(Mark 8:22‑26)
The man from Bethsaida was blind. Some of his friends took him to Jesus and begged the great healer to touch his eyes. Jesus, ever willing to give personal attention in response to the faith of the needy, took the man by the hand and led him outside the village.
Jesus leaned close to the man’s face and spit into his eyes. The man felt the wet saliva run down his face and he sensed the touch of hands on his eyes. He heard the gentle voice of Jesus asking, “Do you see anything?”
Surprised at the question, the man opened his eyelids and saw light for the first time in years. “I see people; they look like trees walking around,” he told Jesus. The man had not received his full sight, but even though he was only partially healed, hope welled up inside his soul. If Jesus could make him see light, Jesus could completely heal him.
Wanting to finish what He had started, Jesus again placed His hands on the man and prayed. This time when the man opened his eyes, he could see clearly. Now people looked like people and trees looked like trees. The man who had recently been blind saw the blue sky, the green grass, and the smile on the face of Jesus. His sight was completely restored, he was healed!
Healing Power Points
1.This man’s healing was gradual. It was accomplished in stages. Some people seem to think God must always heal the sick instantaneously. But sometimes miracles take time. Be assured, “…he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus” (Philippians 1:6). Once God starts a miracle, He will complete it. If you have only received a partial miracle, do not get discouraged, keep believing for the full manifestation of your healing.
2. The surprising feature of this miracle is the method Jesus used to heal the man. Can you imagine being healed by someone spitting at you? Jesus was not afraid to use unorthodox means to heal this man. This tells me that Jesus is not limited to a specific method. He will use any means possible to bring healing to your body.
