The Parachute

Main Idea: Without Christ, we are in great danger

Key Verse: “…put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lust.” (Romans 13:14 NKJV).

Illustration: Imagine you are sitting on a plane. Suddenly, the pilot makes an announcement. He says, “This plane is about to crash. Under your seat, there is a parachute. Please put it on immediately and get ready to jump out of the plane.”

You have a choice. Do you chose to believe the pilot or do you chose to do nothing? The news about the plane crashing is bad news. But the news there is a way to be saved is very good news.

Today, I have some bad news for you. Without Jesus, you will suffer eternal death and be separated from God forever. This is because of the Law of Sin. When you break God’s law, you deserve to suffer the consequences of breaking His law. The Law of Gravity will make you fall from a plane and the Law of Sin will cause you to be eternally separated from God.

But, I also have some good news for you. There is a way for you to be saved. There is a parachute that can save your life. His name is Jesus. But, you must trust Him for salvation. If you do not put on your parachute, you will surely die.

Some people try to save themselves through their own efforts. This is like jumping out of a plane and trying to fly by flapping your arms. You cannot save yourself, but you can be saved if you trust in Jesus.

When you put on a parachute,  you can be saved from falling. In the same way, you must “put on the Lord Jesus Christ” and He will save you from sin.
