Evangelism Coach Daniel King (00:57):
Welcome to the evangelism podcast. I’m Daniel King and I am super excited about leading people to Jesus. Today. I have a very special guest with me, evangelist Richard Hislop. Thank you so much for being with me today.

Richard Hislop (01:14):
Thank you so much. It’s a huge honor, Daniel, and I’m a huge fan of the podcast myself. So it’s such an honor to be with you today.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (01:22):
Richard, tell me some about yourself and how you got started in being an evangelist.

Richard Hislop (01:29):
Yeah, absolutely. You know, I was saved at a young age, grew up in the church. My parents just love the Lord and I remember sitting around the kitchen table one afternoon and I received Jesus as my Lord and savior right there with my mom and dad and my family and my whole life. I knew that I had a call of God on my life. Just words receive from the Lord, Holy spirit, the way he was moving on my heart, but never knew exactly how that would manifest or what that would look like. But as growing up, I remember watching the TV and watching TBN all of a sudden you know, that was back in the day where I think it was like the Trinity broadcast network or something like that. We would see this channel and all of a sudden I saw this, this man come on the screen and all this, this huge crowd in Africa shouting for Jesus.

Richard Hislop (02:20):
And it was Reinhardt Bonnke. And I got to see this huge gospel crusade of him preaching the gospel for before a massive people. And I was so moved in my heart and touched by that, that I knew one day that I would want to do the same thing for Jesus, that I had a passion for the gospel and the loss, but, you know, never knew exactly how that would play out what that would do, but it was it was a T a period of time over, I guess, the course of just growing up and maturing that, that solidified of who I am and my call and Jesus that I would be an evangelist that I’m called to be an evangelist and to preach the gospel. As as I went throughout high school, I ended up going to a church of God school at Lee university in Cleveland, Tennessee, and studied there.

Richard Hislop (03:08):
And then ended up getting married and going to the workforce. And we just served in our church here in the Fredericksburg Virginia area, me and my wife and my wife and I at that time, ended up doing a three month full, full immersive, like a full-time ministry internship here in the Fredericksburg area. And around that time, and I even remember younger going on missions trips, and we went with our pastor like to Peru, and he was doing this massive crusade at the end of the week. And we were the ones going out on the streets and because the language barrier we would do these mime acts of like I actually got to play the devil and my friend got to play Jesus. And he found the place to start your ministry playing the devil. Oh, where are you in, in Peru? What’s that?

Richard Hislop (03:56):
We were in a ketose Peru. We flew into Lima, and then we went to Iquitos, Peru. And who did you go down there with? Or what was we went with? I’m sorry. Yeah, we went with Trinity chapel and that was that was a Steve FETO was our PA the pastor and they evangelist there and having this big crusade at the end of the week. And so we would go leading up to that. We would just go into all these schools and all in, all around all the town, we would do it on the streets, but we, then we would hit school after school, after school and show people being bound in chains, and then Jesus coming in and setting the people free. And it was such a powerful image. And then they would pray. We would have the gospel preach with an interpreter leading up to the big crusade at the end of the week.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (04:35):
Yeah, I remember I got to go to a Iquitos, Peru probably about 20 years ago now doing a crusade, they’re participating in a crusade and it ketos, you fly into Lima, Peru, which is the capital. And then you go on another plane way out into the jungle. And really the only way to get there is by airplane, but it’s right next to the Amazon river. So I remember when we went to ketos, we actually got on a boat and went several miles up and down the Amazon river, visiting some of the tribe, people there and visiting the churches that had been planted by another evangelist friend of mine that was in that area. And so it’s, it’s awesome to hear that God is moving in a ketos, Peru still, and people are being saved there. What were some of the, the miracles and things that you saw when you were there in Peru?

