Once upon a time there was an elephant and a mouse who were best friends. And everywhere the elephant went, the mouse would sit right on his head and they would go on an adventure together. Well, one day they’re walking through the jungle and they see a wooden bridge that’s crossing a creek. And the elephant said, I’m not sure if that bridge is strong enough to hold my weight. And the mouse says, we can do it. Let’s go for it. So the elephant goes out on this shaky wooden bridge, and as they’re crossing the bridge, the the bridge is shaken. It’s going all over the place, and the elephant very gingerly, makes it over to the other side of the bank. And then the mouse said to the elephant, wow, we sure did make that bridge shake, didn’t we? Well, the truth is that the mouse didn’t really do very much to make the bridge shake. And that’s how it is when we go out witnessing, sometimes we’re like the mouse, but Jesus is like the elephant. And together us working with God, we can really make the world shake for the kingdom of God. And so you may have a very small part to play, but remember that Jesus is like a big elephant. He is strong and he is powerful, and he can make the world shake. And so you and Jesus together can change the world for eternity.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (00:48):
When I was 15 years old, I was reading a book about how to be a success in life. And one of the things that this book said is that young people, if they wanna be a success, they should write down their goals. And one of the goals that they said would be good for young people is to try to become a millionaire by the age of 30 to make a million dollars. So would you like to be a millionaire by the age of 30? Or maybe you’re over 30, maybe by the age of 60, maybe by the age of 90. Well, I realized that because of my upbringing as a missionary in the country of Mexico, that money was not what was important to me. What was important was souls. And so at the age of 15, I wrote down on a sheet of paper, I, Daniel King want to lead 1 million people to Jesus before I turned 30 years of age.
(01:36):
Instead of trying to become a millionaire, I wanted to lead a million heirs into the kingdom of God to become a soul millionaire. And so I set that goal and then God started to open up doors for me. I was still a student at the university. When I got to do my first international crusade, it was in the nation of Honduras. In one week, we ministered to over 43,000 people. And then the next year, God opened the door for me to do two crusades and then more crusades. And I’m excited to tell you that by the time I was 30 years old, we had completed the goal of leading a million people to Jesus. And so now we have seen over 2 million people come to Jesus in our ministry. And just recently I was praying, I was asking God and saying, what comes next? And I felt like God gave me a goal.
(02:28):
He said, go for a million souls every single year. Now, in the natural, reaching a million people in a single year is impossible. But when things are impossible with man, they are possible with God. And with God, all things are possible. And so I tell you that story not to impress you, but to make you start to think what is your soul winning goal? How many people do you want to lead to Jesus? I have one friend and he set a goal to talk to at least one person about Jesus every single day of his life. And so every single day he looks for that person that he can share the gospel with. He travels a lot. And so he’s always on planes. He’s always going, uh, into new stores and new places. And he says, God, give me at least one person every single day that I can share the gospel with. And so what is your goal right now? I want you to take out a pen and a paper and ask the Holy Spirit to give you a goal that you can do. How many people do you wanna reach this week, this month, this year, in your lifetime? Set a goal for how many souls you want to bring to Jesus. And I believe that as you set that goal, God will give you the desires of your heart and you will begin to see opportunities to share your faith.

And now here’s your host, missionary, and evangelist Daniel King.
Evangelism Coach Daniel King (00:50):
One way I like to share the gospel is by using the three circles method of evangelism. So I made up these little stickers and I printed them out. And often when I do a workshop, I’ll ask people to put the sticker on the back of their cell phone so that everywhere they go, they can have this little illustration of how to be saved right there on the back of their phone. And they can share the gospel with people when they’re standing in line at the coffee shop. Well, let me tell you how to share the gospel using this simple illustration. The heart means that God loves you and he has a wonderful plan for your life. But many people have run away from God’s plan. And when we run away from God’s plan, this is called sin. And sin leads to a life that is broken.
(01:41):
This little squiggly line here represents a life that is broken by sin. And when people’s lives are broken, they begin to look for a way to bring change to their lives. And some people think, if I can have a relationship with a cute guy or cute girl, then I’ll be happy. But the problem is when two broken people are in a relationship, the relationship is also broken. Other people think that if I study lots of books and I get lots of degrees, then I’ll be happy. But even people that have gone to the university and and they’re really smart, often they are still miserable. Other people think, if I can make lots of money, I can buy happiness. But the problem is that even rich people often have lives that are very broken. And these people, they’re looking for change. The Bible has a word for change.
(02:30):
The Bible word for change is repent. And you’ll notice here, there’s a a person kneeling down and crying out to God in repentance. They are asking God to help them change their life. And then this third circle is what I call the gospel circle. The word gospel is a simple Bible word that simply means good news. And so this is the good news of how Jesus can save you from your brokenness. Jesus, the Son of God came from heaven to earth. He died on the cross to pay the price for our sins, but he didn’t stay dead. After three days, Jesus rose from the dead, and now he’s the king of the universe and he wants to be the king of your heart. And the Bible says that everyone who calls on Jesus will be saved. And so this person has their arms up in the air and they’re calling out and saying, Jesus, save me. If you’ll call on Jesus right now, he will bring you back to God’s perfect plan for your life.

And now here’s your host, missionary and evangelist Daniel King.
Evangelism Coach Daniel King (00:50):
If someone called you and said, what do I need to do to be saved? What would you say to them? Well, if I had the opportunity to answer that question, I would invite that person to come to a coffee shop and I would take them through the Romans road. The Romans road is a pathway of several different scriptures in the book of Romans that can tell us how we can be saved. And so what I’ve done is I’ve taken my Bible and I’ve highlighted each of these verses in my Bible. And then in the margin next to the highlighted verse, I wrote the reference of the next step on the Romans road. And so right now, I’d encourage you to get out your Bible and as I go through this, highlight the verses, and then each step you can write the verse that goes to the next step.
(01:46):
All right, so the first step on the Romans road is talking about the reality of sin. And that is found in Romans three, verse 23, which says, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. This tells us that every single person on earth has done so that is wrong. Sin means to miss the mark. It means to fall short of perfection. And so none of us have lived a perfect life. All of us have made mistakes. And because of this, all of us need a savior. That brings us to the second step on the Romans road, which is the cost of sin that’s found in Romans 6 23. And so right here in the margin I, on Romans 3 23, I put the little verse, Romans 6 23, I turn over here and in Romans 6 23, it says, the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus, our Lord, because of the sin and the mistakes we’ve made.
(02:56):
We deserve to be eternally separated from God, but Jesus died on the cross to pay the price for our sins. We deserve to be punished for our sins, but Jesus died to pay the price for us. And that brings us to the next step on the Romans road, which is the payment for sin, which is found in Romans chapter five, verse eight. And so I flip backwards one chapter and Romans five, eight says, but God demonstrates his own love towards us in that wow, we were still sinners. Christ died for us. And so while we were still sitting, while we were living in the midst of our rebellion towards God, Christ died on our behalf so that we could be saved. That brings us to the fourth stop on the Romans road, which is the way to salvation. And this is found in Romans 10, verses nine and 10, which say that if you confess with your mouth, Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised in from the dead, you will be saved.
(04:13):
For it is with your heart that you believe in are justified and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved. And then I take them right down to Romans 10, verse 13, which is the favorite verse of every evangelist. It says that whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved. So the way to be saved is to confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus, and to believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead. And so often people will lead someone in a salvation prayer and give them some words to say, to call out on the name of Jesus. And some people have said that they don’t really like salvation prayers, that it’s not biblical. But I wanna tell you, it is biblical right here. It says that everyone who calls in the name of Jesus will be saved.
