at least 48 distinct ministries that Favor is doing. And we can’t, can’t talk to Americans about 48 different ministries

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (16:33):
Like pick one or two.

Jared Buswell (16:34):
We gotta pick a just one or two because for each, every time you talk to in honoring financial supporters and givers, it’s really important to have a clear business plan in place, written down a knowledge of if you were to fund this whole vision, what would happen? How long would it take, who would do it? Why does it work? Who’s accountable? And it’s just necessary to have a lot of pieces in place before you go talk to somebody and ask for financial support. So I said, Kara, we can’t ask for financial support for youth sports programs and for the medical clinics and for the radio station. And so after a lot of prayer and a lot of discussion for a long time, the team settled on let’s group everything into four broad categories. And so the REAP program that I described falls under the whole category of community development.

(17:34):
And our website reflects this. It’ll show what we do. We do four things. So we do community development, which is the whole outward push with holistic transformations. That includes evangelism, discipleship, and practical help. Again, that follows the transformation of the heart already. So this developing whole, transforming whole villages at a time is a community development. And that’s the outward push. Then what we call education discipleship are all the ministries that train and build up leaders from our home base. And what that looks like is we have schools, we have two home bases, one in Gulu, Northern Uganda where we started, and in Juba, South Sudan, which is the capital of South Sudan. So from those two headquarters, we have a school at each location, and we’re building a secondary school at each location. This was originally done to educate the orphans who were coming into our cares.

(18:32):
So other ministries that were either leaving the area because of the bullets or for a variety of reasons, were dropping kids off at our doorstep. And we didn’t have the financial support to just pay the tuition dollars at first to pay for these kids to get educated at other schools. So we quickly put our own schools together. And those are now, they’ve got 10, 15 years of history of great academic success and tons of stories. So we’ve got a school at each place. We’ve got a radio station at each, And this again came from the people, the heart of the people. So we’ve got Christian programming coming out of both Gulu, Uganda and South Sudan. The South Sudan station has boosters that are broadcasting and gospel even further out. And we’re hoping to get that daily programming all the way into Sudan proper, but through the airwaves.

(19:25):
So that’s been a long and powerful story to see God move in those areas. So that’s the education that education discipleship is the leadership development at home. We also have a leadership training institute, which is a university education that all our staff are required to go through. And now that’s open to the community as well for tuition to get professional kingdom based leadership training. So this is creating the next generation of leaders who then serve on the mission field and serve in the places of influence, whether in business or government or wherever God is gonna have them go. So that’s that. Another department, whole area is the prayer in evangelism. This is the fuel, this is the foundation of the whole ministry. So we have a house of prayer at each headquarters, but we have houses of prayer at most of the main hubs where our teams serve.

(20:13):
And this is what really blesses and protects all the work that God is doing. Our evangelism teams are housed within the prayer teams. So as far as the way the organization is structured, if you were to come onto favor i ntl.org and give a donation, and if you were to devote it to prayer and evangelism, that’s supporting that specific, those departments that work together on both the whole evangelism side and the prayer side. Our prayer teams are full-time prayer warriors who not only man the House of Prayer, which is always open, 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM every day to the whole community and is a non-denominational community focal point for everybody of all walks of life to come and hear the word of God, pray, worship, experience, healing, miracles, revival breaks out every once in a while and they have to expand into evening services. And again, that’s totally a gift to the community.

(21:10):
And the community uses it, and it does not compete with the local churches. So it’s a very beautiful thing that God’s doing. So it’s prayer and evangelism. And then the newest area of focus is the economic empowerment programs, which has been on our heart for a lot of years, but we’ve had to seek out the capital funding and those kind of things to get agricultural projects started and other businesses sewing and training. And that also provides vocational opportunities for all the young students who are our family, who are growing up under our care. So it all works together in an efficient system.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (21:41):
Let’s talk about the role that you play. I’ve been reading a lot of business books lately, and one book that’s really good is called Traction. It talks about how there’s visionaries and then there’s implementers. Absolutely. And visionaries tend to be all over the place. They’re just really good at communicating vision. And usually a ministry is founded by a visionary, somebody who’s got big vision. We’re gonna go, we’re gonna impact lives, we’re gonna change people’s lives. But then there needs to be an implementer to come in behind the visionary, to really put flesh on the bones and kind of show what it’s going to look like, and then developing the systems that maintain it over the long term. And just listening to you, I feel like you probably are more of the implementer type in helping to build the business plan. And so talk me through what you do and what that process has looked like for this ministry. This is

Jared Buswell (22:43):
A very important principle for ministry, business and families. And it’s very important for people to watch how God has designed us to serve, in particular capac particular roles and capacities. And this observation that the eos Executive Operating System traction system, author noticed that in business, in successful business, there’s often a case where you have a strong, strong visionary who finds an implementer, a strong, strong implementer, they find each other. An implementer without a visionary is very useless and vice versa. But when the pair of them are together, big things happen. So I have been an implementer to Carol’s visionary. I’ve used the term before. I learned this language. I’ve always seen myself as an anointing, amplification. So there’s this anointing on our founder

