Main Idea: If you call on Jesus, He will answer you.
Text: “Then they came to Jericho. As Jesus and his disciples, together with a large crowd, were leaving the city, a blind man, Bartimaeus (which means “son of Timaeus”), was sitting by the roadside begging. When he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to shout, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” Many rebuked him and told him to be quiet, but he shouted all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!” Jesus stopped and said, “Call him.” So they called to the blind man, “Cheer up! On your feet! He’s calling you.” Throwing his cloak aside, he jumped to his feet and came to Jesus.“What do you want me to do for you?” Jesus asked him. The blind man said, “Rabbi, I want to see.” “Go,” said Jesus, “your faith has healed you.” Immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus along the road” (Mark 10:46-52 NIV).
Introduction: Once there was a man who was completely blind but one day he heard that Jesus was passing by. He made a decision to call out to Jesus for help.
I. The blind man called on Jesus.
A. The blind man was a beggar named Bartimaeus who lived in great need.
1. Bartimaeus means “Son of Timaeus.”
2. He did not even have his own name, he was simply known as the blind “son of his father.”
3. Every day he sat beside the road and cried out for money.
B. The blind man heard about Jesus.
1. When Jesus entered Jericho, He healed another blind man (See Luke 18:35).
2. Bartimaeus heard the testimony of how Jesus healed a blind man and now he wants his miracle.
3. Have you heard about Jesus?
4. When you hear about Jesus, your life is going to change.
C. The blind man cried out to Jesus.
1. He called, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!”
2. Do you need God’s mercy?
3. Will you cry out to Jesus today?
D. Some people told Bartimaeus to be quiet but he shouted even louder.
1. Some people will try to stop you from crying out for a miracle.
2. Some people will tell you to stop calling for Jesus.
3. Will you be quiet, or will you shout the name of Jesus louder?
E. Jesus heard his cry.
1. Jesus stopped when He heard the man’s cry.
2. Jesus has stopped here today because He has heard your cry.
II. The blind man acted in faith.
A. The blind man threw his coat away.
1. The coat was a special coat that labeled him as a beggar.
2. By throwing the coat away, the man demonstrated his faith in Jesus.
B. The blind man jumped to his feet and came to Jesus.
III. The blind man specified his need.
A. Jesus asked him “What do you want me to do for you?”
1. The blind man could have asked for some money or a new coat.
2. The blind man asked for his sight.
D. What are you asking Jesus for?
1. Do you want Jesus to heal you?
2. Do you want Jesus to save you?
IV. The blind man received his miracle.
A. Jesus said, “Your faith has healed you.”
B. The man was completely healed.
C. When you put your faith in Jesus, expect a miracle.
V. The healed man followed Jesus.
A. The man could have rushed off to see his family or to go sightseeing.
B. The man decided to follow Jesus!
C. Will you decide to follow Jesus today?