(05:05):
I think salvation is very simple and it’s easy. If you were driving along a cliff and you fell off the cliff, if you called out Jesus before you hit the bottom, you could be saved just by calling on Jesus. That brings us to the fifth step on the Romans road, which is the results of salvation. And that’s found in Romans five verse one which says, therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. And so when we get saved, suddenly we are at peace with God. We have been justified by our faith. That means that we have been made right with God, which brings us to the sixth stop on the Romans road, which gives us the benefit of salvation. In Romans eight verse one, it says, therefore, there is now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.
(06:12):
And then the seventh stop on the Romans road is the assurance of salvation that you can know for sure, for sure, beyond a shadow of a doubt that you really are saved. Romans 8 38 and 39 says, but I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus, our Lord. And so do you want to follow the Romans road to salvation? You can do it right now. Just say, Jesus, I believe that I am a sinner and I repent of my sins Right now, I believe that Jesus died on the cross to pay the price for my sins. And I believe Jesus rose from the dead. And today I ask Jesus to be the Lord of my life. Jesus give me an assurance of salvation so that I know for sure that I am going to heaven. Amen.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (00:52):
My parents became missionaries in the country of Mexico when I was only 10 years old. And since they were my legal guardians, I had to go with them In Mexico. We did a bunch of children’s ministry. And one day my dad said, let’s do a drama about the life of Jesus. He said, Daniel, I want you to play the part of Jesus. And I thought that was a good idea because Jesus was perfect and I was almost perfect. And so my sister Esther, she pretended to be crippled and she would drag her foot up and then Jesus would lay hands on her and suddenly she could dance. And then my other sister, melody, she pretended to be blind and she’d come up and she would go like this and, and Jesus would spit on the ground, make some mud. But before I could even touch her eyes, she was already healed.
(01:41):
And then my father said, now we’re going to crucify Jesus. And suddenly I didn’t wanna be Jesus any longer, but my younger brother, Steven, he loved this drama because as the older brother, I’d always beat up on Stephen. But in this drama, he was the Roman soldier and he got to beat up on Jesus. And so he’d bring a big long leather whip, he’d grab me by the arm, he’d dragged me right up the center aisle of the church, and he’d beat me with that whip. And I gotta be honest with you, I think he overact a little bit. And then one day my brother went to my father and said, dad, I don’t think this drama is realistic enough. We need some blood. And my dad thought that was a good idea. So Steven brought a big bottle of ketchup and he put ketchup all over the whip.
(02:33):
And then when he whipped me with it, it looked like blood covered my back. It was worse than the movie, the passion of the Christ. And then he would crucify me to the cross. And I remember hanging there on the cross with all the sticky ketchup on my back. And every fly in Mexico was attracted to the ketchup on my back. And I’d always tell my dad, I’d say, dad, it’s very difficult to hang on the cross. Could you please preach quickly? But my father, like many preachers did not know how to preach quickly. And so he’d start in the first book of the Bible, Genesis and preach all the way through the last book of the Bible appendix. He’d preach the entire thing, and I’d be hanging there on the cross, the ketchup up on my back, flies crawling up and down. And I would begin to pray.
(03:25):
I would say, God, forgive my father for he knows not what he does. And then I would die. And one time there was a little kid, he wanted to see if Jesus was really dead or not. So he came up and he started tickling the bottom of my feet. I’m telling you, I suffered for the sake of the cross. Jesus said, take up your cross and follow me. Well, I did that literally. But the amazing thing is, is that the same messages we used to preach to 10, 20, 30 children at a time in Mexico today, God allows me to preach to 10,000, 20,000, 30,000 people at a time. You see, if you’re faithful with the small things, God will place you in charge of many things. And so if you want to be effective in witnessing to people, just start small. Find one person, one child that you can share the gospel with. And then as you are faithful to communicate the good news about Jesus, God will use you and you will be able to bring many people to Jesus.

I was 14 years old when I had the opportunity to go on a mission trip to the nation of Jamaica. And so we went running through the neighborhoods of Montego Bay, passing out fliers and inviting people to come to our mini crusade that we were having that night. Well, Jamaica is very hot and humid, so by the end of the service, we were hot, we were tired, we, we were exhausted. All we wanted to do was to go back to the hotel, take a shower and fall into bed. But when we arrived at the hotel, there was a big problem. For some reason, all the water in the hotel had been shut off. But someone in the group was a smart missionary, and they said, well, let’s just go down to the swimming pool and we’ll wash in the swimming pool. And so that’s what we do.
(01:40):
We took our shampoo, our soap, we went down to the swimming pool, and we were washing off in the swimming pool. And as we were playing around, I noticed that off on the edge of the pool, there was a panel that was smoking, and there were some sparks coming out to of it. And I thought to myself, panels are not supposed to smoke. And so very foolishly, I swam over to investigate this smoking panel. And as I’m looking at it, suddenly the light that was under the water, it shocked my leg and it scared me because you can die from electricity. And so immediately this whole side of my body went numb. I managed to pull myself up out of the pool and I, I walked away dragging my leg, and I immediately began thinking God, saying, thank you God, so much for saving me.
(02:34):
And I was six steps away from the pool. Suddenly I remembered that all of my friends were still in the swimming pool, and immediately I became very concerned for their safety. I rushed back over to the swimming pool and I started yelling at them and said, guys, guys, get outta the pool. Get outta the pool. And of course, they were all teenagers. They said, Daniel’s just playing a practical joke. But I was serious. I said, guys, get outta the pool. If you stay in the pool, you’re going to die. It shocked me. You can die if you stay in the pool. And so finally, some of them were convinced they, they got outta the pool. And then I started grabbing people by the hair and physically trying to pull them out of the pool. And finally they realized how serious I was. And everyone got out of the pool.
(03:22):
And thank God no one died that day in the swimming pool. And right then God spoke to me and said, Daniel, you need to have the same passion saving people from hell as you showed saving your friends from the swimming pool, you see a lot of people, they get saved and they walk away saying, thank you, God for saving me. But they forget that there is a world full of people who are dying and going to hell. And so thank God that you are saved, but let’s not forget about all the other people that need Jesus. Someone said one time that Christianity is like one starving man who found bread going and telling all the other starving men where they can find bread. And so thank God that you have found the bread of life. Now take the bread of life and go give it to other people who are hungry. God bless you.

Several years ago, my family had the opportunity to visit Carlsbad Caverns. It’s one of the greatest natural wonders in the world. It’s a huge cave system in the American state of New Mexico. And so Carlsbad Caverns has this massive cave mouth where lots of bats fly out at nighttime and you can walk down into the cave. And as we began to walk down into the cave, the guide told us stories about the original explorers of this cave. They were extremely brave men and women who would explore using nothing but a tiny candlelight. And when we got to the bottom of the cave, it was over one mile underground. The guide told us that she wanted to show us the conditions that the original explorers exper experience. And so she had us all sit down on some benches and then she walked over to the light switch and she turned out the lights.
(01:54):
And suddenly it was dark. It was so dark I couldn’t see my hand in front of my face. It was so dark I couldn’t see the person next to me, total incomplete darkness. And she let us sit that way for a few minutes so that our eyes could adjust to the darkness. And then she reached her pocket and she pulled out a simple cigarette lighter. Now, when she said that she was gonna light the cigarette lighter, I thought to myself, this darkness is so thick that that tiny cigarette lighter is not going to make much of a difference. But when she lit the cigarette lighter, suddenly we could see the entire cave. We could see the stites, we could see the stalagmites. I could see all the people in that group. The cave was a very dark cave, but all it took was one light to light up the dark cave.
