The Story of the Father and the Crocodile

Main Idea: No sin is strong enough to pull you away from God’s love.

Key Verse:  “I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand” (John 10:28 NIV).

Once there was a boy who lived in Kenya. He lived beside a river. One day as he was walking home from school, he said to himself, “I want to go for a swim.”

He jumped into the water, but the boy did not see a giant crocodile sneaking up on him.

Just then his father who was in the house saw the crocodile coming towards his boy. The father ran to the river and he yelled, “Come back!”

But the boy did not hear. The father yelled louder, “Come back!” Everyone shout, “Come back!”

Finally the boy heard his father. He turned around and swam as fast as he could to where his father was standing on the river bank. The father dived into the water and grabbed the boy by the arms. The giant crocodile’s jaws slammed shut on the boy’s shoe.

There was a huge tug-of-war. The father was pulling the boy’s arms and the crocodile was pulling the boy’s foot.

The crocodile was stronger then the man, but the father’s love would not let his son go. They were tugging back and forth.

The father dug his nails into the boys arm and shouted, “Kick the crocodile.” Everyone pretend to kick the crocodile. The boy kicked with all his might and the father pulled with all his might. Finally the crocodile let go and the boy was set free.

Two weeks later a news reported came to the hospital to interview the boy. He said, “Is it true that a crocodile chomped on you?” The boy lifted up his leg to show the scars, “Yes, it’s true.

But then with tears of great pride running down his face, he said, “I have other scars.” He lifted up his sleeve and he says, “I have scars from my father’s hand that would not let me go. My father’s love was stronger than that crocodile.”

God’s love is stronger than any crocodile of sin that’ll try to chomp you down and bring you down to the pit of the bottom of the river called hell. Some of you have been struggling with lust, some of you have been struggling with adultery, some of you have been lying or stealing. It seems like you are going down and you can’t get free from the jaws of that crocodile of sin. But I have good news.

There’s someone else who has scars on his wrists. His name is Jesus. He dove into your life of sin and is trying to pull you out by love. He is saying, “Come with me. Kick sin off. Kick your old life off.”

He is grabbing hold of you today. Will you kick and fall into His arms? Satan is trying to pull you down, down, down. But God’s love is stronger than the grip of sin.
