Main Idea: You may think you’re good until you compare yourself to God’s holy standard.
Key Verse: “Jesus answered. “No one is good—except God alone” (Mark 10:18 NIV).
Illustration: Are you a good person? Many people might say “Yes, I am a good person because I never murdered anyone like those despicable criminals who get locked up in prison.” But when we compare our sinfulness to God’s perfection, we are all imperfect.
Imagine a sheep. When you see it against a green background eating grass the sheep looks clean. But when you see the same sheep walking in the snow it looks completely dirty. What changed? The background you were comparing the sheep to changed.
In the same way, if you compare yourself to a genocidal murderer like Hitler, you look good. But if you are judged by God’s holy standards you look completely unclean.