(02:51):
The world is a very dark place, but all it takes is one light to light up a dark world. In Matthew five, verse 16, Jesus said, let your light so shine before men that they may see your good works and glorify your Father who is in heaven. You are called by God to be a shining light in the midst of great darkness. As you look around the world today, you can see a lot of darkness. There’s a lot of problems with crime, with racism, with drugs, with parents and and kids that are having trouble with one another, with marriages that are going through all kinds of problems where people are angry, one with with another. There is a lot of darkness in the world, but all it takes is one light to light up a dark world. One proverbs said one time, don’t curse the darkness when you can light a candle. A lot of people spend a lot of time complaining about all the problems that exist in the world today, but instead of complaining, I think we should go find someone who’s living in darkness and be the light of Jesus in their lives. Jesus says, I am the light of the world. And when Jesus is living inside of you, his light will shine out through your eyes into the lives of others. And so I encourage you to be a shining light in the midst of great darkness.

And now, here’s your host, missionary and evangelist Daniel King.
Evangelism Coach Daniel King (00:52):
Do you wanna be a master soul winner? You know, the greatest soul winner who ever lived is Jesus Christ. And so I think we should can learn some important lessons from his life that will help us to become effective at sharing the gospel with others. So if you have your Bible, go ahead and open it up to John chapter four. And let’s look at Jesus’ encounter with the Samaritan woman. And by looking at her story, I think we can pull some principles out of this story that will help us to be better at sharing our faith with others. And so John chapter four, verse four, it says, now Jesus had to go through Samaria. So he came to a town in Samaria called Sychar. Near the plot of ground, Jacob had given to his son Joseph Jacob’s well was there and Jesus tired as he was from the journey, sat down by the, well, it was about the sixth hour.
(01:54):
And so in, uh, Bible times they started at sunrise and counted the first hour from sunrise, like 6:00 AM to 7:00 AM That’d be the first hour, 7:00 AM to 8:00 AM that’d be the second hour. So the sixth hour means that it was noontime. The sun was high in the sky. Jesus was tired from the journey. He sat down by the, well, he sends his disciples into the town to buy some food. And then this woman comes, verse seven, it says, when a Samaritan woman came to draw water, Jesus said to her, will you give me a drink? His disciples had gone into the town to buy food. All right. So this is the first step to leading someone to God is to start a conversation. Jesus started a conversation with this woman. He was a man, she was a woman. Back in those days, men did not speak to strange women.
(02:57):
He was a teacher, he was somebody important. Uh, this woman was a, a sinner woman, but yet Jesus was willing to start a conversation with her. And I think that we need to be willing to start conversations with the people around us. Now, I, I find it difficult sometimes to start conversations. I I’m introverted, uh, in my personality, uh, but my wife, Jessica, she can start conversations very easily. We’ll go to the store and there’ll be a, a woman there who’s a, a clerk at the store, and she’ll just strike up a conversation and say, does this dress look good on me? And, and after five minutes, they’re talking like they have known each other for 20 years. But I find it difficult. So I find that I have to step outside my circle of comfort and step into the lives of people around me who, who need Jesus.
(03:55):
All right? So the first thing you need to do is to start a conversation. And then verse uh, nine, the Samaritan woman said to Jesus, you are a Jew and I am a Samaritan woman. How can you ask me for a drink for Jews? Do not associate with Samaritans. Jesus answered her. If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asked you for a drink, you would’ve asked him and he would’ve given you living water. So now Jesus turns the conversation towards spiritual things. And this is the second step to leading someone to Jesus, is to turn the conversation towards God. And so you start the conversation by talking about the weather, talking about sports, talking about something that you have going on, but then in every conversation, you look for a way to turn the conversation towards God. One time I was, uh, out on the street and someone says, Hey man, can you gimme a light?
(04:53):
I said, no, I can’t give you a light, but I’ll tell you about Jesus. He’s the light of the world. What, what did I do? I turned the conversation towards God. Or one time I was on an airplane and a guy came down the aisle and he said, excuse me, sir, is this seat next to you saved? I said, no, that seat’s not saved, but I can tell you how you can be saved. And so what was I doing? I was turning the conversation towards God. So in every conversation you have an opportunity to talk about Jesus. You know, one time I sat down next to a, a grandma and she pulled out her wallet and started showing me the pictures of her 14 grandkids. And she had stories talking about her grandkids. Why was grandma talking about her grandkids? Because her grandkids were important to her.
(05:36):
Another time I was talking to a guy who was he, he was into cars, and he had some old cars that he was restoring and, and he was telling me all about his cars. Why was that guy talking about the cars? It’s because cars are what was important to you. And so if Jesus is important to you, then you’re going to talk about Jesus. If you can imagine a water balloon filled with water and you prick the water balloon, what’s gonna come out of the water balloon? Well, water’s gonna come pouring out. And so if you’re full of Jesus and you start talking to someone, Jesus should come out of you. And so first you start a conversation, then you look for a way to turn the conversation towards God. Then the woman said to him, sir, give me this water so that I won’t get thirsty and have to keep coming here to draw water.
(06:26):
Jesus said to her, go call your husband and come back. And she says, I have no husband. Then Jesus said to her, you’re right when you said that you have no husband. The fact is you had five husbands, and the man you are with now is not your husband. What you have just said is quite true, sir. The woman said, I can see that you are a prophet. So Jesus had never met this woman before. He didn’t know anything about her, but he used a gift of the Holy Spirit in order to minister to her. And he received the, the word of knowledge for this woman. He had never met her, but suddenly the Holy Spirit told him this, this woman has had five husbands. The man she’s living with is not her husband. And so this is the third step to leading someone to Jesus, is to listen to the Holy Spirit.
(07:20):
You may not know what to say to the person you’re witnessing to, but if you’ll listen to the Holy Spirit, the Holy Spirit will put words in your mouth and he will help you to minister to the person that you are talking to. And so I always try to take a step back from the horizontal conversation, and I I go vertical and I start listening to the Holy Spirit and say, holy Spirit, what do you want me to say to this person? Because every person is different. Now look what happens next. The woman says, our father’s worshiped on this mountain, but you Jews claim that the place where we must worship is in Jerusalem. She tries to start a spiritual argument with Jesus. Has that ever happened to you? Has anyone ever tried to start a spiritual argument with you? You start witnessing to them and, and they want to start talking a a and and arguing about something.
(08:20):
One time I was in California and we are going door to door talking to people about Jesus, and we knocked on on one door, and this woman came to the door and she says, she immediately started cussing at us when she heard that we were from a church. She says, I’m, I’m an atheist. I don’t believe in any of that God stuff. And so we started talking and I asked the Holy Spirit, I said, holy Spirit, you’re gonna have to help me in ministering to this woman. She has these barriers and walls that have been built up against the things of God. And, uh, I, I felt prompted by the Holy Spirit to ask her about her children. And she had a picture on the wall there of a son and daughter. And, and I just a asked her a question about her, her kids, and she started telling me about them.
(09:06):
And it turned out that her son was in major trouble at school. He was being rebellious, and her daughter was a little bit younger and, and she was starting to have problems. And, and she says, man, my kids, they need prayer. And so right there, I said, well, let’s pray right now. And so this atheist woman, she asked me to pray for her kids. And it was because I listened to the Holy Spirit and asked her a question about her kids. And so we prayed together. And while I had her by the hand, I said, Hey, could we pray to ask Jesus to be the Lord of your life? And so I was able to minister to that woman. Well, when people try to start a spiritual argument, notice that Jesus doesn’t really start a spiritual argument with his lady. He doesn’t tell her she’s wrong.
(09:51):
He just says that God is spirit in his worshipers, must worship in spirit and in truth. And so he doesn’t condemn the lady. He doesn’t say that she’s wrong. He just loves her. And so this is the fourth step to leading people to Jesus is to love people. Someone said that people don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care. And now when it comes to spiritual arguments, I’m the type of guy I like to argue. I’m intellectual. I’ve studied a lot of apologetics books and, and, and so sometimes I, I like to start throwing out facts and get into an argument. But I’ve discovered that you can win an argument and lose a soul. And so our goal is not to win arguments. Our goal is to win souls. And I discovered this when I got married to my wife, Jessica.