Richard Hislop (05:28):
Yeah. Well, besides the such hunger to hear the gospel and to be, you know, we, we were, we were having seen people delivered from alcohol addictions. We were seeing people healed. We at the end, at the crusade, some of the most memorable times, that was the first time I really saw the power of God, fall of miracles manifesting right before my eyes in person and leading up. Then we had the big crusade at the end. And I remember I was a part of the ministry team and just praying over person and I, for someone and all of a sudden their deaf ears opened, they were able to hear, we were seeing other people, their blind eyes were being open one, a premature baby. She actually grew a foot because it was, you was about to die. This person brought a premature baby, and I didn’t see the baby grow in person, but the person brought it up.

Richard Hislop (06:14):
And the other people were like, yes, they were like, it was this big. And now it grew. And sh the, the one, the mom was up on the stage crying, crying, because it was barely, apparently this baby was malnourished and had some birth issues and Jesus just stepped in. And I was, I was blown away by that mighty creative miracle as a young man, I was just like, wow, look at the hunger and the power of the Lord. And of course the greatest miracle of all is these people giving their lives to Jesus, to be their personal Lord and savior.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (06:47):
You remember one of the things that I got to eat when I was in Iquitos, Peru was alligator tail nuggets. So like chicken nuggets except made out of alligator tail and everyone’s, well, what does it taste like? And to me it tasted like, like chicken, but fishy chicken. So did you get to eat something?

Richard Hislop (07:05):
Exactly. I, it was like, it was like a merit. It had like a little bit of a sauce to it, the alligator. And I remember I was like, it’s like chicken. I was like, yeah, it tastes like chicken, but that’s a great way to describe it. A fishy chicken. Yeah. So

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (07:19):
I was reading on your website and it sounds like you’ve really been impacted by the ministry of Reinhard Bonnke the great German evangelist. And yes, you, you mentioned that you had it in your heart to launch out into full-time evangelism to launch your ministry, but it was really the event of him going to heaven that really gave you the impetus to do that. So tell me a little bit about that and why hearing that he, that Reinhard Bonnke he had gone to heaven really pushed you out into the harvest fields.

Richard Hislop (07:53):
Yeah. So back at LA I’ll come to this and two seconds to go backtrack. In 2012, our church brought him in for a conference. It was a way it was actually a partnership between awaken the Dawn and the call with Lou Engle 2012 here in Fredericksburg, Virginia ride. Bonnke came in for that. And I finally, and that’s where the picture you see up that I got with him. That’s when I got at 2012 and he was commissioning us forth with the gospel. He was praying, you know, in his later years, he was all about raising up the next generation of Holy spirit evangelists and passing that Baton on. And I remember just weeping in the presence of the Lord saying, this is who I’m supposed to be. And in that moment, getting to meet my lifelong hero of the faith. And that’s when he signed and gave me his copy of his autobiography and just got to talk with him and him blessed me.

Richard Hislop (08:42):
And he prayed over all of us to be commissioned and his mantel to pass forward to us. And it was just, it was just amazing time and the power of God. But then I went for a couple years of just serving at my, our church and still working in the marketplace and trying to figure out, I know that sometime I’m going to go into full-time evangelists, but I didn’t have like some Vangelis mentor around me or coach. I didn’t necessarily know what, how, how do I make it that jump? How do I make that step? What do I do? And when is it going to happen? I’m just seeking the Lord. So I began just going on the streets, you know, the Todd white go with the gospel, you know, or the Reinhardt Bunky, just the one, the person, the one is you go. And I remember even commuting up to DC where I was working at the time and Chinatown just to and from work.

Richard Hislop (09:23):
I would just be sharing the gospel with people and laying hands on people that also like Heidi Baker, just loving that person in front of me. And I just knew that, you know, I just would start there. I would just start there even like Reinhard Bonnke began on the street corners with the accordion and at the bus stops. And I would just start there and someday the Lord would, it would, he would show me the next step. I just so happened. I’m in Fredericksburg, Virginia, but on the month, on the day of his passing, I it’s a, it’s a day. I will never forget in my entire life. And I was December 7th of 2019. That was the very day my work. And we’re, we all actually work virtually. We don’t normally do things like this. We’ve never been back to Florida since or anywhere. That’s the only time we’ve ever had a company event actually, where we were at a location together.

