In the beginning was the Word. The Word was with God and the Word was God. Jesus, the Word of God became flesh and dwelt among us. God sent forth His Word to heal our diseases (Psalm 107:20). When the incarnate Word walked on earth, He healed sickness.
God sent His Son for a season, but He left His written word for all eternity. Treat the word of God with the same respect you would show Jesus if He walked into your room. The word has the same power to heal today as Jesus had when he was physically present.
Originally the world was created at God’s spoken command. “Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear” (Hebrews 11:3 KJV). If the word of God can create the mighty galaxies, then it can recreate the cells in our bodies.
The word of God brings healing. Wise King Solomon says the words of God “…are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh” (Proverbs 4:22 KJV). The psalmist sings “…Your word has given me life” (Psalm 119:50 NKJV).
The word of God is both a defensive and an offensive weapon. In Ephesians 6, we discover that faith is like a shield that is capable of quenching every fiery arrow of the evil one. Well, where does faith come from? Faith comes from hearing God’s word. As soon you hear the word of God, it becomes a defensive shield that protects you from the attacks of Satan.
The word of God is also called the Sword of the Spirit (Ephesians 6:17). The Christian who speaks God’s word with boldness is like the ancient hero who wielded his sword in great arcs against his enemy. The word is a sharp and effective weapon. When you speak God’s word it destroys the works of Satan.
The word is living and powerful. God personally guarantees His word. Every word ever spoken by God must come true. All the promises of God are “yes” and “Amen.” When God speaks it, it is so.
God’s word is settled for all of eternity in heaven (Psalm 119:89), and He carefully watches to see that His word is fulfilled (Jeremiah 1:12). The word is eternal, it is unchanging, it is the will of God. “The word of the Lord stands forever” (1 Peter 1:25), it will never pass away (Matthew 24:35).
The good news in God’s word does not change like the bad news in your daily newspaper. Every day brings a new headline in the news, but God’s word stands the test of time: unchanging, solid, and immovable. God’s word is more solid than a doctor’s report concerning your health. The report of a doctor can change, but God’s word will never be altered.
One word from God will change your life forever
You are only one verse away from receiving your healing. If you will grab hold of one of God’s promises and memorize it, confess it, and claim it as your own, you can be healed.
Let me share a story that illustrates the power of one word. One evening Jesus told His disciples to get in a boat and to cross to the other side of the sea. Later, when Jesus wanted to rejoin them, He walked on the water to their boat. The disciples were scared and wondered if a ghost was approaching them. Knowing their fear, Jesus cried out to them, “Be of good cheer! It is I; do not be afraid.”
Peter, ever one to take action, called back, “Lord, if it is you, command me to come out on the water.” Jesus replied with one simple word, “Come.” Immediately, Peter hopped out of the boat and walked toward Jesus.
Any one of the disciples could have walked on the water. Jesus did not say, “Peter, come” He simply said, “Come.” All the disciples could have jumped out of the boat and played a game of football on the water just on the basis of that one word. In sermons we often criticize Peter for sinking after taking his eyes off Jesus, but we need to give him a break; he was the only disciple with the guts to step out on the water. At least he had the faith to give walking on the water a try, the other disciples just stayed in the comfortable boat as spectators.
On the basis of one word from Jesus, Peter defied the laws of gravity. Because of faith in one word, Peter stepped out of the boat and into the pages of the Bible. All you need is faith in one word from God to receive your complete healing.