(10:44):
We’ve been married 16 years now in, in the early years of our marriage, we would have a discussion and she would say something that I thought was wrong, and I’d immediately start pointing out where she was wrong in the discussion. And, and I found that I could win the argument and prove to her that I was right, but it would end up hurting our marriage. And so my goal in the marriage is not to win arguments. My goal is to show love to my wife. And the same is true when we’re ministering to people. We’re not trying to win an argument. We’re trying to show them the love of Jesus. And so even when they cuss you out, even when they say something that, that you can’t stand, you don’t need to argue with them. You just keep being kind to them, being loving to them and keep pointing them back to the truth of God’s word.
(11:35):
All right? The woman said, I know that Messiah called Christ is coming. When he comes, he will explain everything to us. Then Jesus declared, I who speak to you am He. Jesus revealed himself to this woman. And this is the last step to leading people to God, is to reveal Jesus. Jesus said, if I be lifted up, I will draw all men onto me. And so when I go and preach in other nations, I don’t say anything negative about their local religion or their local prophet or holy man. I just point people to Jesus. I tell people, this is what Jesus did in Bible times. Then I’ll share some stories of what Jesus has done in the lives of other people. I’ll share some stories of what Jesus has done in my life, and then I’ll say, and this is what Jesus can do for you.
(12:24):
And my goal is to make Jesus look irresistible. When we lift up Jesus, it draws people to God. As Christians, you might not be perfect, but you serve a perfect savior. And so sometimes people get in a fight trying to defend Christianity. Well, Christians have made lots of mistakes, but Jesus never made a mistake. And so then the disciples of Jesus, they came back and they were surprised to find that he was talking to this woman. And what’s sad is that these 12 disciples had met this woman on the way into this city. None of them brought the woman back to Jesus. But here she is, she’s talking to Jesus, and her life is changed. Look what happens. It says, then leaving her water jar, the woman went back to the town and said to the people, come see a man who told me everything I ever did.
(13:23):
Could this be the Christ? And they came out of the town and made their way towards him. And it says, many of the Samaritans from that town believed in him because of the woman’s testimony. He told me everything I ever did. So when the Samaritans came to him, they urged him to stay with him. And he stayed two days. And because of his words, many more became believers. And so these 12 disciples, these 12 professional preachers, they had gone into the city, they’d passed the woman on the way when they were in this city, they saw a blind man. They knew that Jesus healed the blind, but they didn’t bring the blind man back to Jesus. They saw a crippled guy over sitting against the wall. They knew Jesus healed the cripples, but they didn’t bring the crippled man back to Jesus. And so Jesus gets a little bit upset at them and says, guys, don’t you say four more months.
(14:11):
And then the harvest, I tell you, open your eyes and look at the harvest field. This woman, she was a sinner woman. She’d had five husbands. The man she was living with was not her husband. She was in the at the well in the middle of the day all by herself. And back then, all the women would go to the well early in the morning when it was cool, and they would all go to the well together. Just like today, all the women go to the bathroom together. Back then, they’d all go to the well together. Well, here, this woman, she’s been rejected by so many people. She’s stolen half the husband’s in the village, and she’s at the well all by herself. But Jesus changes her life and she goes, and she’s able to lead the entire village back to Jesus. And so this tells me that if we can reach just one person for Jesus, potentially we could reach their entire group of friends, their whole family, maybe even their entire city for Jesus. And so if you’ll follow these five steps, you will be better at sharing your faith with others. Number one,
(15:13):
Start a conversation. Number two, turn the conversation towards God. Number three, listen to the Holy Spirit. Number four, love people. And number five, reveal Jesus. If you’ll follow those five steps, then God will use you to reach many people for his glory.

Evangelism is a big word and frequently people do not know what the word means. In the Christian space, we often use big words that can be difficult to actually understand in their entirety. Words like sanctification, justification, or propitiation aren’t exactly used in our everyday language, but they are important to understand as they relate to Christianity. We’re going to be taking a look at one of these words and see what it truly means in the context of our Christian lives. So, what is evangelism?
Evangelism, at its core, is the act of spreading the gospel or the good news of Jesus Christ. The gospel is the message that our self-destructive sin separates us from God and that in order for us to be reconciled back to God, Jesus, the Son of God, was born as a human, lived a perfect life for 33 years on this earth, and died on a cross to take the punishment for our sins. Three days later, He rose again from the grave, defeating death, and paving a path for us to also have divine life for eternity through Him.
Evangelism is communicating this good news to others. Since this is good news and it has the power to save people’s souls, we shouldn’t keep it a secret. In fact, Jesus, before He ascended back to heaven, gave us a mission to take this message to the entire world so that everyone might have life. Technically, He was charging us to evangelize to the entire world.
Interestingly enough, you may notice that within the word ‘evangelism’ is the word ‘angel’. Whether this was intentional or not, it adds another layer of understanding to the word since in the Bible, angels act as God’s messengers. Throughout the Bible, we see many instances of God sending a message to certain humans through an angel. Similarly, we now act as God’s messengers for the gospel of Jesus Christ. We are to go to people and deliver God’s message of truth, grace, and abundant life for now and all eternity.
Some people may wonder if evangelism is a must or if only certain people are called to evangelize. After all, many people are extroverted and enjoy talking to people. Others are introverted and prefer not to go and talk to strangers about such issues as religion and beliefs about eternity. So, is everyone called to evangelize?
The answer is… yes! Everyone is called to evangelize, whether you’re introverted or extroverted. When Jesus left this earth, He commissioned all His disciples to go and spread the message of His gospel to the ends of the earth. However, He didn’t leave them without some help. He also sent the Holy Spirit to assist them in their mission and to guide them into all truth.
If you are uncomfortable with evangelizing or sharing the gospel with people, remember that you aren’t alone. If you are a born-again true believer of Jesus, you have the Holy Spirit inside of you who is called the Helper for a very good reason. In our times of need, He gives us the right words to say to bring people to God. You don’t have to rely on your own personality or knowledge when you evangelize because God is right there with you through His Spirit. He will take care of you and help you when you need it.
What we also must understand is that the call to spread the gospel is not one that should be undertaken merely out of duty, but out of love for people. Jesus said that the most important commandments are to love God and love people. Sharing the gospel and evangelizing is a way of loving people. In fact, it is the best way that we can possibly love people.
If the gospel is true and Jesus is the only way to true and eternal life for now and all eternity, shouldn’t we want to communicate that truth to people out of love? Evangelizing is the highest form of love to others because it is, in effect, an attempt to save their soul by the power of Christ.
So, don’t think of evangelism as something you have to do. Think of it as something that you get to do. Take time to thank God for partnering with you in His plans to reconcile and redeem humanity to Himself. The Six Words Gospel
You can tell someone about Jesus using a six-letter acrostic that spells out the word GOSPEL.
GOD created us to be with him. (Genesis 1-2)
OUR sin separates us from God. (Genesis 3)
SINS cannot be removed by good deeds. (Genesis 4-Malachi 4)
PAYING the price for sin, Jesus died and rose again. (Matthew-Luke)
EVERYONE who trusts in Him alone has eternal life. (John)
LIFE with Jesus starts now and lasts forever. (Acts-Revelation)

Evangelism Podcast Host (00:29):
Welcome to the evangelism podcast with Dr. Daniel King, where Daniel interviews, full-time evangelists, pastors, missionaries, and normal everyday Christians to discover how they share their faith, their powerful testimonies, and amazing stories that will inspire you to reach people with the good news. And now here’s your host, missionary and evangelist Daniel King.
