Small Sins Lead to Death

Main Idea: Even small sins are bad because they will grow and eventually lead to death.

Key Verse: “For the wages of sin is death…” (Romans 6:23).

Illustration: Once there was a little boy who found a baby crocodile in the river. He brought the crocodile home to keep as a pet. Every day he fed the crocodile a small piece of chicken. The boy’s friend said, “You can’t keep the crocodile, he might hurt you.” The boy replied, “My crocodile would never hurt me. Look how cute he is.” The boy continued to feed the crocodile and every day the reptile got bigger. The crocodile got so big that he could eat a whole chicken in one bite. Another friend advised the boy, “Get rid of the crocodile, he might eat you.” The boy said, “My crocodile would never eat me. Look he smiles every time I bring him food.” The crocodile got bigger, and bigger, and bigger until he was twelve feet long. One day, the crocodile grabbed the boy and ate him with one big gulp.

Sometimes we think that a small sin will not hurt us. But all sin ultimately leads to death. If we keep a small sin hidden in our life, eventually the sin will grow until it consumes us. A small lie leads to a bigger lie until you are caught. Stealing a candy bar might lead to stealing a bike which might lead to stealing from a bank and getting arrested by the police. If you have sin in your life, get it out now or it will destroy you. “For the wages of sin is death…” (Romans 6:23).