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (23:39):
That could be the spiritual lingo for what’s a business term? Anointing. Anointing, amplification. That’s

Jared Buswell (23:45):
What we’re doing. And so that’s the language I’ve used internally. But I wanna share this. This is important. When I, I think I was about 19 years old, I was attending church regularly under a very strong visionary pastor. And I remember the Lord talking to me. I am a visionary actually by nature and design. I am full of visions. I’ve had to at many times just kind of quell and put down that part of myself. But I’m getting ideas all the time and just brilliant, creative things. So I see all this visionary capacity. But I remember when I was young, the Lord told me strongly, He said, Jared, you need to learn to serve me in what I’m doing now. Yes, I’ve given you ideas. Yes, I’ve given you a calling, but I’m moving right now through this man, and I need you to serve this man’s vision.

(24:36):
And Carol is out there, and she’s devoted her life to serving. She has beautiful messages on serving another man’s vision. She’s out there serving the Africans visions, the African missionaries are on fire and supported in doing what God’s called them to do. So it’s really their vision that we’re all supporting, and we strongly communicate to the whole US team the importance of our hearts being genuinely devoted to serving the visions of our African brothers and sisters, many of whom we might not have the opportunity to meet, but we’re here to serve them. So I’ve been for the last 11 years, serving our founder, serving the people she’s serving, and I’m serving another man’s vision, and I love it. And I know I’m a visionary, but that’s for a later time where God is moving now. I need to serve there now. And I think we all need to do that. When we all get all hands on deck, then God will move mountains.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (25:33):
Well, I really admire you finding a place to serve. Jesus said, the greatest in the kingdom is the servant of all. And I think sometimes in ministries, everyone wants to be the figurehead, but some people are gifted by God to do what you’re doing, <affirmative> and to help implement the vision. And I think if we had more people willing to do that, we could accomplish a lot more for God. All right. So favor international. You mentioned the website once, but let’s just mention a gift someone wants to help to support what you’re doing or see more about what you’re doing in Africa. What is the website where they can find out more information?

Jared Buswell (26:18):
Yes, the website is www.favorinternational.org. And it’s shortened, F A V O R I N T l.org. If you type in the whole name, you’ll also, it’ll forward you to favor i ntl.org, but that’s our website.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (26:35):
Awesome. Well, Jared, thank you so much for being on the Evangelism Podcast. It was great having you here.

Jared Buswell (26:41):

And now here’s your host, missionary and evangelist Daniel King.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (01:07):
Welcome to the evangelism podcast. I’m Daniel King, and I’m excited about telling people about Jesus today. We have a very special guest with us, Mrs. Simone Puccinelli thank you so much for being on the evangelism podcast.

Simone Puccinelli (01:21):
Thank You for having me here. I’m very excited.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (01:24):
Simone has been a friend of our family for many years. I think we originally met you on a trip to Jamaica. Maybe we met your family.

Simone Puccinelli (01:36):
Okay. Yeah, I would probably have only been about like eight years old. So I don’t remember exactly. You’re

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (01:42):
Not ate eight any longer, but

Simone Puccinelli (01:43):
I don’t remember, you know what? Because me and your brother are about the same age. And I remember when we were like five or six, you came out to our house. Me and your brother were five and six years old. So I’m pretty sure I was pretty, I don’t remember our family not being friends. So,

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (02:02):
And you are a very impressive young lady because God put it on your heart to start a ministry, which is called Simone’s kids and you are helping children in the nation of Uganda. So tell me about that. How did you get interested in helping children in Uganda?

Simone Puccinelli (02:25):
Well Daniel, I was really as a child drawn to helping other kids in need. And when I would hear those stories, it was just something that my heart was really drawn to, to be compassionate towards. And when I was 12, actually got the call to be a missionary. And so I, you know, begged my parents to let me go on mission trips. And I actually went on a mission trip with you when I was in middle school to Haiti in the Dominican Republic.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (02:58):
I remember that trip to Haiti. That was a, a great crusade. Thousands of people came, but it was a very difficult trip. I remember that the food was horrible. It was hot. The living conditions were horrible. They told us that the, the chicken that we were eating, our marathon running chickens, it was like eating beef jerky. It was not like soft KFC chicken, ubut uyou went on the mission trip with us and

Simone Puccinelli (03:24):
I did, and we endured the heat and I was still a gymnast back there. So I got to do flips and make the whole crowd very excited. And I witnessed a lot of miracles firsthand and like that was hard, but, you know, I loved it. And so I went on more trips to Africa and just really got involved with learning from others how they do ministry, how it works logistically. And then in college, I got connected with a couple in Uganda through a connection that I did know, and basically they had been born and raised and were local people trying to help out the street, children in their community. And God just really laid it on my heart to help them. And so I went over there and saw the need and saw God’s heart and for the kids’ lives. And I saw the, you know, the enemy really coming in and trying to tell them that they were worthless and, you know, basically kill still and destroy their lives and just, I could not do it cuz God wanted, you know, God wanted me to do it. So that’s how it was birthed.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (04:38):
Now, when God first put it on your heart to give money, to help children in Uganda, how much were you able to raise like the first month that you tried to, to raise money?