Evangelism Coach Daniel King (00:53):
Welcome to the evangelism podcast. I’m Daniel King, and I’m excited about telling people about Jesus today. I have a very special guest Greg steer and he is from dare to share. Thank you so much for being with me today.
Greg Stier (01:04):
Thanks Daniel for the opportunity.
Evangelism Coach Daniel King (01:06):
So we are at the Cotton Bowl here in Dallas, Texas at the Together 2022 event led by Nick Hall from Pulse ministries. They’re doing a great job organizing this whole event and getting people together that are excited about evangelism and just crying out to God for a move of God in this nation. And you’ve been invited here to, to speak. And you just shared at a, a workshop. Could you tell me a little bit about the, the workshop that you just shared at?
Greg Stier (01:38):
Yeah, we did a workshop on how to reach different world religions. And so, you know, basically the way you reach any world religion is by lovingly caringly sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ. And we gave ’em some apologetics hacks, but, you know, I think quite honestly, when you share Christ, we use three words, ask, admire, admit, ask good questions, admire what you can about what they believe, find common ground like Paul did and act 17. And then admit the reason you’re a Christian is you desperately need Jesus and then lay out the gospel.
Evangelism Coach Daniel King (02:08):
Okay. Let’s break down those three words a little bit. Give me some examples of, of walking through that process of how you would open up a conversation about God.
Greg Stier (02:19):
Yeah. So I, you know, one of the things I do is I just start talking to him, what’s your name and where you’re from, if I’m just meeting some person and is we kind of get to know about their family, their life, you know, I say, you know, one of the things I love to do is pray for people. Is there any way I can pray for you? And what I’ve discovered Daniel, is that when you do that, oftentimes people will stop and pause and they’ll think, and they’ll say, you know what, actually there is, they begin to open up. It’s almost like you kind of become a priest to them in a sense, and they want it. They begin to kind of share their journey and their story. And, and then you admire what you can, whatever their spiritual background is. And then you begin that process of laying the gospel out.
Evangelism Coach Daniel King (02:57):
Now you’ve developed a very innovative way for sharing the gospel and it’s called life in six words. Can you explain to me what that’s all about?
Greg Stier (03:07):
So we’ve been training teenagers for 30 years at dare to share. And one of the things that you wanna do with teens and adults is you, you really want to help them have a conversation, not just make a presentation. So we have an app called life in six words where there’s 14 words that come up on it, like meaningless purpose life happiness, money, God brokenness. And you just ask them, Hey, if you were to describe your life in six words, what would they be? And they look at the app and they choose six words out of the 14. And then you ask them, tell me why you chose those words and you hear their story. And you, you admire what you can about that. You find common ground. Then, then you say, can I share with you my six words, which are already on the app? You push my words and those words come up. That’s the way you share your testimony. And then finally you say, can I share with you God’s words? And then that’s when you walk through the six words from the Bible, God, our sins paying everyone life, the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Evangelism Coach Daniel King (04:05):
So that’s an acronym, G O S P E L, gospel that you’ve you have a word for each of those letters in the word gospel. So it makes it really easy to remember. If someone wants to know how to share the gospel, they can memorize these six words and it will help them to keep it clear in their mind so that they’re able to, to share the gospel if they ever have a chance to, to do that. And so could you walk me through those six words?
Greg Stier (04:35):
Yeah. And it’s really important. It’s what we call gospel fluency. So you wanna, you want to have the people you’re training really know the gospel. So G has God created us to be with him. So that’s Genesis one and two starts, you know, God made Adam and Eve to be in relationship with him, made humanity. O is our sins separate us from God, Genesis three when Adam and Eve got kicked out of the garden, S’s sins cannot be removed by good deeds. You see that from Genesis four through the last chapter of the old Testament, Malachi for, you know, the blood that sweat and the tears, the blood of the sacrifices, the sweat of trying to obey all the commandments and the tears of contrition when they failed to none of that could remove their sin. So P paying the price for sin, Jesus died and rose again, you see that in Matthew, mark, and Luke Jesus paid the price in our place for our sin.
Greg Stier (05:19):
And then he rose again. E is everyone who trusted him alone as eternal life. You see that in the book of John, you know, the one requirement for salvation is faith alone in Christ alone. And then L life with Jesus starts now and lasts forever acts through revelation. It is a personal permanent relationship with God and it cannot be broken by you and we’ll never be broken by him and you’re sharing the gospel, but you’re also sharing what’s called the meta narrative. The big story of the Bible from Genesis one to revelation 22 in six simple sentences. And it’s really important, Daniel, in this current post-Christian culture that we communicate the gospel in a way that tells the whole story of the Bible.
Evangelism Coach Daniel King (06:01):
Your website is dare to share.org and the ministry is called dare to share. Can you tell me some about what resources are available on the re on the, the website? Yeah.
Greg Stier (06:14):
Well, first of all, I would just say right away, go to your app store and download life and six words. It’s a free app and it’s in 16 different languages, actually, 17th Korean was added today. So all that app changes just with a push of a button to a different language. So life and six words on your app store. And then we have free curriculum for teenagers on our website. We do an annual event for youth leaders called dare to share live, where they can have their youth groups trained simultaneously on November 12th, how to share the gospel. And we’ll take ’em out to actually share Christ from coast to coast. So that’s dare to share live countless articles. I’ve written 22 books. I mean, we’ve got a ton of stuff to help youth leaders. And I would say parents, grandparents and evangels and pastors really build a culture of evangelism and then give ’em the tools to do it.
Evangelism Coach Daniel King (07:00):
Tell me a little bit about your story. How did you get excited about telling people about Jesus?
Greg Stier (07:06):
I don’t come from a typical religious church going pew, sitting him singing family. I come from a family filled with body building back at you and beer drinking thugs. And that’s just the women, you know, sadly, I mean, my family were urban. They were crazy in and outta jail. The Denver mafia nicknamed my uncles, the crazy brothers. So when the mafia thinks your family’s dysfunctional, it is not good. But at hillbilly preacher nickname, Yankee, for whatever reason, planted a church in the suburbs of Denver and reached my whole family on a dare. And one by one, my whole family, you know, over the course of a, you know, couple years, they all came to Christ. I got involved with the youth ministry and to be involved with this youth ministry on, on a leadership level, Yankee trained you and equipped you how to understand the word, execute the word, and execute the mission. And so I was equipped as a student to share the gospel when I was 12. First person on my list was my ma my mom almost aborted me. She was like this woman at the well with the baseball bat. But after three years of trying, I was able to lead her to Christ when I was 15 years old. So I was equipped by, by a youth leader and a pastor. And that’s why probably I love focusing on equipping youth leaders and teenagers and pastors, how to, how to share the gospel.
Evangelism Coach Daniel King (08:20):
And what’s the history of dare to share. How did that get started in, in what is your, your primary mission?
Greg Stier (08:27):
Our primary mission is to energize the church to mobilize youth, to gospel as their world. You know, and we started just in small churches and doing weekend trainings and I was pastoring a church at the same time until April 20th, 1999, the Columbine high school shooting took place. I resigned from the church cuz I knew a lot of the kids at the Columbine high school and focused on dare to share full time. And so now instead of doing weekend conferences, we do a, an annual assign cast. We do summer full week trainings and we work with other ministries to really help them strengthen their evangelism DNA so that they can train others to, to multiply the gospel.
Evangelism Coach Daniel King (09:08):
So if someone has a, a youth ministry or a college group and they want to equip them to learn how to, to share their faith, how can they find more resources or how can they get connected with you and, and what what’s available to them?
Greg Stier (09:24):
They can follow me at Greg Stier. I’m on Instagram and Twitter. So just at Greg Stier, or just go to Dare2share.org. That’s number two, dare two, share.org and just start clicking away. So many resources, so many articles, so many videos, so much help.