Richard Hislop (10:08):
And it was that very morning where we had a company event in Orlando, Florida, that I traveled down to Orlando and was there that morning. And I was at this company event that, you know, for my full-time job. And all of a sudden my wife sends me a text and I wasn’t really in the frame of mine, I was there for my job. I was there for work. I wasn’t in the frame of mind of, of, of what we’re doing. I was focused on, on our work annual conference. And I get the text from Lindsay and she said, Reinhart has just run. Her bunkie has just passed away. And the only way I know and, and went to heaven and she said, Richard, you know, and, and the only way I know how to describe it, it was like a Holy spirit to fibulator when off on my heart, I began to tear up man to cry.

Richard Hislop (10:54):
I’ve always worked people around me, the owner of our company, I’m sitting there with my phone and they’re like, what’s going on with Richard? I’m like, right. Her bunkie just passed away. I told this one guy to my left. He was like, who’s that? I’m like, I’m like, Oh, the great evangelist, you know, and I am shaken by this, like in the spirit, something is going on that I could not explain the week after we go to Melbourne’s coconut beach right there on the beach, just to get some time after that event day event, we were like, well, if we’re in Florida, let’s stay down here. And that with my wife and my kids, our three kids, we, we went and stayed at the beach for a week. And I was just, it was the only way I can describe it. I was like crying.

Richard Hislop (11:33):
It was like this, this, the Holy spirit was just doing the work on me. And he spoke to me and he said, Richard, now’s the time go preach the gospel, go preach. The gospel. America shall be saved. The nations shall be saved. Now’s the time will you go? And it was just, almost like even that from the Lord for me to say yes, and at the time we were doing business stuff, I had a business Mart. I was doing online marketing as well as my job. And I felt that invitation from the Lord to go. And my wife was even like, what’s, you know, it took us a little bit to figure out what’s going on. Like, what was going on in my heart? Like this, I wasn’t the same person. It was like this new touch from the Lord. And I ended up seeing a video.

Richard Hislop (12:15):
I was trying to search for Reinhard Bonnke on these videos and of what was happening, what was going like, Holy spirit, what are you doing? And I found the video on YouTube of Reinhar Bonnke and George Jeffrey’s of when he passed away. And he said he received a mantle. And I had never S I, for some reason, I had never seen that one before. And I also found another video where he said they shared that vision that I hadn’t heard before of Reinhard Bonnke in the future of these two personalities talking and when asked the other. And he said, whatever happened to that great evangelist right in our bunkie. And the other one said to him, Oh, he was just a 4runner for an entire generation of Holy spirit evangelists. And I remember that resonated in the Holy spirit, told me, and he said, you are one of those evangelists.

Richard Hislop (13:01):
I’ve called to go and preach the gospel. And I realized on that day, that is what happened. And it’s not that we get, like Reinhard Bonnke always said, it’s not like we get the anointing. The anointing comes from the Holy spirit and Jesus. But that, that, that Baton, that spirit of Elijah, like Reinhard, Bonnke, he always said it does pass or something that passes from generation to generation. And I don’t believe it’s just me. We’re seeing, you know, with the evangelists who can’t with all the stuff we got going on, we are seeing an entire generation of Holy, certain evangelists rise up. And I just believe I’m just one of those that the Lord has called. And I’ve just decided wholeheartedly to say, yes,

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (13:38):
Amen. Well, I think that’s the right attitude to have God is raising up a new generation of young people who are dedicated to telling people about Jesus, who are willing to go and sacrifice to whatever it takes to take the gospel of Jesus Christ to this generation. And so I’m very honored to be one of those successors of, of Reinhardt, Bunky and, and U2. And I know there are many others that God is raising up. And one of the things that, that Reinhardt told me many years ago, I got to meet him at a crusade in a Buddha Nigeria. And he told me Daniel, that, which is considered great today will be normal tomorrow. And so I think that with this generation of evangelists, we’re going to see not just one or two people doing large, massive crusades, but we are going to see dozens and even hundreds.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (14:32):
And hopefully someday, even thousands of people going out and preaching the gospel and bring in the loss to Jesus Christ. Now you are launching out in ministry and you have a major outreach plant right here in America, which I think is wonderful because America needs just as much as any other part of the world. You know, sometimes we go to Africa and preach the gospel, but, but we also need to be preaching the gospel right here in our own backyard. And so you are planning in orange, Virginia, a big revival, a gospel crusade coming up just really soon. Tell me about the plans for that and what’s going to happen.

