The gifts of the Holy Spirit are special abilities or capacities that God gives to believers for the purpose of building up the body of Christ and advancing the kingdom of God. The Bible mentions several gifts of the Holy Spirit, including:
- Wisdom: The gift of wisdom is the ability to understand and apply God’s Word in a way that helps others to grow in their faith.
- Knowledge: The gift of knowledge is the ability to understand spiritual truths and to discern God’s will.
- Faith: The gift of faith is the ability to trust in God and to believe in his Word, even when things are difficult.
- Healing: The gift of healing is the ability to pray for and see physical healings take place.
- Miracles: The gift of miracles is the ability to see supernatural events take place, such as the casting out of demons or the raising of the dead.
- Prophecy: The gift of prophecy is the ability to receive and communicate a message from God to others.
- Discernment: The gift of discernment is the ability to distinguish between truth and error, and to recognize the work of the Holy Spirit in the lives of others.
- Tongues: The gift of tongues is the ability to speak in a heavenly language, as a sign of the presence of the Holy Spirit.
- Interpretation of tongues: The gift of interpretation of tongues is the ability to interpret the meaning of a message spoken in tongues.
These gifts of the Holy Spirit are given to believers by the Holy Spirit, who distributes them according to his own will (1 Corinthians 12:11). They are given to believers for the purpose of building up the body of Christ and advancing the kingdom of God, and they are to be used in love and humility (1 Corinthians 12:31).