Evangelism Coach Daniel King (09:44):
Well, let’s just go through the six words one more time. And I encourage you. If you’re listening, memorize these six words, the acronym gospel, and it will equip you to be able to share your faith anywhere you go. So we’ve got, God created us to be with him. Our sins separate us from God. Sins cannot be removed by good deeds, paying the price for sin. Jesus died in rose. Again, everyone who trusts in him alone has eternal life and life with Jesus starts, starts now and lasts forever. And so what a powerful six words that can change someone’s life for all of eternity.
Greg Stier (10:26):
Amen. Romans one 16. I’m not ashamed of the gospel of Christ for it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes, I don’t know how God infused divine power into a stick that Moses used to open up the red sea. I don’t know how God infused divine power into a message that will blast the sin from the kingdom of darkness to the kingdom of light. I just know it works so we need to share it out loud. You’ve heard the quote before preach the gospel. If necessary use words, I hate that quote. I’ve changed. It preach the gospel. It’s necessary. Use words out as, as a parent will tell a toddler, use your words. I think God is leaning over to banister of heaven, telling a church, use your words. Of course we wanna live it, but we also gotta give it.
Evangelism Coach Daniel King (11:08):
I, I really love the concept of, of the six words. I I’m reminded of a story. Someone went to the famous writer, Ernest Hemingway, and challenged him and said, could you write an entire story in six words? And he says, yes, I can. And this is the story he wrote for sale. Baby shoes never used. It was a tragedy. And he wrote a whole story there. You can feel all of the emotion and everything that comes through that story of someone who had baby shoes that, that were never used. And there’s trying to sell ’em, but six words can literally change someone’s life. And if you take the gospel to them, it’ll change their life.
Greg Stier (11:49):
So I’m gonna steal that story now, cuz that’s awesome.
Evangelism Coach Daniel King (11:52):
It’s a good story. Yeah. Well go and find the app life in six words, download it to your iPhone, to your, your your droid, whatever type of technology you have. Go ahead and download it and, and it, you can just go through it and it screen by screen and witness to people and is a really great conversation. Start that that’s what I really liked about it is you’re asking like, Hey, if you could describe your life in six words what would it look like? And you know, you just show it to them and it generates curiosity. It opens that conversation. And then once you have the conversation going, it opens people’s hearts to receive the gospel.
Greg Stier (12:31):
So my good friend, Dave Gibson and I were in Scottsdale and we were at a restaurant and we asked Sandra this server, how would she describe her life? In six words, she took a look at the words and began to weep and had to excuse herself. And she came back. She goes, I’m sorry, those words just open up a floodgate of emotion in me. She started sharing with us, all of her struggles. We go through the gospel with her life in six words. She puts her faith in Christ on the spot six months later, Dave and I are back in that same restaurant looking for Sandra. We asked the server at Sandra, here she goes, oh, she’s not working today. And I said, well, let’s look, how would you describe your life? In six words? She goes, oh, Sandra already took us through that. And I trust the Christ, my savior. And now, I mean, I was like my goodness, just from one encounter. And it’s not the app, it’s the gospel. So I tell people I don’t go into a steak restaurant for the plate. I go for the steak, right? I want it served on a plate. Well, the gospel message is is the stake and the life in six words, app is just a really nice plate to serve it on.
Evangelism Coach Daniel King (13:33):
Well, I love this tool. It’s a great tool for sharing the gospel. Thank you so much for being on the evangelism podcast. I appreciate it.
Greg Stier (13:39):
Thanks Daniel.
Evangelism Coach Daniel King (13:40):
Thanks so much for listening today. I am excited about telling people about Jesus and I want to invite you to be a part of helping us to rescue people from hell and take them with us to heaven. There’s two things you can do to help. Pastor Chas Stevenson (00:03):
My name is Chas Stevenson. I’m with Houston Faith Church. I’m the pastor there. My wife and I been pastoring for 14 years before I was an evangelist. I was a Christian and being a Christian meant that I was filled with the holy spirit and able to witness. And so I started trying to catch up to all the other Christians fishing for men. I found out that Jesus said, follow me that I’ll make you a Fisher of men. So just as a baby Christian, I thought I could, I gotta start doing this. And it was a little scary at first, but I, I felt the obligation to Jesus, to practice fishing and to fish for men and to catch men. And then I realized so few Christians are actually doing that. And when I felt the call to ministry, I went ahead and prayed through and found a certain aspect that I could help churches.
Pastor Chas Stevenson (00:52):
And so I would approach churches that I can help. All of your churches members become the Christian. They were meant to be and help them begin to share their faith with others and have better success than ever before. So that was how I felt Christianity or being a Christian crossed into getting everybody involved in evangelism. I think the secret to the, to the world harvest the secret to changing your nation, your state, your city, your community is found the secret to the whole thing is found sitting right in the church seat. His name is the believer. The believers is the key to everything. All right, when we take surveys in churches, we ask how many of you came to Christ through television and maybe one out of a hundred hands will go up. How many of you came to Christ through radio? Usually zero, these days out of a hundred came through radio.
Pastor Chas Stevenson (01:44):
How many of you came to Christ? Because a believer shared their faith with you. 90% of the hands go up. And then some people raised their hand. How many of you got saved in a church? And so the other 10% are done in church. The believer is the key. 90% of people that are saved, get saved through the witness of a believer. Even if it’s a parent or a friend or a relative, the believers is the one that’s been spreading this gospel all along. Anyway, even though I know that television does, does get some saved, they do a good job teaching, but that’s not the secret to the harvest. It’s not the key to really evangelism. So in our church, we, once we find the solution to evangelism is in the chairs, usually in Christians who have lost their purpose, Christians so often sit there for years frustrated, not, not knowing what to do.
Pastor Chas Stevenson (02:34):
What am I called to do? I’m waiting for my call. I’m waiting for my door to open. Where’s my title. What position can I have? What’s my grace. What’s my gift. And then that goes on for months and years. And they just sit there kind of stagnated when the truth is, if they have the holy spirit, they’re ready. If they know one scripture they’re ready, or we could say this, if they’re saved, they’re ready. The lady that Jesus got saved at the well, she ran on day one, didn’t know anything about anything. Except I found the Messiah. She ran got the whole half of the city saved and the other half came to Jesus and got saved one day. She evangelized the whole city because she found the Messiah. And so really the secrets there, it’s, it’s about keeping that as, as the, the vision, the focus, the emphasis that every one of us here are obligated, responsible, and able every Christian in the church, able to reach others tomorrow for the Lord, Jesus Christ, you know, in, in a natural way, sheep bear sheep shepherds, don’t bear sheep, but sheep bear sheep.
Pastor Chas Stevenson (03:38):
And so we can’t rely on the pulpit, even though there was a time when that was most important, we can’t rely on the pulpit to win all the souls. Okay. It’s great. If you bring a center to church, hopefully they’ll hear the message you get saved, but I found just as many or more get saved after the service with the believer in the car, driving away from church, that Believer’s important. He’s the one that needs to lead people to Jesus, even if they didn’t respond to some altar call. And so we can’t rely on the leaders to get everybody saved. Every Christian should be a healthy enough sheep to lead someone else to Jesus. So if you think about it, a female sheep, who’s not barren in the natural. There’s something wrong. Who’s not barring sheep. A female sheep should bear some sheep. And if not, they’re gonna get eaten, right?