Richard Hislop (15:17):
Yeah, well, it goes back to that time. In 2012, I was sitting there praying after Reinhard Bonnke speak. There was a room of 3000 people and I was, we were all in a time of intercession of the call and I was just praying and interceding after Reinhard Bonnke spoke, I was so eager and I was just quietly praying along with all these thousands of people. But I said, Lord, I had a heart for America because Reinhard Bonnke was the Lord had spoken around that America shall be saved. And I felt that resonating in my heart that the Lord was speaking to me that America should be saved as well as the nations that his heart was also for America. And I said, Lord, will you, will you use me to save America? I would just sit in there praying to myself quietly and worshiping logis while everybody else was, was doing this of thousands of people.

Richard Hislop (15:58):
And I was saying, would you use me to heal the sick? Would you use me to cast out the demons to deliver the people in the name of Jesus? God, would you use me to take your gospel all for your glory and to see America saved as I was praying this older man tapped me on the shoulder and I, and I looked at him and he said, he said, son, I was just walking through this auditorium. The Lord told me to come over to you. And I know there’s, I don’t know if this means anything to you, but he told me to come over to you in a Jace told me to tell you that the answer is yes. And, and, and he said, does that mean anything to you? And I was, I was just, tears began to come through my eyes and I just began.

Richard Hislop (16:33):
I told them what I was praying. And he would think that someone just gave him the world from what I told them, he was so excited to hear that. So this comes along with that vision of what the Lord’s spoken to me over the years. And when Reinhard Bonnke passed, he’d still, he said, Richard America shall be saved still. I’m just by faith. We’re going for it. And the Lord has opened doors. He lined me up with a group of intercessors that God spoke to them to turn their farm into a harvest field for the next like decade of harvest. It’s called the Orangeville, the dreams they make, but they were waiting for an evangelist. I somehow got invited to this prayer meeting and they heard my story and the Holy spirit just connected us. [inaudible] Exactly, exactly. And the Lord spoke to me if I had said yes to him, he’d be the one to open all the doors. And that was this, that it was just the first door that the Lord opened up for me. And and so we’re, I’m just going by faith. You know, it’s like Reinhardt said, right, God doesn’t sit with sitters, but he goes with goers and he works with workers and I’m just trying to listen to that and obey every way I can and go for it. And that’s exactly what we’re doing.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (17:40):
Are you now full-time pursuing being in ministry.

Richard Hislop (17:44):
I am not full time yet. I still have my remote, my remote job. I believe going to be transitioning. The Lord spoken to me were to grow the ministry. I’m just going by faith in every single way that I can. And I believe that these is going to create the way for me to in the near future to go full time. What types of things you might eventually, what type of job do you do? I I’m actually an it security. I work on government contracts. I’ve worked for a private company, but we have a lot of different government contracts. I do. Like I was a Cisco network engineer for years. And then I do for Scouts. I do a lot of network security work on contract, just fully remote.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (18:19):
Interesting, because launching out into ministry is a huge step of faith. And of course, you’re, you’re married. You have three kids, you need to take care of your kids, take care of your family. And so sometimes it takes a few steps to get to the place where you can be launched out full-time in ministry. But, but I think while you’re doing that, you know, it’s wonderful that God has provided for you to, to take care of your family through a secular job. And in God will use you in, in the, in that secular job. You know, we are called to be a shining light in a dark world. And sometimes the secular world can be very dark. So God needs some shining lights, some evangelists in the secular realm. But I, I think that it’s commendable that you’re not waiting until everything is ready. You’re just launching out in faith right now with whatever resources you have. Has that been a big step of faith for you? What what’s that been like?