Simone Puccinelli (04:51):
So the initial email conversations was around $500 to cover the rent for the building. So the school could stay open. The, the couple had started.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (05:02):
And at that time you were still a college student.

Simone Puccinelli (05:05):
I Was a sophomore in college.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (05:06):
And so raising $500 is phenomenal, is huge for a college student.

Simone Puccinelli (05:12):
It, so I would say it, it took me several months, three, three or three or four months. Yeah. Yeah.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (05:17):
And now the school has grown there. Many teachers you have over a thousand children now is that? Yeah.

Simone Puccinelli (05:26):
So when I got there, we were probably working with like 60 to 80. I didn’t get a official head count back then. And now we are working with over a thousand children

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (05:36):
And how many teachers are helping to teach the,

Simone Puccinelli (05:39):
We have 120 staff and they’re all local.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (05:42):
And where is Simone’s kids located in Uganda?

Simone Puccinelli (05:46):
It’s in the district of NA Coste. And so that’s really north of the capital central, the central ish area, but it’s in a remote village.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (05:57):
And so paint a picture for me. What does the ministry look like now there on the ground in Uganda now you started with just a, a little tiny school. Mm-Hmm <affirmative> but it’s growing. So, so just paint a picture for me. If someone was to visit your school, what would they see?

Simone Puccinelli (06:13):
Well, right now, if they visited to campus, they would fall find a primary classrooms and bathrooms that were big and nice and spacious for the students. A big, nice area for preparing food, a medical clinic, a library, a two story library. They would also find a high school with science labs and two giant dormitories. So the high school students actually live on campus and, you know, office buildings. And so we really kind of do like a holistic care for our students.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (06:50):
And how many teachers are there

Simone Puccinelli (06:53):
Specifically teachers? I think that’s around 70 to 80.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (06:58):
And so it starts 20 staff all the way from how, how old is the youngest and how, how far up the grades do you go?

Simone Puccinelli (07:06):
So we have three preschool grades. So we have a three year old class, four year old class and five year old class. And then it goes up through the high school, the way it works. It’s almost like an associate’s degree. So we’ll have, we’ll have up to the age of 20, 21 years old.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (07:20):
And so now some kids have gone through your program for, for many years mm-hmm <affirmative> and are you helping to put them into a university and, and get fully educated?

Simone Puccinelli (07:31):
So the past three years or so, we’ve been building a like university fund and putting money aside for that. And we have 21 students in, in college.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (07:41):
Wow. And so this is growing by, by leaps and bounds and has really been through your, your faith and effort and just sharing the vision with people to, to help the, the kids in Uganda. What is it that really motivates you to do all of this for the kids Uganda?

Simone Puccinelli (08:02):
To me and my, why is that? I truly believe that everyone deserves to understand and feel loved. And the, the most important love to feel is Jesus Christ loved. So <affirmative> creating an avenue and that’s what the school is for our child to be able to like for us to reach that child cuz we serve orphan and extremely poor children. And so if the teachers and the staff and myself can be that light of love and make that connect and with someone that has never actually experienced love, cuz you know, most of them like have been abandoned or their parents died. And so they’re outcast in society. And so they really are depleted of that experience. So my why is just for one more child to get to experience loved being

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (08:58):
Loved, which is such a, a great method for evangelism. This is the evangelism podcast. And so we’re always talking about different ways of, of reaching people, but really it comes down to loving people. Mm-Hmm, <affirmative> wanting to show the love of Jesus to people. And have you seen some results in the, the lives of the kids? Are they serving the Lord

Simone Puccinelli (09:21):
<Laugh> yes. I, I have one personal experience of when we got to be there on the ground for two months of seeing this child, having like the depleted look versus the like bright look. And you could just tell all the difference of a child that’s loved and unloved and this child actually ended up passing away around the age of six. So I can’t really give a testimony that they’re like grown and serving the Lord, but there’s so many students that like come back and are just like, you know, so thankful that for their experience at our school and receiving, you know, that guidance. And so yes, I would say they are being transformed

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (10:03):
And your school has really become a light for the entire community. You’re mm-hmm, <affirmative>, you’re impacting more than the, just the children’s lives. You’re also able to have a positive impact on the, the parents, a community. And you really believe that it takes a whole village to raise a child. Tell, tell me what you mean by that.