Pastor Chas Stevenson (04:26):
You gotta, you gotta produce here. So Christians who aren’t barring sheep, there’s usually something wrong there not to put people down, but there’s something spiritually wrong, not, not healthy that the pastor or the shepherd has to recognize. I gotta get my sheep healthy so that they will naturally bear sheep out there. Some of it’s so simple but we’ve exempted so many for so long. We’ve exempted so many Christians because they didn’t feel the quite the boldness, right? I’m not the extrovert. And so I can’t do that kind of thing. Oh, we, we turn every introvert into a disciple. I mean, into a, into a Fisher of men. And it’s beautiful to see even the non extroverts be able to share their faith. One on one with some friend over the coffee table and it’s Glos or strangers. I mean, we’ve got introverts approaching strangers, handing a track, leading them to Jesus.
Pastor Chas Stevenson (05:17):
So everything we do is kind of designed to empower the believer and remind the believer. And there’s a little bit to that, but the secret is the believer. Absolutely. We don’t have an evangelism class where we’re expecting everybody to come to and train for 12 weeks and then send you out to the streets to knock on doors. That’s what we don’t do, cuz that’s way too intimidating and too scary. And it only touches about 2% of the people, only those who are already interested in the evangelism really come to that. The rest think they’re exempted. Okay. So the key is this. The key is to present the true commission of Jesus Christ as if it applies to everyone, everyone after the holy spirit and power has come upon, you’ll receive power and you shall be witnesses that’s for everybody. So we have to dispel a lot of the myth that peop people have been under for quite a while.
Pastor Chas Stevenson (06:09):
Christians have just been mistrained in just little inconsistencies with scripture, thinking that an evangelist is, is who wins souls. And I’ve discovered that an evangelist and a soul winner are two different things. They could be the same. They’re not necessarily the same, a soul winner or a Christian witness is one who leads others to Jesus. An evangelist is an office that someone stands in that has a different grace, a special grace for mass crusades and or reminding the church of their great commission. But that’s an office to ed to five, the saints, remember in Ephesians four he gave all five offices for the perfecting of the saints for the work of the ministry. And so the evangelist is designed to Edify the church. Whereas the believer is designed to win a sin, even though certainly the evangelist would have an extra grace and power and anointing to do mass things and crowd things.
Pastor Chas Stevenson (07:06):
And with, with gifts of the spirit on purpose to lead many, many to Jesus, but that’s different than a witness. And that’s where we’ve lost a lot of people, they think, well, I’m not an evangelist. I can’t do that. Wait don’t you aren’t you able to talk at lunch with a friend about different things? Yeah. I can do that. Well then you can share Christ at lunch with a friend. And so that’s where the same thing with like prayer ministry. We’ve said that, well, they, they have a special anointing to pray and they have a special anointing to win souls. So we’ll send them on their own. I don’t really feel called to the prayer group or the street group and that’s okay, but we can’t exempt everybody else. Let them think. Well, I’m not, everybody’s supposed to pray. There’s no gift of praying and there’s no gift of soul winning.
Pastor Chas Stevenson (07:52):
You realize that there’s no gift of soul winning ever mentioned in the scripture. The gift is the holy spirit. And he’s been given to everybody to present Christ with authority and with a lively, you know, resurrection power. And so the whole thing is, is dispelling some of these rumors another rumor I was thinking of is some people have been taught that you’re only supposed to be led when sharing your faith. Like I’m gonna wait till the holy spirit leads me before I ever say anything. You’ll be waiting a long time. You’ll be waiting a lot. And if you really want to be led, if you really want to be led, just read mark chapter 16, where it says go ye into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. And you can just stop right there. He said that to you and I didn’t, he, every believer needs to realize he said that to.
Pastor Chas Stevenson (08:41):
So for the rest of my life, all, all I need to do is tell every single person the gospel and I will have obeyed the spirit. I will have been led by the spirit because he led the, the writing of the scriptures, right? So we have to start somewhere. So instead of having a red light on all the time, waiting for it to turn green, where God says, now you can preach the gospel to somebody, have it on green and be willing and ready to tell everybody until it turns red, that’s a whole different perspective. Isn’t it? And then there’s the fears and the uncertainty and the intimidation of in a conversation. So we, we help everybody get through that, but there’s some secrets in the church that over time everybody can come along there. You know, we do at our church have a monthly evangelism event that we get U different people to lead.
Pastor Chas Stevenson (09:30):
Whatever is on your heart. Well, I want to go to the park and do an outreach. Okay. Everybody can go to the park with you. We’ll have anywhere from 10 to 40 people go on these events. And we encourage some of the young Christians about it that, Hey, if you’ve never done this and you’re a little scared go to one of these and hide behind somebody don’t, you don’t have to say a word, do anything you can just watch. And before the day’s over, they’re like, wow, this is so easy. It’s so easy to lead others to Jesus. How do you do it? You ignore the ones that don’t want Jesus and you, and you’d spend time with ones that do, this is not about you arguing Jesus. And this is where so many people, they back off office. Like, I don’t know how to argue.
Pastor Chas Stevenson (10:10):
Jesus. You’re not supposed to do that. You’re just looking out there for the ripe ones. Right? Think about how many times the word of God’s liken to the seed and the farmer to the believer of the preacher, right? What does a, what does a farmer do when he plants? Let’s say tomatoes, farmer, plants, tomatoes in the ground and waters and waters and waters and takes care of. And he doesn’t do, he doesn’t try to pull a fruit day. One. He just waters and waters and waters. And he doesn’t try to start pulling green tomatoes. If the tomatoes not rip, don’t pull it. I mean, I know some people want the fried green tomatoes, but if the tomato’s not right, don’t pull it. It’s too hard to pull. It comes. You know, you pull in the vine, you’re ripping things, your, your, your hands get all smelly with vine juice.
Pastor Chas Stevenson (11:00):
On the other hand, when the tomato turns red or starts to turn red, it’s easy to pull it. You just kind of tap it and it’ll fall off in your hand. Same thing with soul winning. You don’t force the green ones that aren’t ready yet. All you’re doing is looking for ripe ones. How do you know if it’s a ripe one? You ask them, would you like to receive Jesus today? If they say, no, you say, okay, bye-bye or you tell ’em some nice things or whatever, but you don’t spend time on those that aren’t ready. Makes it easy. Doesn’t it? So there might be 10 people that aren’t ready. You’re looking for the one that is ready. The scripture says that to that the Lord ordained such that that should be saved, right? I think every day there’s a group that’s ordained and ready to be saved.
Pastor Chas Stevenson (11:42):
We’re looking for those. So when we do our outreaches, we’ll preach to a thousand people and 50 will be saved. We did it. We didn’t fail 950 times. We succeeded a thousand times preaching and telling is success. Planting a seed is success. So we, we have to remember, don’t expect everybody get saved and look at your successes as those that you reached. Okay. One final thing for pastors. There’s this feeling about evangelism that if we’re gonna do an outreach, we’re doing it so that we can get people into our church. I found that as a, almost a hundred percent failure rate, maybe that’s exaggeration, but it’s a high failure rate. Okay. Especially when you’re leading people to Jesus, if you’re doing an event and, and making a big deal and showing people your church, maybe you get some church members, but those who receive Jesus on the streets, don’t normally go straight to the church where the person was that saved them, or that led ’em to Jesus.
Pastor Chas Stevenson (12:46):
Okay? So you can’t expect that otherwise everybody will be discouraged. Wow. We’ve led all these people to the Lord. And nobody came to our church. We have, what are we doing? You need to look at it that way. You’re planting seed, where you don’t reap. Somebody else will reap where you sewed. But if you’ll to get involved in that, then God will let you reap where you didn’t sew. And so don’t look at it as I have to get them in my church. Typically, when a person gets saved or a center gets saved on the streets or out in public their first thought is I’m gonna go to church with so, and so my friend who’s been asking me to go for years, my aunt, they run to somebody familiar. Who’s going to a Christian Church. Okay. You can encourage ’em to do that. They’re not gonna go with a stranger.
