Main Idea: Life and death are in your hands. You choose.
Key Verse: “I set before you life and death, blessing and cursing, therefore choose life.” (Deuteronomy 30:19).
Story:
One day the smartest student in all of Tanzania wanted to trick the great wise teacher. But the teacher was so smart. How could the boy trick him? The teacher knew all the answers.
He had an idea. He decided to catch a butterfly in his hand and take it to the wise teacher. He would say to the teacher, “Teacher, I have a butterfly in my hand. Is it dead or alive?” If the teacher replies, “It is dead.” The boy planned to open his hand and allow the butterfly to fly away. (Note: Ask children to flap their arms like butterfly wings.)
But if the teacher says, “The butterfly is alive,” the smart student planned to crush the butterfly in his hand and say, “The butterfly is dead.
Either way, the teacher would be proved wrong.
The boy caught a butterfly and ran up to the teacher and said, “Teacher, teacher, I have a butterfly in my hands. Is it alive or dead?”
The wise teacher stroked his chin and thought, “Humm.” (Ask the audience to say, “Humm.”)
The wise teacher looked at the smart student and said, “ Smart student, the choice is yours. The power of life and death lies in your hands.”
Everyone lift up your hands and say, “I have the power to choose life or death.”