Simone Puccinelli (10:26):
Yes. So Simone’s kids, we have a, a giving program and we, we call that group the village because we believe it takes a village to raise a child. And so we, we believe that also on, you know, on the ground in Uganda and the fact that we, we need the teachers, if we need the guardians and anyone in, in their lives pouring into their lives to create, you know, a, a good result in that child’s life. And to give them a chance to actually break out a of that poverty cycle and not just give an amount that, you know, helps them survive through this time. We want to give them the tools that they’re gonna need as an adult to find a good spouse, to be a good spouse, to be a good parent, to, you know, be a good employee or, you know, be ethical business person if they start a good job. So we’re are really thinking about their future and what we can put in their lives today to, to help them succeed tomorrow. And but the way people, you know, stateside and around the world can get involved and, and be a part of that impact is, is joining the village for us because

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (11:35):
So if someone is listening right now and they want to be involved and to help you help these children in Uganda, how can they be involved? What they can, they do to be a part,

Simone Puccinelli (11:47):
Well, become a part of the village <laugh> so, you know the village, we really see as true partners and them doing the work. So if someone has a heart for children in need and want to do that work and wanna make that part of their life story, they can join us and becoming a part of the village, giving, you know, a at $25 a month and be supporting the children in this, in this journey they have. And the recurring giving is, is so important because it doesn’t just say like, I’m gonna give to this cause, or I’m gonna give to evangelism. And this one time recurring giving says, I, this is what I want to be a part of my life story. I want my life story to be like, you know, I, I was caring for orphans. That was part of my life journey. A one time gift is good, but recurring gifts say, this is what I want to be a part of my,

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (12:53):
Yeah, this is pure religion to care for widows and orphans. And so by caring for these kids, you’re actually doing what is so close to the heart of God. And so I want to encourage you, if you’re listening, go to Simone’s kids.org, mm-hmm <affirmative> S om, O N EES Simone’s kids.org and become a partner join with Simone and helping these children in the nation of Uganda. This is good ground. Our family yeah. Have been good friends for, for many years. And, and I’ve been watching Simone over the years build up this vision and, and it’s just so many amazing to see what God is doing through you. Let, let’s talk a little bit about the, the personal side of mm-hmm <affirmative> being a missionary and being in ministry not only are you helping to run Simone’s kids, right. But you’re also a wife, you’re a mother, right. You have two little children who you’re respons for. And so what is that like balancing, running a ministry, very successful ministry, and also being a wife and a parent.

Simone Puccinelli (14:05):
I believe it’s really about just spending time in prayer and looking at what obedience looks like for your life. And then God giving grace and providing and doing work where you can’t do the work. So because I also suffer with chronic illness. And so sometimes God calls me to rest, or God calls me to be at home with, you know a child. And so it looks like I’m not then being able to like 40 hard hours a week, but then, you know, God supplements, you know, the gifts and the time and multiplies what I do do as it. And then, so like, I don’t have to put in the 40 hours or doesn’t have to look like what the world thinks it needs to look like. And so to me, putting my family first, putting God first, like spending time with him is the most important, not like not putting any idols before him that meaning, you know, my time and my conveniences and then putting my family and then the ministry God takes care of, you know, what, what’s his, and ultimately it’s, it’s his ministry and he’s allowing me graciously to steward it here on this earth.

Simone Puccinelli (15:26):
And so I just, every, every time there’s a life change or maybe I’m sick for a week. We may get like a $10,000 donation and I may have made 30 phone calls and not raised any money. So really God, <laugh> you say, balancing all this, God just keeps taking me back probably where he takes most people of like, do you trust me? Do you trust me? Do you trust me? And is really hard place? You know, I feel like my whole life God wants me to just trust him and have faith in him and his plan. And just through every, you know, like my husband is trying, you know, gone through this, going to med school and we’ve had to, you know, have faith and trust of where he’s gonna be a resident. And if he’s gonna get to the next step and with both children, they were both through adoptions is having to have faith for him to build our family. And just faith for him to take care of the ministry. And yeah, I have to have a lot of faith. <Laugh>

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (16:29):
Well, you’ve taken what God has given you, this, this small vision mm-hmm, <affirmative> of helping a small group of kids and it’s growing and growing and growing. Yeah. And now you have a big vision impacting over a thousand kids every single day in, in Uganda. What’s the, the vision for the future. I know you have some more projects that God’s put it on your heart. What, what do you see happening in the future for Simone’s kids?

Simone Puccinelli (16:57):
Well, we have a campaign going on called big vision, big impact. And so we’re looking at prosing 50 to a hundred acres and using that to build out a state ofthe art high school state, ofthe art vocation in school and taking our current campus, which is about 10 acre, eight to 10 acres, and doubling the size of our primary school. And so being able to have 600 students instead of 300 students at the primary school, and then at the high school, just making it, making it a better experience for the, and being able to, instead of having a big, large dorm for 300 boys to live in, building out maybe homes of 12 boys per home, and getting like fam you know, mentor families in there to take them through the four years of high school, more being able to focus more on discipleship and one on one pouring into their lives. And so we’re looking at that being like a 300, 3.5 million project,

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (18:00):
Well, that requires some, some big faith, but I believe God will provide right. And you’ll be able to do all that and, and even more. And I, I really believe that what you’re doing is so significant because these children that you’re training you’re, you’re, you’re training them in the things of God you’re imparting Christian principles into their lives. You’re, you’re speaking life into them in, into a, a situation where often there is poverty, where, where is no hope you’re, you’re bringing hope. Mm-Hmm, <affirmative> in the midst of this, this situation. And I believe that out of your school, God is going to raise up students that will be future leaders in the nation of Uganda that could someday be president of Uganda. We always

Simone Puccinelli (18:47):
Say, we’re raising the next president. That’s our, what, that’s what we speak over our skull. <Laugh>

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (18:53):
Yeah,

Simone Puccinelli (18:53):
We blame

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (18:54):
It. Amen. And, and I think it will happen like, like you’re, you’re giving them top-notch education, helping them mm-hmm <affirmative>, but also giving them the, the spiritual component so that they can be close to God and to have that, that spiritual relationship with God.