Pastor Chas Stevenson (13:31):
So outreach to strangers, don’t expect them to, to come into your church and, and just flock in because you were out there getting ’em saved. That’s one of the myths that kind of, you know, put the, put the breaks on evangelism. It looks discouraging. Don’t feel like that. Look at it. As we succeeded, we reached everybody in our city and that’s our goal. Reach everybody in our city. As a senior pastor, I think there’s one key ingredient to causing evangelism, to explode and continue in any local church anywhere. And it does depend on the pastor. It does depend on the leader because he kind of runs the show, runs the meeting and keeps whatever vision he’s got going. He’s the one. So here’s, here’s the secret really? And it happens in our church. We, we get this working in our church and it’s amazing the results we see, I call it the four year principle.
Pastor Chas Stevenson (14:25):
And, and what I do is I, I look back at the book of acts after Jesus departed, after he sent the holy spirit, after they were filled and started the ministry what was the local church? What did it look like on day one? What did it look like on week two? When people would come to church? What did the four year sound like? Okay. what was the conversation at church? It certainly about the news of the day or the, the sports teams or anything like that, which that’s all, that’s fine. But because of the excitement around this gospel and the resurrection of Jesus, I think the conversation in the foyer was something like, Hey, what did y’all do this week for God? Hey, did you hear about Peter and John at the gate? They got that guy healed. Yeah. I heard about that.
Pastor Chas Stevenson (15:11):
That was awesome. Hey, listen, what I did, I, there was these teenagers walking by on the street. I led him to, I told him about Jesus being resurrected. They didn’t know that he got resurrected. And then I baptized him in the, in the pond right there, man, what did you do? What did you do? And we’re doing what he said. So there was this whole, we obeying Jesus conversation. I just have a feeling. That’s what happened at least for a while. At least until Jude said, come on, you guys earnest Lee contend for that faith. It was once delivered to the saints. Remember that? And so that aspect just kind of reveals. We need some convers, some right conversation in church. All right. So what we do at our church or what’s so I think it could be anywhere is we have a time, every service to mention the works we do for God.
Pastor Chas Stevenson (16:00):
Whereas a lot of churches will have testimony time. What did, what, what did God do for anybody? Did anybody wanna testify? We specifically say, what did you do for God this week? Anybody wanna say, and people will begin to say what they did at work. I passed out a track. I talked to my friend, I made a phone call. I led the so. And so to the Lord, how many of you led someone to Jesus? What’s our soul count? Did we convert anybody this week? Did we turn anybody to Christ this week? And I’ll look through the congregation in one hand and another hand. How many, how, where at, where did you, where did you get ’em saved at? And so we’ll have four or five, almost every service saying I did this. I led someone, my coworker, my dad, you know, I prayed for the sick.
Pastor Chas Stevenson (16:44):
And so now all of a sudden, the whole congregation’s thinking what who’s doing, what I thought it was, you know, that’s where you just dispel the rumor that the pastor does all the works, right? And so if, if church members look around saying, if she can do this, I can do this. And so this spreads, and, and it’s just a little 32nd, 62nd moment in the church, but it reveals the emphasis we’re placing on true evangelism, every church service. It seems most pastors spend a few minutes talking about tithes and offerings. Isn’t that right? Sure. Give a scripture testimony, talk a little bit, encourage people to give. At least you’d have a time for offering. The question is why do we do that? Well, because we know money is required. It’s important for the local church to continue to isn’t it. Well the people know that’s important, how they know that’s important, cuz we talk about it every week.
Pastor Chas Stevenson (17:50):
If we would just kind of take a step back and think of what’s most important to heaven, even though money’s important, it’s the great commission it’s reaching the whole wide world. And so the most important thing is spreading this gospel and then raising up saints, discipling people. We ought to talk about it all the time. So along with the ties in offering, and that’s really one of the best times to do it, one of the best times to talk about soul winning is while the offering’s being collected every once in a while, stop the offertory song. And while the buckets are getting passed, talk about soul winning, let people share their stories to each other. That’s how fire spreads. You have to let people say and talk and then fire can spread. And so it’s, it’s really the five minute charge or the 62nd charge.
Pastor Chas Stevenson (18:40):
All it is is just a consistent reminder. Every week. Sometimes we do it twice a week. Our midweek service, same thing. We’ll have a time shared stories every once in a while on a Wednesday night, somebody will have a question. You know, I was talking to so and so, and they had, they presented this to me. What am I supposed to say to that? So I’ll get a little teach time in there of, of explaining how to approach questions or hens or sins or naysayers or whatever. But the, the point is that we need to talk. We need to emphasize it somehow, not the whole message. Don’t do a six weeks course that you only do once every five years, then you miss everybody keep this as part of the life of the church. Otherwise the evangelism will, will, will die back down to nothing.
Pastor Chas Stevenson (19:23):
And so, and, and we need evangelists coming through to remind us, there’s a special thing that when evangelist says it, they just fire people up about it. And so we need the evangelist gift in the local church, which I think is a, is a missing element of many churches because we’re thinking, oh, evangelists get people saved. And I know that in my congregation, there’s not so many people and I can give an altar call myself, why do I need the evangelist? You need the evangelist because Jesus said you needed the evangelist and he needs to come through your church to motivate people and remind people of the great commission. So pastors do have some responsibility here and I’d say one more thing to pastors. If pastors, aren’t also being a witness every day, everywhere they go, how are their people gonna follow that? If the pastor’s into music, the people are into music.
Pastor Chas Stevenson (20:08):
If the pastor’s into, you know, Bible study, the people are in the Bible study. If the pastor’s a big prayer, the people are prayers. If the pastor’s a real witness for Jesus, the people will start following the pastor ought to have a story. Every once in a while, one preacher long ago said that if pastors would start winning souls every week, they wouldn’t have to have a book of illustrations every Sunday <laugh> to prepare their message. And so this has to become reality that leading others to Jesus is what Christians do. We are fishers of men. All of us are fishers of men. And the fact is most Christians aren’t fishing very much. Maybe once a year, they’ll find the perfect opportunity to fish and that’s not acceptable. So pastors have to get some of these things ironed out so that we don’t let people become the dead sea.
Pastor Chas Stevenson (20:56):
You can’t just keep, keep pouring into people if they can’t give it out. So, you know, if you don’t have any exit rivers, you just get stale. And so many Christians are unhappy. We found the happiest. Christians are the soul winners we found the most faithful are the soul winners. And that’s what makes it all go around. I think that’s the most exciting thing about it all is that we were all in the same thing together, which is impacting the world for Jesus. One of our visions at the church is that every believer has a vision for worldwide evangelism and personal evangelism. So I’m not negating worldwide evangelism and missions and big crusades and stuff like that. But I also want people to have a personal vision for evangelism. What can I do? And everybody, every single Christian can do this stuff, but we talk about it.
Pastor Chas Stevenson (21:48):
So we get ’em testifying. We have a sole goal of individual witnessing and that’s where we find the biggest success. So we, we see church members slowly but surely over six months, sometimes a year after about a six month period, many people come up to me and say, I finally said something. I said, God bless you at work. And then another six months goes by. And they said, I finally gave a track down. And a little bit later, they said, I finally led someone to Jesus and I couldn’t believe it. It was so easy. I just shared my heart and I cared about ’em and they wanted to receive Jesus. Right? And so it takes time and we don’t pressure people or make people feel guilty or act like they have to go knock on doors or go to the streets. Even though we do have outreaches, we don’t act like that’s the only thing we do. The main thing we do is everybody’s a witness tomorrow after church. I can’t go where you go. So you have to, you have to take care of all the people where you’re at. So that’s the key is giving ’em a vision and a purpose for, for lifestyle evangelism, wherever you are.