Richard Hislop (19:19):
Yeah. I mean, it’s, it’s, it’s been a step of faith, but you know, the reading Reinhart’s autobiography really helped me understand, Oh, look where he started, look what he did. And of course I know he just watched out and, and some people are called that just like, you know, they hear the voice of the Lord, Hey, leave your job. And you gotta go and obey that. But then some other people like me where the Lord hasn’t said that exactly yet, but he’s told me to go and he’s told me to go and preach. And then he opened the door and he told me that orange shall be saved. So, you know, and that I should go there. And so it, it takes the step of faith and the sacrifice with the family. But you know, when God calls us to do something, I believe he gives us the grace to do it and forget and do it successfully.

Richard Hislop (20:01):
And so that’s where I’m just doing everything. I can. One of the things that really impacted me of Daniel Kolenda sharing a testimony with Reinhard before they opened the Orlando event was when, when Reinhardt spoke to them, to him, he immediately met with Daniel and said, look, this is what the Lord has spoken to me. And, and Dana was like, well, what do we do? It’s like a Sunday. And he’s like, when the, and Reinhardt told Daniel, he said, when the Lord speaks, I want him to see me jump. And I was like, that just has so resonated with me of like, when you speak something in some way and whatever I can do, even if the next step is, read your book, even if it’s get with the Lord. And, and, and so my time is just pursuing the Lord for the answer. There’s always something that is the next step that we can do for the Lord to see us jump. And that is just what I’m trying to do here. And I’m walking through every open door that he gives and he brings, and it is that leap of faith. It is getting out on the water like Peter, but I want to be the one that walked out on the water, not the disciples, watching Peter sitting in the boat.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (21:07):
So what are some of your strategies in orange, Virginia to draw lost people to the event? How are you there? This is a very challenging time. I mean, people are still struggling with, with COVID, it’s sometimes it’s difficult to get crowds of people together, but, but how are you attracting them? How are you planning to go fishing? What what’s, what bait are you using?

Richard Hislop (21:31):
Yeah. So one of the things I’ve done is just by watching and watching, see fan and just saying, Hey, I’m going to do that. So I scheduled a pastor’s luncheon and we had a vision luncheon, you know, I’m just figuring this out. People might say, Oh, look, Richard, he’s done this before. I’ve never done this before. I’m just seeing other evangelists saying, well, you know what, I’m going to do that. And I’m going to try that and I’m going to try this. So we print it out. We, we cast the vision with local pastors, what we’re doing, they’re super excited. They’ve been praying for this for their region. So we’re finding relationships there. All of a sudden, you know, we have local churches that are going to be excited about helping us develop here. I think one of the ways is we’re doing open air crusade.

Richard Hislop (22:08):
So it’s a little bit, it’s a, it’s a, it’s not in any given church, but it’s out in the open, it’s out on a farm field. So that, that being an open air that I think that’s going to help with draw people in and ease people. But at the same time, we’re having food trucks out. So we’ve invited local community food trucks to come and say, Hey, we’re having live music. We’re going to have local food trucks come on out and join us. We’ve gotten, you know, the Porter potties, we’ve done all these things that we’re working on doing. We’re also on private property. So we didn’t have to do go through per lo city permitting and all that, you know, check light, you know, those kinds of things. So that helped. But then also we printed out all these flyers and we went out on the streets last weekend and we’re already seeing sold save from just handing out flyers and evangelizing a witnessing right there.

Richard Hislop (22:53):
So that’s the other thing is just going out with flyers and evangelizing, right? They’re letting people receive a touch from the Lord, a miracle from the Lord, because that word will also spread, not waiting for the crusade, but going out like they do in Africa, I’ve been watching. I was just like, you know what, I’m going to try all this. And we’re going to go out. And we’ve been asking local businesses and they were letting us post up and posted the flyers up in their window. They told us to just every time we come by, put the flyers on cars and that we were okay to do that. Because you know, we, we would go in and we would witness to the managers. They would get, you know, the manager and food lion got so touched by the Lord the other day that he said, Hey, you guys come, I’m donating five cases of water you to your crusade.