Simone Puccinelli (19:10):
And, and one thing like, you know, evangelism, one thing that we really do at the high school is also teach evangelism and, and teach them how to be missionaries. And so there’s teams that go to the prisons, the local prisons, and do skits and pray for them. And then we have teams that go on like a monthly basis to different hospitals and go and pray for all the sick and see healings, and really just kind of try to encourage them to go to even deeper villages. So you know, we live in a remote village, but there is even deeper levels of remote villages where, you know, it’s only a mut huts, you know, there isn’t even access to get power. Like we, we work with families that don’t have electricity or running waters or run room houses, but there’s like places where that they wouldn’t even have access to connect to something like that. You know? So there’s, there’s deeper levels. And, you know, just, you know, when I go over there and then able to like share with we just really encourage them that, you know, they’re local and they’re Ugandan and missionaries from other countries and, and evangelists from other countries are great, but they can make that connection deeper than we can being from that country. If they’re willing to be missionaries to their own country.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (20:30):
I, I really feel like the holy Spirit’s giving me a vision right now of your school being a light and shining light throughout Uganda, but even to the surrounding nations mm-hmm <affirmative> and in areas that God’s gonna raise up, even kids that will be missionaries out of your school, that will go to Southern Sudan, which in many ways is even poor than Uganda is and scarier and, and Rwanda and Congo and Kenya and Tanzania. I mean, there there’s so much that God wants to do in that part of Africa and even up into Northern Africa. So you’ve got South Sudan, but then you’ve got north Sudan, which is mostly Muslim all the way up to Egypt. That entire region desperately needs the gospel. They, they need the hope of Jesus Christ. And, and so I, I just feel like the holy spirit is giving me a vision of your school shining light to that entire region of Africa.

Simone Puccinelli (21:33):
That’s amazing.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (21:35):
And so I

Simone Puccinelli (21:35):
That’s really encouraging.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (21:37):
Amen. So I encourage you Simone, keep up the good work. Thank you. God’s hand is on you and I believe the, your best days are still to come. God has more for you. And so if you’re listening and you want to help the children of Uganda, if you wanna help educate them, you want to help feed them right now, go to Simone’s kids.org. Mm-Hmm, <affirmative> find out more about Simone. You can find out some information about her and about the ministry. See some pictures of the beautiful kids. They’re so beautiful. Yeah. And they’ve got such beautiful face. I mean, they’re, they’re so good looking in, in that part of Uganda. And, and so go to the website, Simone kids.org, and find out how you can be involved. You can support them, even there’s possibilities of going over there on trips, even looking for people who have a heart for teaching to go and teach. And so there’s lots of ways that you can be involved in helping the children in Uganda.

Simone Puccinelli (22:30):
We’re even looking for full-time missionary stuff.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (22:33):
<Laugh> yeah. So

Simone Puccinelli (22:34):
There’s, that’s their call. I won’t call me <laugh>.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (22:37):
All right. Well, thank you so much, Simone, for being on the evangelism podcast. It was great having you here today.

Simone Puccinelli (22:42):
Thank you so much, Daniel.

Evangelism Podcast Host (00:40):
Welcome to the evangelism podcast with Dr. Daniel King, where Daniel interviews, full-time evangelists, pastors, missionaries, and normal everyday Christians to discover how they share their faith, their powerful testimonies and amazing stories that will inspire you to reach people with the good news. And now here’s your host mission evangelist Daniel King.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (01:04):
Welcome to the Evangelism Podcast. I’m Daniel King and I’m excited about telling people about Jesus today. I have a very special guest with me evangelist. Suli Akoteu from Tongo in the south Pacific. Thank you for joining me today.

Suli Akoteu (01:21):
Thank you. Thank I give you Daniel. It’s a privilege and order.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (01:24):
So we are in Ethiopia. Yes. We have just completed a big crusade. Yes. In Ambo, Ethiopia. Yes. And you came yes. All the way from Uganda where you’re a missionary to participate in this crusade. What did you think about what God did this week?

Suli Akoteu (01:42):
It was so powerful. It’s like, it’s, it’s unexplainable seeing the move of God, not only more salvation, but we have seen the miracle and sign and healing, all those accompany, the, the, the starvations of the people I’m. So still not yet really kind of seeing how the Lord was doing in humble.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (02:08):
Now this is actually the, the second time that you’ve come to Ethiopia to have a crusade with us. And the first time actually, there was a big problem. The crusade was scheduled, right. When COVID was for, are starting exactly in 24 hours before I was scheduled to get on the plane to come to Ethiopia. Yes. We had to cancel the crusade because the nation of Ethiopia said that no large gatherings were allowed. We, we, we literally could not even get into the country because there was a 14 day quarantine. Yes. But you were all already here in the country. You had come to the crusade. Yes. Two weeks early. Yes. In order to go into preach in the marketplaces and invite people to come to the crusade and, and, and you ended up getting stuck here in Ethiopia. And what was that like? Getting stuck in Ethiopia?

