Sin is a Trap

Main Idea: Sin is a trap that will be attractive at first but will slowly ensnare you. Before long it is too late to escape.

Key Verse: “Evildoers are snared by their own sin, but the righteous shout for joy and are glad” (Proverbs 29:6 NIV).

Illustration: A farmer wanted control over a bunch of wild pigs. He put out corn for the pigs to eat and instead of foraging, the pigs came to the farmer’s trough. Each day the farmer put out food and then, one day, the farmer put up one side of a pen.

He continued to feed the pigs and each day the farmer would put up another section of the pen. Finally, he added a gate and while the pigs were eating he closed the gate. Suddenly, the pigs were trapped.

They had forgotten how to forage and fend for themselves and were now completely dependent on the farmer.  Not long after losing their freedom in exchange for free stuff and convenience, the pigs disappeared one by one onto the plate of the farmer. That’s the story of how free pigs became bacon.