Richard Hislop (23:34):
You guys come whenever you want, put your flyers up to everybody. If they’re in the parking lot, just stick them on all the cars, whatever you guys need. And it’s because we went out and we shared the love of Jesus the other, and, you know, we were handing out Bibles to people that gave their lives to the Lord and then inviting them to the crusade. And so that’s one of the strategies. The other one is I’m going to try to get I’m working on now getting up a new Facebook ad that geo targets everybody within a 25 mile radius of orange, Virginia as well for the event of the Facebook event. So I’m working on doing that. So a lot of this is we’re just figuring it out as we go, we’re going by faith. We’re looking at maybe what other people are doing, and then we’re just trying it.

Evangelism Coach Daniel King (24:13):
Well, I think that’s so wonderful. Sometimes you just got to step out of the boat. You just got to get started, keep your eyes on Jesus and keep going towards Jesus. And you’ll see God do some, some amazing miracles. So I think you’re doing all the right things. And he just going and talking to people. So sometimes people find it easy to do something in Africa. And they’re wondering, how am I going to do something here in America? Well, this is how you do it. You just go find it community that has some needs, go start talking to people about Jesus. And when he talks to people about Jesus, God will open up their hearts to receive, and you will see fruit. And so unbelieving that you’re going to see a great harvest. And I believe this will be the first of many harvest that you will experience. And, and God’s just going to give you tremendous resources and creative ideas, and God will give you friendships that will help you to reach people for Jesus. And, and so, and I love your passion and your excitement for evangelism. That’s just wonderful. So let’s, let’s finish up with a word of prayer. Can you pray for this upcoming event that you have just pour out everything that, that God’s been telling you to pray for and, and let’s, let’s pray for America to be saved.

Richard Hislop (25:26):
Let’s do it. Yes, father, we just thank you so much for what you’re doing and your plan for America, Lord, that it’s not just your plan to save the nations alone. Lord, you came and you died for the whole world. You died for whoever so would believe and call upon your name would be saved. God. And thank you for your plan specifically, even for this event in orange, Virginia, and the ongoing crusades we’re even going to have on this field more God for a decade of harvest, I believe in Jesus name, God, I just pray that you would, that as people see the flyers, as they’ve been receiving and hearing about this event, that your Holy spirit would draw the community. As the pastors are announcing this event in their churches, Lord, that the people would be drawn to come out for this event. Lord, I just thank you that you’re going to draw all the, this community to this field Lord, by the power of your Holy spirit, God, so that the loss would even be drawn to come.

Richard Hislop (26:23):
They would even be drawn to come and to see and to be on this field Lord, to hear the good news of the gospel of Jesus Christ that even America would be saved. Thank you, Lord, that your desire is to save America, your desires to heal America. Your desire is to deliver America from all demonic. God, your desires to heal the sick for you are the same yesterday, today and forever. And just as we just continue on your ministry, God and obey the calling of God on our lives to preach your glorious gospel until your return. Jesus, we thank you that you’re going to draw the people. You’re going to give them eyes to see and ears to hear the truth. God, you’re going to convict the hearts of man should the truth of the gospel of Jesus Christ, to the knowledge of you, Jesus, as the only way to salvation Lord.

Richard Hislop (27:18):
And that’s your coming again to the truth of your death and your resurrection and your coming, God that the kingdom of heaven is at hand God, we just pray God that your truth would go forth in America. That we would just as Reinhardt and see fan has been seeing a blood washed Africa, God, that we are going to now in the name of Jesus, see a blood washed America in Jesus mighty name because of your gospel Lord, we’re going to see it. We’re going to go Lord. And we’re going to preach the gospel and God eyes. I pray even for this event on the 24th, just like Reinhardt said, when the gospel is preached, the gospel happens and God, we just pray. And we thank you that as the gospel is preached in orange, Virginia, the gospel is going to happen that the loss are going to be saved.

Richard Hislop (28:04):
The lost are going to be healed in Jesus’ name, the gospel. And it’s going in in the loss are going to be saved, healed, and delivered in Jesus name from all demonic. Demonically oppressed people.