Suli Akoteu (03:01):
My goodness. Do explain that one is also unexplainable because come all the way from the small island con in the south Pacific to being with my family in Uganda. And that is the first time for me to experience crossing the port. And everything’s just closed down. We will rush from, from, to come to the airport, but everything is too late. I remember just in the hotel, like talking to my wife, my wife said, SU the power is off. Our vehicle is not even running. And then the water stop. I, I just went, I don’t know how to explain, but all I know that the one that he called me here to just to preach in albumin, he’s the one who’s going to look after my family. I just feel somehow very difficult to to, to, to cope with. But I know the one that he’s calling me, he’s promise that I will be with you even to the end.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (04:01):
So you are from Toga, but you are serving God as a missionary in Uganda. And so when you came to Ethiopia, Uganda actually closed the doors for people to go back into the nation, cuz they were so worried about COVID. So you got stuck here, not just for a week or, or two, but for several months, the crusade was in March. And then April, may you were still stuck here in Ethiopia at the time your wife was pregnant. Exactly. With twins. Yes. You didn’t know it. You already had five kids, but, but you, she was pregnant with twins and you were worried whether you would get back in time for your wife giving birth. And so you really made a great sacrifice to come to that crusade. And I want to say, thank you so much for your dedication in, in your faith that you would come back a second time after a, a horrible experience like that. So it it’s so great having you here this week and this week you’ve been so amazing. You you’ve taken steel bars and bent them in half as an illustration. Tell me, what does that mean when you break the steel bar in, into U shape?

Suli Akoteu (05:19):
Every, every power feed that we are using that has a message behind. So when, anytime that we are making pending the eye on bar, we just demonstrating that we are in a prison, but we always used to tell people the prisons of sin, only one person can set you free from the prisons of sin is Jesus Christ. So that’s why we used to pan in our head sometimes in our ti sometimes is our nose, but we just, that how the things that we are doing, we just spend it just to demonstrate court’s power.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (05:49):
And so you are a member of team extreme? Yes. A ministry that’s led by Kevin Stark. Yes. And both of you are YWAM missionaries. Yes. But how did that happen? That you from the nation of Tonga became a YWAM missionary in Uganda? How did that happen?

Suli Akoteu (06:12):
Let me go back a little bit to the, the beginning I was, I was joining YWAM in 98, 19 98. In 2000, I was doing the school of front mission. We do church planning in the west Africa the nation called Kana. So I worked there for four years and after four years, the Lord spoke to me. I have to go and top the program of team X him, because one day I was walking into the market and I saw one man doing his witchcraft and I see the way how he draw a crowd to himself. And then I just felt wrongly. The Lord said, go back, go back and join the team extreme. And then you adopt that strategies come with it to Africa. So I did 2007, the, the beginning of 2007, I have to went back Toma to the worm, Toma little did I know one person there with the wife, they already established the pioneer, the team extreme.

Suli Akoteu (07:06):
That is how, and then in two they do 2010. So I took a team to Uganda, purposely to stay in Uganda for a life. Me and my wife. We have no kitchen that time, but we have a problem with our visa. Only seven months. They just, they tell us to just leave the country. So we went back to Toma. I was thinking maybe I will not come back to Africa, but inside me, I still feel that the law just put a patent on me. You have to go back to Africa. So in 2018, that’s where we pray. And we feel the Lord just called us to work in Uganda. Since then we were here serving with my family there in Uganda, in Wawa.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (07:49):
And tell me about the ministry that you do in Uganda. What type of ministry are you engaged in and, and what type of miracles are you seeing God do in the nation of Uganda?

Suli Akoteu (08:00):
Actually I Uganda the ministry that I’m leading there, I’m leading the Evangel, combined with the team extreme in Wawa, Uganda Cland. So we are working there. I’m leading the evangelism. We used to go to prison. I have seen creating miracle and God using this strategies to show to the prison, how value are them and all the things that just take place. When we are in there, we used to go to prisons. We go to hospital, we go to street and we also move from village to village, just running seminar, teaching the people on the evangelism, the church member, those who have potential for the evangelism we teach, we take them out. We do evangelism. And then we also running crusade in that community. Yeah, that is what we, we have seen. We, we see a lot of young people. They have the passion to move on and continue telling Jesus about others. And we also seeing miracle, also healing in the church. This is a great need in the church, in new Uganda. And also we are responsible in our wild base. Hosting teams come from different places. Some from us, Hawaii, some from Germany, some from Egypt, some all over the world. We are, the people also are facilitate them as moving together with us doing the same thing of winning soldier, the kingdom. That is what, the things that we are doing in new Uganda.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (09:21):
The other day, I heard you share your testimony. It was so powerful. How you came to Jesus. Te tell me a little bit about what God did in your life to, to help bring you to the cross.

Suli Akoteu (09:34):
Very, very awful. I share my T my testimony. I was growing up in a Christian family. My parents, they always go to church, their, their preacher. My, my mother was a prayer warrior. I was thinking that I also, I I’m safe. So I always attending church activities. But little did I know when I was growing up, they took me to our school, our Methodist school in our country. One day, I I’m very good in rugby. So I’m, I’m be part of the team rugby. And then in 1998,

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (10:04):
I’ll bet that if someone’s facing you under rugby field, they run in the opposite direction. Yes,

Suli Akoteu (10:10):
I amazing. So I, because of that, I like rugby and I know this is a talented God lesbian with, so we represent donga in 19 90, 80, there was a world school championship that was held in, in Al Zimbabwe. This is my first time in Africa. And that is the kind of encounter. Even on that time, I haven’t experienced having the relationship with God, but I was having an encounter one day. They took us in a bus to assume. And then when I looked down, I saw a old lady putting a firewood on the head. When I looked down, I just, I don’t know. I now, I, I, when I, now I can, maybe this is the holy spirit. It just afford, or maybe a voice saying Sui, I am going to bring you back to Africa. So just things dismiss. I went back to Donna and one day I remember in 97, I heard a missionary told me that God still speak my father, my mother, and all the pastor in the school where I was attend.

Suli Akoteu (11:09):
They never said this, that God still speak this days. So, because of that, I met a missionary, told I know a school, they were teaching how to hear the voice of court. And then I joined because I wanted to hear the voice of court. I wanted to affirm this one that I hear in Zimbabwe. Is it true or not? So I have to attend in a school called discipleship training school in YWAM. That is where I joined YWAM. And I said, I want to hear God. And the staff told me, so the only way for you to hear the voice of God is for you to have a personal relationship with Jesus. So I remember 25th of September 1998. I was knee down in that house and I raised my hand and I said, Jesus, come into me, my heart and be my Lord. And my master from today, I will follow you since that, that time I work, I follow Jesus until now.

Suli Akoteu (12:04):
And then when 2000 there is a school called school for, from mission. They train missionary. So they, I was attending the train. And when they trained, the teacher came to us and said, you choose this free nation, pun, India, or CIP in Micronesia or Canada in his Africa. I told them I will not, I, I’m not going to pray again, because I remember when God spoke to me in Saint a boys in Zimbabwe, I will bring you back to Africa. And I just, I, they agree. And then I went to Uganda, to Canada, work in Ghana, and then from Ghana compared to, to, I took a team there. So now I’m in Uganda. That is how the Lord just changed my life. And then I have seen how God using me to Uganda in Uganda.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (12:53):
Yeah. I’m so amazed that God has brought you from Tonga to be a missionary in Uganda, because a Tonga is not a wealthy nation as wealthy as, as maybe like America would be. And, and so sometimes people from nations like Tonga might think, well, never become a missionary. I, I don’t know how God would provide for me to go to another country and, and live in another country. But, you know, God can use anyone from any nation and he can make a way, and God is the, the provider. But can you tell me what has that experience been like coming from a nation like Uganda, having a big for family seven children now. Yes. And your wife it takes a big step of faith to, to launch out and to become a missionary. How have you seen God provide for you over the years?

Suli Akoteu (13:46):
It was so powerful. I always talk with Kevin stuck my, my boss in the team extreme. And he said, this kind of, of a weakness of you guys from the island, you feel ashamed to share what the Lord, what, what, what is your need and what you do because you, you know I just, I’m, I’m, I’m very confident to say that God, in his own way, he speak to people and send money to us in Uganda. I am saying in the presence of God, we are so amazed. And before we came to Uganda, you know I have a courage to tell the people of Uganda to challenge them. Don is a fat world. Uganda is a fat world. That world label, as we are poor, look at me and my, my family, you guys call us a white people. We are not white people.

Suli Akoteu (14:34):
We are the same. Like you, we are coming here to do the work of what you can do the same thing to move from out from Canada, from Uganda. So I just to cut it, that explanation short, the Lord will provide in his own way. Even now my wife call me there’s are people just calling them? They just show what I’m doing here in Ethiopia. And they just send money. We never ask. We never even share with them that we need money. They just the Lord in his own ways. And he keep his promise. Sometimes the people said, you, you, you are lying. How can you survive with your seven children here in yo, Uganda? And you come from con both of you are both the local con. So just God himself provide.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (15:22):
So what advice would you give to someone who maybe is, is living in a, a poor country where, where they don’t have very many resources, but they feel a call from God that they want to be used by God. They, they maybe even want to go to another nation to become an evangelist or a, a missionary. What advice would you give to someone who feels called by God, but maybe comes from a nation with not many resources?

Suli Akoteu (15:50):
I think for me, is that important. You need to hear from the, the Lord, because in, we, we wire him, the first things we teach, we need to hear the voice of God. Because if you want to go anywhere, you have to hear from him. If God himself speak to you to go to another country and he himself will responsible for what you want. Ali, for example, before I came here, I have 12 local yo Uganda, that I work with them, all of them know support. They don’t have any money. I remember very well. We were fasting and praying and they said, Suly, we don’t even some of them, they’re not even paid their six month. Some of them, they in five. So they’re all old. They don’t, they don’t know where the money come from. I told them let’s come let’s you guys come, we are going to pray.

Suli Akoteu (16:40):
And we are going to seek the vision of God. When we pray the Lord, give us the word from the book of second colonial chapter 20, the, the story of, of see ho when the, the army of army night and more by they come to attack them, they will never even ask help. They just call the country to come together. They pray and fast and ask the Lord for help. The Lord says, yes, the fight as house of heart, because you do the right things. I, this battle is not yours. It’s mine. So they position themself, praise in God. When they reach to the, the pedal field, they only see that they demand. So I told them my guys let’s come six to seven every morning, four times a week in a week, we are going to praise only praise God, Daniel.

Suli Akoteu (17:33):
We do it. Start Tuesday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, the Lord clear up. And now I come here, they went to the, in the lake, Victoria in Uganda, there is 250 islands. They went there with a visions of why I’m called to end by poverty. They went there, distribute pipes. And the same time they do eventually, and also go to school. So this is what my advice, my advice here, the word of the Lord. And if God tell you to do, he will direct you to do what he wants you to do. Maybe he wants you to do raising. Maybe he wants you to write the letter and say, are your need with some people that you are going to collect. But if the Lord says praise and worship and wait, the, the fight is for me, don’t waste your time. Just do what God tell you do to pass what the fire is in you. No one will stop you.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (18:27):
That’s awesome. Yes. Well Suly thank you so much for being on the evangelism podcast. I am so happy to know an evangelist from the island of PGA, and it’s so exciting to see what God is is doing through your ministry. And I’m so grateful that you’ve come to be with us here in Ethiopia this week, the Lord bless you and your ministry.

Suli Akoteu (18:48):
Hallelujah. Thank you very much. I am really honor, just to be part of the Daniel King ministry. I have learned from you. I have learned from Kevin, I’ve learned from each other, the team, and I feel that I’m growing what, the things that I already experience with my small ministry in yo Uganda, my takeaway from this door, it will power. And I want to say, thank you very much for allowing God or you, or also for you inviting me to be part of this tour. I have seen that great move of God and just motivate me and elevating my spirit to continue winning soul in yo Uganda, to the kingdom of God. God bless you.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (19:28):
Thanks so much for listening to the evangelism podcast. I am excited about telling people about Jesus and we could not preach the gospel without your help. Over our years of ministry, we found that we’re able to reach one person for Jesus, for every dollar that people give us. And so that means that if you would give us $1, we could start a party in heaven. In fact, I’m asking people to join our partnership program and give at least $1 every single month to help us to lead more people to Jesus. This is the greatest investment of your dollar that you can make. It’s the only investment that is gonna matter 10,000 years from now. Uganda

During our recent Gospel Festivals in Uganda we saw a total of 14,918 precious people fill out decision cards for salvation! I am sure all the angels were partying for days because of this epic harvest of souls.

During our time in Uganda, we did two five-day Gospel Festivals and two five-day pastor’s conferences. Thank you for helping us lead people to Jesus and equip local leaders. Now I want to share a story that will strengthen you.

Stay Away from Sin

Our festival in Kihihi was thirteen hours away from the capital. To get there we had to drive on narrow mountain dirt roads. On our right was a hill and on the left was a steep cliff.

Our driver’s name was Jack. He was a good driver, but he tried to prove how good he was by recklessly driving too fast. He kept driving closer and closer to the cliff. I asked him, “Jack, why are you driving so close to the edge?” He replied, “I am trying to avoid a rut over here.” I countered, “But, Jack, there is a very big rut on this other side that goes straight down for a thousand feet.”

As we were going up one side of the ravine, we met a huge truck coming down the other side. There was not enough room for both vehicles, so Jack started to back up. He backed closer and closer to the edge. Our team members in the back of the bus started to shout, “Jack, stop! You are going to fall off.” Jack kept backing up. The girls yelled louder, “Jack, STOP!” But, Jack did not stop. Finally, Jessica opened the side door of the van and everyone piled out. When we went around to the back of the van, his rear tire was within two inches of disaster.

I was inspired by this near tragedy to share an illustration at our pastor’s conference about the dangers of sin. I said, “Once upon a time, there was a bus owner who wanted to hire a bus driver. Three men applied for the job and the owner took each of them for a test drive. The first man decided to show how good he was at driving and drove within one foot of the edge of a cliff. The second man was even more of a daredevil, he drove within an inch of the edge. The third driver proved he was a good driver by staying as far away from edge as possible.”

I explained the spiritual parallel, “Some people try to get as close to sin as possible without falling but as men and women of God, we should stay as far away from the devil as we possibly can.”

I finished by asking the pastors, “Who do you think the bus owner hired?” All the pastors replied by shouting, “The third driver.” I looked over at Jack our bus driver, and he was sitting there holding up two fingers!

I encourage you today: Stay as far away from the danger of sin as you can.
